Donaire definitly pulled off an upset. That fight between Arce-Darchinyan has really taken another hit to its marketability. I'd still like to see it. I also like Simms big against Alcine. I think he has too much speed for Alcine.

A minute into the round, and there have been about 30 punches thrown and none landed. Simms staying on the outside, occasionally lunging in for body work. Alcine throws some hooks but hasn't touched Simms cleanly through the first 2 minutes of the round. Ref gives a headbutt warning, probably prematurely. Simms looks good defensively, but needs to throw punches occasionally. Ref also warns Alcine about stepping on Simms' foot. Simms takes another slow round, 20-18.

Simms landing his left almost at will now, although infrequently. Alcine throws a nice combo and starts to find his jab a bit, but Simms quickly takes back control of the round. Alcine isn't taking advantage of his height, playing right into Simms' sweet spot. Alcine still couldn't get anything going, and Simms landed some decent shots. 30-27 Simms.

Alcine starting to find his jab, and Simms starting to look wild with his lunges in. Every time they get in close, it turns into a wrestling match, with both guys trying to get the other guy's neck. Neither guy really throwing more than a punch at a time. The ref seems to be involved constantly. Both fighters hitting gloves and elbows much more than they're hitting the other fighter. Last 30 seconds, things start to pick up finally. Alcine was probably more effective that round, Simms up 39-37.

Simms lands a couple of decent combos early. The crowd starts chanting USA. Simms finally throwing more than one punch when he comes in. Alcine still having trouble hitting anything but Simms' gloves. There's no punchtracker, but I'd be surprised if Alcine's landed more than 15% of his punches so far. Both sides trying to control the other with the jab, Simms landing more frequently despite the height and reach disadvantage.

Simms looks good generally, but the fight is shades of Foreman/Thompson. Simms takes the round in probably the widest round yet, 49-46 Simms.

Alcine gets deducted a point for hitting on the break (did they just STOP giving warnings for this???)...Simms just out thinking and out boxing him. Alcine lands some nice body shots, Simms answers with a great counter. Alcine goes on the offensive, but the best punch was a counter landed by Travis again.

Ref deducts a point from Alcine for hitting on the break. IMO, that deduction was thoroughly unwarranted, as Simms has been doing the same thing all night, but it probably won't make a difference in the outcome. Suddenly, this fight starts to look like Hatton Castillo, with both guys working to the body inside. Alcine showing urgency now, being much more aggressive than he's been all fight. Ref threatens a deduction for Simms for clinching. Alcine took the round with a flurry in the middle, 58-55 Simms.

Back to the Thomson/Foreman throw three punches and grab mode again. The ref hasn't kept his promise about the deduction to Simms, maybe if he did it would open up the fight some. Alcine lands a decent left hook to the face, Simms comes back with a decent combo on the outside. Alcine's finally figured out how to punch behind Simms' defense, but Simms' counters are generally more effective than the punches being thrown by Alcine. Both fighters land a couple of good shots on the inside. Alcine still being the aggressor. Most active round of the fight so far. Simms landed the hardest shots in the round, but I could see this one going either way. 68-64 Simms.

Alcine back to throwing lots of jabs and missing with all of them. Finally he comes in and lands some nice hooks to the body. Simms looks a bit lethargic. Simms finally starts to land some nice left uppercuts up the middle. Alcine trying to stay active, coming in and working to the body. Neither fighter looked great, but Alcine looked less bad. I've lost track of my damn scoring, so I'll stop trying :-)
