i guy i train with is an amature and he has a might coming up in three weeks and he needs to drop three kgs. as you know, unlike the pros, the amatures have the weigh on an hour before the fight so he is a little concerned because he wont have the 24 hours to rehidrate so that he will just get tired.
any advice i can give him? what about diet?

3kg in 3 weeks is more than feasible. Diet is the way to go - if he adjusts his diet he should be able to do it without dehydrating.

ok but what kind of foods should he eat and what shouldnt he eat? (escept the obvious ones, like junk food)

(escept the obvious ones, like junk food)A little late in the game for him to be worrying about nutrition. :-( I dont know, all these posts about cutting weight at the last minute and the obscene amount to cut really makes me wonder.

he only got told about the fight and its 3 weeks, its not like its a week or a number of daysYes but one should always train and eat as if the fight was tommorow. I wake up at my fighting weight because i dont want to slack in ANY department when it comes to combat sports. Your life and career are huge gambles one makes when stepping into that ring/octagon with poor last minute preparations.

Somatomax and L-Carnitine before bed, ensure he gets 9 hours of rest every night.

A CLA tablet with every meal on top of only eating heavy carb foods for breakfast and less for lunch.. Fish oils should be his fat supply.

Eat oatmeal only in the morning..

Eat lean meats and negative calorie foods the rest of the day.. No outright carb supplies..

Example of a lunch.. Lean meats of his choice (no lunch meat or cold cuts), then he could eat raw broccoli, celery, carrots, cooked beats, lettuce, apples to his content. Only a cup of carbs, like a cup or less of brown rice for lunch. No sugars.. You want salad dressing? Use fruit juice.

Dinner would be similar, dont eat after 6-7 pm, but NO CARBS. Eat small snacks inbetween meals, like a single apple or single 100 calorie protein shake that is low in carbs..

This will make you drop weight like crazy, only thing to worry about is energy levels for training.

absolute bollocks, if you do this, how do ever expect to peak?

you can only peak your fighter three, four times tops per season, it takes a great deal of skill and planning to get these peaks right so he is on the top of his game on the toughest bouts.
three kilos is fuck all to shift in three weeks all part of the peaking process...

With school, work, and family life it would be next to impossible to peak right before the fight. It is an opiniion based on experience and a study i have recently read on the subject and why it worked so well for the former communist countries athletes but cannot be applied for us, in our daily rat race lifes.
