View Full Version : If Joe looks good beating up Bhops, and Dawson beats up Johnson and Diaconu...

...Joe HAS to fight Dawson. :deal
If Joe still has the kind of speed and stamina he had against Mikkel, and Dawson proves his credentials and chin against Johnson and Diaconu, if Joe wants to fight another fight in the USA and doesn't want a fare-well party against Woods, he has to fight Dawson.
He needs to forget about the "0" and about risk/reward and about money and about resume trophee wins against stuffed have-been NAMES and go out on a bang against Chad Dawson - a fighter who under this scenario will have proved his elite skills, tactical adaptability to all kinds of style, including pressure, and a very good chin.
This would be the legacy fight for Joe, and the fight that hard-core fans will really want in exchange for their loyalty to Joe through all those lean years when detractors were having a field day, pointing at Joe's sometimes less than stellar opposition. This is the fight to say to the long-term supporters: "Thank you for believing I'm a great Champion from the beginning and throughout the lean years!"
Yeah, by all means fight Pavlik first, while Dawson fights Diaconu...but only fight Pavlik if you are going to fight Dawson too, Joe!:good

Joe has stated that he's only looking at 2 more fight before retiring.
He's fighting B-Hop and he would like to fight Taylor - if Taylor wins.
It doesn't look like he's going to stay a Light Heavyweight. He's just looking for 2 big fights before leaving the game.

I don't think he wants Taylor. He wants Pavlik to beat him again because then, it's certain that Taylor, the man who ducked Calzaghe in the past, wasn't that great in the first place.
Personally, I think if Palik wants it, Joe will take Pavlik and retire, without fighting Dawson. That would be OK...but I wouldn't be sarisfied, personally. On the other hand, I would be fully satisfied if he fights Dawson, after Bhops, and retires.

Taylor never ducked Calzaghe!
That fight was talked about - but Calzaghe made it known that he didn't think that Taylor was ready. He said he saw a lot of flaws in Taylor and that he thought JT need a couple more fights before making it happen. Then Taylor lost.
It's a fight Joe is more interested in - I think because of name recongiziton.

As far as I rememeber, before the Kessler fight was made, Joe wanted to fight Taylor or Hopkins, but they both said NO. Taylor thought Joe was not enough of a draw and not worthy of a shot at him, if I remember right.

If Dawson and crew don't want it...people will think he's wet. And they'd be right, too!
Dawson would be experienced enough to have a good shot at a 36 year-old Calzaghe.

If Calzaghe beats Hopkins, it is very probable that he fights Roy Jones.

Yeah...I agree that is quite likely!
That would be disgusting, as long as Joe still has speed and stamina against Hopkins...:-(

Dawson has to defend his WBC belt agains the winner of Diaconu v. Henry or Branco by the end of July, at the latest, f he wants to keep the WBC belt. He is fighting Johnson on the 12th of April. Would he have time to fit in Woods in the meantime? :think

Yeah right, a chance against Joe fucking Calzaghe?
You're talking about Mr. Diamond earing, fur wearing Chad Dawson?:yep

Stop discrediting Joe, he already said clear in an interview 'I have no interest in fighting shot opponents, like Roy Jones is now'.
He said he wanted Pavlik or another prime fighter after Hopkins.

Of course he will. Jones will travel to his backyard and HBO will make it a PPV show happily.
Jones went to the UK a day or two after the Tito fight. I'd say that there's a good chance that this fight is already made. Only Calzaghe have to defeat the biggest name of his career before they sign it.

True. Fair enough. Only reason I thought he might do it is because Joe said he thinks he might fight another fight in the USA after Bhops...so I thought it must be RJJ... I'll apologise to Joe! :good
Sorry, Joe!:good

No, he likely just doesn't want a horseshoe, like Pavlik. Being young and having a horseshoe = limited attention from the female element.
A totally bald head on some people is workable, or even good. Diaconu made the right choice.
Dawson is a fur wearing, diamond earing poseur outside of his fabulous ring performances. This image issue, show's insecurity.

Diaconu has been married for over 5 years now...has a very hot, beautiful wife, too! I think Diaconu might be a skinhead...:yep ...and skinheads don't like funny types who wear fur...who knows...maybe Diaconu took Mayweather Snr. seriously when he lashed at Dawson and called him mentally weak ...:think

Dawson has to prove himself before even earning a shot against Calzaghe. Right now he is somewhat unproven despite big wins over Harding and Adamek. Dawson has to let Calzaghe know that he's the real deal and legit, he can do that by beating Glen Johnson this coming April, and beating your man Diaconu, in which he will do. As of right now, I doubt Dawson is even in Calzaghe's radar.

Like most said, if Calzaghe beats Hopkins, it's almost guaranteed that RJJ will travel to England to fight Calzaghe next. And i will happily pay $60 for that one.

Even thought Joe has stated he has no interest in RJJ, I think there's a good chance money will talk.
Pavlik might want to defend his middleweight belt if he beats Taylor, rake up some cash against guys like Duddy.
If Taylor wins, that fight is a possibility.

I remember is Frank ****** chasing Jermain Taylor after the Manfredo fight and making a big offer for him to fight Joe in the UK.
In fact, in the post-fight ringside interview, Calzaghe mentioned Taylor first and foremost.
I don't think Taylor wanted to fight abroad so that was it - it wasn't a case of ducking Joe, just that he preferred to fight in the States, which is fair and I don't criticise him for that.

JT is too stupid to know what ducking a fighter is. He takes on all comers. Maybe a little too simple minded for his own good. He should've taken a tune up fight before fighting Pavlik IMO to boost his confidence.

Being lazy here, cause I have seen a lot of Joe's fight and cause easilly do a bit of research too, but how has Joe generally gone against Southpaws in the past? And what about tall fighters? And of course, tall southpaws (if he's ever fought one)?
I think Calzaghe will be gone by the time this fight will come around.

Too many things need to fall in place for Calzaghe to fight Dawson and there isn't enough time. Calzaghe will most likely fight once more after Hopkins, preferably, from his point of view, against Pavlik. I don't think he'll fight Jones because the latter is too faded; if Calzaghe fades considerably against Hopkins, compared to Kessler, he will most likely retire, instead of carrying on for the sake of it.

I'd rather see Calzaghe fight Pavlik it would a more exciting fight 2 watch
