Montana was pretty good at Cruiserweight and he had two decent wins at heavyweight vs China Smith but he shouldn't give Tua much trouble.

A rejuvenated David Tua will step back into the boxing ring next month primed by a six week training camp and the knowledge that his fan base is showing no signs of abandoning him.

Tua has been inactive on the heavyweight circuit since his win against Robert Hawkins in New York in February.

He has spent all that time in Auckland reconnecting with his family and working with a number of local charities.

He's also reconnected with his public at the recent Monty Betham and Shane Cameron fights and was humbled by the reception he received.

"It was very humbling, feeling the love in the rooms for me," Tua said last night.

"It's the greatest feeling to get back into the ring after some inactivity and know there are a lot of people who are still supporting me and wanting me to have another shot at the title.

"The support of the people means a lot more now than it ever has before."

Tua is focused on his August 18 date in Salt Lake City with Mexican heavyweight Saul Montana.

The 36-year-old bruiser has carved out a record of 48 wins and 14 loses and significantly, he won his last outing in December with a first-round knock out against fellow Mexican Mario Maciel.

Tua will go into camp with his Arizona-based trainer Roger Bloodworth this week.

And now that he has his weight firmly under control - he weighed in at 109kg against Hawkins - the camp will be about training to fight rather than training to lose weight.

"It's taken 34 years but I finally understand what it takes to get the best out of my body. And I feel like I am in the best shape of my life.

"So I feel confident. There's never an easy road back after five months out of the ring but I'm excited about taking care of this fight and then getting a title shot sometime soon."

Tua isn't setting a time limit on his first shot at a title since his loss to Lennox Lewis in 2000.

"It could take three fights or it could take six before I'm ready," he said.

"It's about the mind, the heart, the soul and the physical being. When I have the feeling and I know I'm ready we'll go for it."

Significantly, Tua's bout against Montana is the first since his 2005 comeback to screen live in the US.

Pay-per-view giants On Demand have picked up the rights to the Salt Lake City event.

"There a lot of buzz around about David," his promoter Cedric Kushner said from New York.

"Since his comeback he's gone the distance in three of his five fights so we know he can go rounds. He's strong, he's fit and he has his confidence back.

"It's only a matter of time before he gets his second shot at a world title."

Tua needs to blow montana out ASAP

He's done his rounds against Hawkins, Wheeler and Salif during his comeback now he needs to make the TV networks, the public and fight fans stand up and take notice.

He has to blow Montana out inside of 4 ideally, i hear he has another date in October hopefully against a guy a level above Montana and he needs to blow him out also. So he goes into a "Big" fight off two impressive KO wins for his own confidence and that of the TV netowkrs and to get fight fans interested in him again!!

Agreed. I am done paying attention to what Tua does, unless he makes some noise against serious opponents. Which I doubt will happen.

As for Montana hes tough he has a respectable record of 48-14-0

He's comming off a KO1 win over Mario Maciel 11-11-0 for the Mexican Heavyweight Title.

Montana has won the Mexican Light-Heavyweight title, WBC Mundo Hispano Cruiserweight Title, IBA Cruiserweight Title, NABA Cruiserweight Title, NBA Heavyweight Title, WBC Inter-Continental Heavyweight Title, so you know he can fight a bit.

He's also foght for the Cruiserweight World title a couple of times.

He wont have fought in 8 months by the time him and Tua get it on, so he may be rusty himself! Seems they are trying to keep Tua in with smaller guys Montant is only 5'11, which is probably a good idea given Tuas problems with tall guys. He'd be best suited chasing the shorter heavyweight champs like Ibragimov and Chagaev.

That's pretty much it. Montana is a crafty veteran who was a solid Cruiser back in the 90s but he's wayyyyyyyyy past it. Even an old Tua should stop Montana quickly these days.

Montana knocked out bahktov and was robbed against Sam, he could be the best comeback opponent for Tua so far. I only hope Tua comes in under 240 because if he does hes alright.

I think Montana is too old at this point and probably could not have hurt Tua even in his prime. Montana may be able to box and survive a little. But Tua should take him out inside the distance.

Montana's prime would have been Tua's prime and yes Tua would have destroyed him. James Toney absolutely anesthitized Montana with a left hook at heavyweight.

Montana fought a great fight at Cruiser against Kenny Keene. Worth a look if you can find it.

Montana was in a few good scraps...like the Bakhtov fight and his first fight with China Smith.

Im giving Tua one more shot as a fan.............he needs to fight at least 2 more fights before the end of the year after this Montana fight. If he waits another 6/8 months before his next fight im done!!!
