If he can absorb as much punishment as Mosley he might have a chance.

He has the same chance of winning this fight against Cotto as I do.

^If you're Paulie Malignaggi that statement is true.

Look at the beating he absorbed in his draw with Jesse Feliciano on Friday Night Fights in 06.
Now imagine that guy Vs Cotto...it's not pretty is it?

you never know shane_erich it can happen. we all know cotto gone win but this is boxing any man with 2 hands can win.it might be a fluke like Montell Griffin and roy jones (even though roy got dq).then 4 or 5 months later cotto gets the rematch and just outclass him but it could happen.i aint counting the man gomez out u just never know.i hope he shine and give cotto a good fight like mosley did. gomez got good skills i dont know how they compare to someone like cotto yet but im going with underdog.

I don't think he has the firepower to keep off a monster like Cotto for 12, sorry...but anything can happen

going with the analogy u r going with, i would have to say that Floyd is New England, and Cotto is the New York Giant. #1 agaisnt #2, but everyone expects #1 to school #2

I don't think Gomez wins this one, but he can sure pull a Malignaggi and go the full 12 rounds.

Alfonso is a suprisingly good fighter, well trained and smart. He even managed to go up to 168 on the contender and beat Manfredo and Jesse Brinkley, who is quite a hard puncher. I like Alfonso, he's humble and well spoken. But even still I believe Cotto will have him eating through a straw after this fight. Cotto is a bull and as suseptable as he is Alfonso has none of the skills needed to beat Cotto. Although keep in mind we've seen Cotto hurt by some weaker punchers.

well said, except for Cotto having him eating through straws by nights end. Gomez is a very courageous fighter who won't quit so it's a possibilty he takes a heavy beating, but I hope that doesn't happen. Gomez is a very likeable guy and smart little boxer. Hopefully he puts up a good fight and doesn't get beat up too bad.To be fair mate Gomez has plenty of intelligence, skill, and power to trouble Cotto....you may remember Cotto being "stunned" by the all powerful Malignoggi(yes I use the Foreman pronunciation) late in their fight...Which inspires the question Would Gomez be the hardest hitting opponent in some time for Cotto??

people are on to Gomez' sneaky upset status no doubt after watching his ballsy performences on the contender against Manfredo. Then pounding Gatti, regardless of how shot Gat was if Gomez was bum he would've gone life and death with Gatti.
Then I see him against a supposed ordinary Feliciano and Gomez doesnt look impressive at all, then again mind you the same Feliciano who gave Cintron fits so you wonder......Cotto should be on to this kid and not let him pull a Rocky, Hey!! Gomez has nothing to lose in this one. I expect him to overachieve in this bout he seems to have that type makeup.....
But will he seriously put Cotto in Danger? o one should ever take anyone for granted in a fight.....I wonder how this will go down... Cotto should outclass and beat this kid but, he better be ready the first few rounds and not let the kid get brave or confident or he will have some problems.

It doesnt matter what anybody thinks or says.
Gomez is coming in well prepared and expects to win.
Cotto will need his "A" game -- for sure.
That'd be cool if it happened. But I dont see Gomez doing it.
Cotto should walk through Gomez with ease.

it's interesting that the same guy who is regularly mentioned as being the guy to beat pbf is now being talked about as losing to gomez...

Cotto by KO inside 2 rounds. Anything other than 2 rounds would be an upset.

a good point. what was that quote about how there are 2 kinds of people: those who have something to say, but don't know how to say it, and those who have nothing to say, and won't stop saying it?

In all honesty i don't think gomez is gonna win bc of the lack experience he has going against someone like cotto. Now if this fight happen 2 or 3 years from now people would give him a better chance of winning. but i don't give a fu&k i'm going with the underdog. the dude been the underdog his whole career and pull off some upsets.not none this big but will see what he does come april. But the real funny thing is if he some how find God in that ring an win or make it a good fight, i dont wont to hear no one saying he will beat PBF. you support your man through the good times, you support him through the bad times
he will have to pull a buster douglas.

this would be a bigger upset than tyson/douglas. gomez has no business fighting cotto
