Alex Arthur has got his dream fight against Joan Guzman for the WBO World Super-Featherweight title.

A date and venue for the fight will be announced shortly, but promoter Frank ****** has secured home advantage for Scot Arthur.
With Enzo Maccarinelli's explosive cruiserweight unification showdown against David Haye on March 8 and Joe Calzaghe's long awaited light-heavyweight scrap against Bernard Hopkins on April 19, ****** is delighted to add Arthur to the super-fight roster.

He said: "This years is looking to be one of the best ever for British boxing in terms of big fights. With Maccarinelli v Haye and Calzaghe v Hopkins in the coming months and now Arthur v Guzman, it is a boxing fan's dream.

"I have done the job of getting Alex the fight on home turf, now it is down to him to do the business in the ring - which I'm sure he will do. It's a big assignment but Alex is a class operator and will be thoroughly prepared on the night."

Edinburgh hot-shot Arthur, who holds the Interim title, has been gunning for a showdown against Guzman.
The hammer-fisted Dominican Republican is regarded as one of the premier fighters in the 130lb division, and Arthur is delighted the fight will be in Scotland.

Arthur said: "Frank has done a fantastic job winning the purse bids and securing home advantage for me in this mega-fight against Guzman. With my pals Enzo and Joe involved in massive fights, it's great to join them with a big fight of my own. I'm really, really, excited by the challenge in front of me. It's a chance to prove what I have always believed - that I belong in world-class company and will be world champion. It will be a hard task but I'm confident of winning and bringing another world title belt to Great Britain."

I wonder if Guzman will actually sign the contract for this fight now Arthur has secured home advantage.

26th April rumoured to be the date if it goes ahead.

Great news for AAA! He needs this fight, win or lose. He needs to test himself against a truly outstanding p4p fighter if he is to find out what he is really made of. It's time! Good luck!:happy

****** delivers yet again.

AA is way out of his depth on this level but home advantage will help.

Guzman TKO 10

Absloutley no chance.

This wouldn't even sell 10,000 tickets.

Happy for Arthur though, hopefully he can prove he's world class. Although, I think he'll definitely of bitten off more than he can chew with facing Guzman.

Arthur ain't a cash cow or at the very end of his career or threatening to leave him unless he gets a big fight - so yes in this respect '****** delivers again'.

Say what you like, he put a foot wrong recently.

He could have easily lost the purse bids if he chose, he obviosuly thinks AA had potential money wise.

It'd be a shame if the Scots don't come to support a very good home fighter like AAA against an excellent fighter like Guzman in big numbers...you don't get many fights like this in Scotland. AAA will need all the crowd support he can get. If I lived in Scotland, I'd definitely go to see this fight. :good

Assuming Guzman comes over for the fight, I would see this as well if I lived in Scotland. Guzman will school AAA like JC did to Lacy. It will be a spectacle and I urge all UK boxing fans to see poetry in action.

Guzman will come if he has to...he doesn't have that many options, to be honest. He will be very motivated to impress because he is desperate for the Pacquiao v. JMM winner. It will be a beautiful fight.

Pac has been dodging Joan for ages. JMM too...:think ...who knows...maybe if JMM wins it, he'll give Joan a shot this time around...:think ...we, the fans, have demanded it for a long time!

I hear the Braehead arena calling again, it's been a while the only place I've been where you don't get a bad seat. Hope it's no later than April, take my hat off to ****** he's pulling them out the bag just now.

Hows it goin Ofoq.
There was a time when I would have thought the same thing, but I firmly believe Guzman loves his title way too much to give it up without a fight. Guzman loves that belt, make no mistake & I dont think a trip to Scotland or wherever will faze this guy. Only the weightmaking for both guys IMO could be the stumbling block.
& the balls in Arthurs court on this one, cos if Guzman pulls out, Alex gets that title. & trust me Sucka, I did my homework on Guzman, & when I say he loves his WBO belt, he LOVES his WBO belt:deal

going good Dunky ta, yourself? I'm just back from addressing a Hatton thread on the general forum, putting some of these newbies right.

I hope you're right and it happens. I may handpick that week as a holiday back home so can get to the fight. Edinburgh of Glasgow I don't really care...London would be a bummer though.

Im doing well my good man! Im all the happier for this fight being made, but like yourself if the fight is made for London, I wont be going, thats for sure.
Btw, this Guzman interview was from a few weeks back, but in this interview he was hardly in the mood to give up his belt-

Exclusive Boxing Latest Guzman's Amazing Rant As Title Fight Bust-Up Rages On
JOAN GUZMAN last night branded fight Scot Alex Arthur "No Heart".
The unbeaten WBO super-featherweight champion has revealed that his favourite movie is Braveheart, in which Mel Gibson recreates the heroic life and times of Sir William Wallace.
But Guzman doesn't think the WBO interim champion is cut from the same cloth as the red-blooded Wallace or he'd jump at the chance of a showdown.
The 31-year-old said: "I love that movie and I love how Gibson's character was afraid of no man and no army.
"I must have seen Braveheart about 20 times. What a willing and courageous guy Wallace was.
"But Wallace and Arthur are different for sure. One guy was Braveheart and the other is No Heart."
Guzman has finally broken his silence on the possibility of a cross-Atlantic battle between the two top men in the division.
He claims he would come to Scotland to take on the Edinburgh ace in his own backyard.
But Guzman reckons Arthur and Frank ****** have gone quiet on the idea even though the British promoter insists he wants the fight to go ahead.
The man from the Dominican Republic said: "For a long time I have been hearing and reading all this b******* about how this Alex Arthur is going to kick my ass, take my title, blah, blah, blah.
"Now I am begging the WBO to set an immediate purse bid and call this joker's bluff.
"My manager and co - promoters Sycuan and Golden Boy have been trying in vain to make this fight happen but ****** does not seem interested in seeing his boy get destroyed.
"I even authorised my manager and promoters to make the fight in the backyard of No Heart. I agreed to go to Scotland to fight this guy and now we hear nothing but silence."
Guzman's manager Jose Nunez set ****** a weekend deadline to make a decision or Arthur would never get the chance to fight the champion.
He said: "It's like Alex Arthur has disappeared off the face of the earth. Mr ****** has been pretty much silent.
"Now that he and Golden Boy are almost done making Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe they can make this fight happen along with Sycuan. But I think my fighter is right in saying that No Heart is not looking for a fight.
"I hear that ****** wouldn't put Arthur in with Joan right now because of his last performance.
"We spoke to the WBO about having an immediate purse bid and they said they couldn't get in touch with ******.
"I want an immediate purse bid but he is not communicating with the WBO.
"I am constantly putting pressure on the WBO and I really want this fight.
------------------------

As I say, that interview was from around two weeks ago. Now that ****** has won the purse bids & Alex is happy that the fight is on, let battle commence & hopefully Athur make Guzman pay for his arrogant comments.
The quicker Alex breaks Guzman in half, the better. If only to shut up the annoying bullshitter of a manger of his, Nunez.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. ****** will want this one in the O2 Arena or perhaps in the Milenium Stadium, Cardiff.

Im not too worried Kerrminator my old buddy. I think ****** knows he will have to set this fight in an intimidating atmosphere to freak Guzman out. ****** is no fool, he knows if Arthur wins this fight, its massive. So I am hopeful ****** will make life as hard as possible for Guzman, & thats where the Braehead arena comes in. That place is a fuckin bearpit:lol:

Sad thing is though, if it was in London it would be like Arthur was fighting away from home. Most fans who turned up who werent Arthur fans would be cheering on Guzman. in London, Guzman would be the 'home' fighter I fear.

Im fine TD, all the better from hearing from your good self:good

Its a tough fight, make no mistake. However, Guzman has weaknesses Arthurs strengths can exploit, of that I am sure! I know people have issues with Arthur up in Scotland, but like the english with Ricky Hatton I hope our whole country puts that all behind them, & rallies around our boy.
If Alex beats Guzman, hes right up there with Buchanan & Watt IMO, thats how big this fight is for Arthur & Scotland.
In fact, I have studied Guzman for so long I think I should be in Arthurs corner for this fight!:D I know the ultimate gameplan to beat Guzman. I just hope if Alex is reading, he gets in touch!

Braehead would be superb :)

I hope Arthur does the business on Guzman and if Joan underestimates the Edinburgh man he could pay the ultimate price.

I'd much rather see our fighters take on the best even if it means losing from time to time instead of fighting a bunch of handpicked guys.

I get the feeling ****** is considering retiring from the promoting game (probably after Khan's career) as he is putting on too many good fights which is very out of character for him lol

Im glad Alex Arthur is FINALLY going to fight a truly world class fighter, Joan Guzman is without a doubt one of the best fighters in the world, he is a brilliant boxer and if he had the right mentality to go with that talent he would be sitting in the top 5 of the p4p lists, Manny Pac did not want Guzman at all and theres only Juan Manuel Marquez who could beat Guzman because for me Marquez is the finest technician in boxing .. Im trying to work out how Arthur can win this fight but unless Guzman is injured or takes him lightly then i'd say its nearly impossible, this would be one of the biggest shocks in british boxing history right up there with Honeyghan v Curry .. Guzman is gonna stop him in 9 after a savage boxing masterclass, this is like Audley Harrison stepping in with a late 90s Lennoz Lewis, the gulf in class is huge, so lets cut out the patriotic shit guys, if you know your boxing you know Arthur is gonna be taken apart .. Who has Arthur beaten for you guys to give him any chance against Guzman ?? Dunky your dreamin !!

Pretty much every fight in boxing has an underdog and/or a favourite and this is no different. Yes, Arthur is up against it and yes, he is the underdog but he is gonna fight regardless and that imo show the hunger that is required to become a champion.

Perhaps you would give a boxer more praise if he chose to fight handpicked bums :?

Arthur has went through the ranks the old fashioned way and has earned his shot but I suppose there will always be people who berate these kind of efforts from the comfort of their sofa

jc

I dont think Arthur has done anymore than most world title challengers, he was interim champion anyway, the fight or the world title was going to come eventually.

He'll get battered.
