I think Oscar De La Hoya is going about his farewell year all wrong. I am a little pissed with him at the moment, ever since he started the rumors about a possible fight with Hatton. I still hope him the best, having loved the fights he has given us before. However I think De La Hoya should have played it out like this.

Golden boy vs. Margarito (great action packed event facing a dangerous puncher, and the fight would have given a chance for Oscar to score a ko victory perhaps or get ko'd)

Golden boy vs Cotto (presuming Cotto fought Mayweather and came out on top. Don't think he would but a fight between Cotto and DLH would be more action packed and amazing than a fight with Floyd. Also DLH would probably score a TKO or at least decision, but there is the risk of getting overwhelmed by the Cotto juggernaught. This risk is why I used to love the old Oscar fights).

Golden Boy for January of next year against Tito Trinidad (this one would be for the fans of both camps, a long awaited fight as looked forward to since the Leonard/Hearns rematch. If Oscar lost he would be forgiven as he gave us something to remember him by. If he won, Mille would give him best blow job ever ((as she would be torn with tension between love for him and his besting two puerto ricans that year)).

Margarito in Mexico's Aztec stadium
Cotto in Shea Stadium
Tito in Dodger Stadium
All on network TV with Howard Cosell brought back from the dead to be the announcer.

A man can dream.

A tune up, and to give Cotto time to fight PBF. "Best for boxing" right? This is just dream stuff, I know.

I don't think that Oscar has anything left to prove, or owes the fans anything. He has given us mega-fight after mega-fight throughout his entire career. I wouldn't care if he fought Campas 10 times in 10 months.

Oscar would NOT get a TKO against Cotto! No freaking way.

Haha, OK then. Dream on.

Cotto would slaughter Oscar, IMO.

Well, you are basing this on Mosley fight. Mosley had absolutely no defence when he fought Cotto. If I threw a beer bottle in my living room where I was watching the fight it would have somehow hit Mosley. I am not saying DLH would TKO Cotto but would have the chance. Just as Cotto would have the chance against DLH. 50/50. The difference between them, and the difference between DLH and Mosley, is that DLH has the best instincts as a finisher. When he hurts you with a punch he moves in for the kill quicker than Mosley does. This has always been DLH's strength. I saw Mosley hurt Cotto several times and backed off or stop punching when he should have gone in for the kill. Even an old Oscar doesn't make this split second mistake.

DLH by TKO round 11 imo

However UD likely as well

Of course you wouldn't Window. You're an Oscarsexual. I would think he does owe his fans. They have certainly stood by him throughout his career even during some very curious instances to say the least. The rape charges from underage girls, the bizarre transvestite photos of the golden Fishnet, the questionable finish of the hopkins fight, the cowardly performance he put on against Trinidad making every true Mexican alive ashamed of their heritage that night as Oscar portrayed a Mexican running away from a fight, his pathetic speech in the ring following a loss about investigating the corruption in boxing yet their was no speech in the ring after the Sturm fight. Oh yeah window, I do think he owes his fans. They put him where he is today. Saying he doesn't owe his fans anything are the words of a nuthugger.

Oscar does owe his fans, just like Tito. I'm talking about real fans. Not the "Oscar does good for the community" or "Tito fights for Puerto Rico."

There fans are willing to overlook the losses, neither guy is prime anymore. Both camps are owed a rematch as a final fight for both fighters.
