We have to wait a long time until the fight. In the meantime, I propose we entertain ourselves with the help of some poetry pictorials. Odes - also very welcome!

Here's my first entry:

[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

It's Hammer-time in Cardiff!

His mind disturbed by labyrinthine schemes,
The goatish devil looks aghast,
Whilst dark and unbelievably bad dreams,
Unremittingly now flutter past:

Seeing his stallion stretched tight upon the rack,
And bullied cruelly ever futher back
Against the seething, flamings cords,
Leaves the corruptor, frankly, without words...

His ride, the proud old warhorse, now,
Is clearly cast in statuesque inaction!...
There is no ****** now for him to hide,
To find some respite, pause or satisfaction!

Under the rough chastisment of the Viking
The brittle hands of the smitten tired King
Are now in supplication raised,
And, in the Cardiff moonlight, appear brazed
And from too much slap and tickle - pink!

Alas! The sea and waves may not be ordered back,
What's aged and dusted must finally receive the sack!
Therefore acclaim the new Champion of the Ring!
The King is dead! Long live the Viking!

Here's something a little more low brow I wrote in tribute to the fight, also keep in mind this has no particular form or structure.

Danish Boxing Day

After the wrangling and haggling it was set for November,
Kessler, Calzaghe a fight to remember.
the moment draws closer, until it's finally upon us.
No more wondering or waiting,
an answer's the onus.

The Dane prepares in his corner, the atmosphere thick,
as Deram gives the final polish to Mikkels' dick.
As the bell for the first round sounds in Kesslers' head,
it still seems to be ringing as reindeer fly across the window,
while he stirs in a hospital bed.

"Why is it Christmas? Did I win the fight?!"
"Will I be showered with gifts this Danes Christmas night?"
Footsteps sound, he thinks, "Jolly St Nick has brought me a gift in his sack!"
He takes the gift, but Doctor Blocky flexes his abs and takes his thermometer back,
"Did I win? Is my fellow Dane proud? Can I shout of my victory, say it aloud?"

I'm afraid you're not well my Danish friend,
you're lucky they stopped it, it was almost your end.
I'm afraid you're a pom now so don't raid the larder,
since all Denmark agrees... Calzaghe's your father.

He came from the northern lands,
Claiming five belts was his goal.
None would hear the final toll.
Siaca, the first to taste his hands.

Mandatories had to be fought.
Speedy Mundine skills was at lack.
Even if the Viking hurt his back,
and as champ dared go abroad.

Next in line Beyer would be.
Kessler was truely on a roll,
only three rings would toll,
for fallen champ of Germany.

Andrade agreed to wait.
Now was his turn to die.
Could he the Viking defy?
No, the dane sealed his fate.

WBO and Ring was the gain.
Welsh/Italian 20 time champ,
Calzaghe came up the ramp.
Out on a stretcher was his pain.

Finally there was only one.
Bute was his romanian name
Only one fight to gain the fame
Kessler in the end 5 belts won.

After Calzaghe whoops him unto death I will pour my beer,
I will ask for the fans to remember the good times,
Like when he almost landed a punch,in the process of becomming blind,
Kessler walks to ring with his big oger look,
a left,a left an uppercut now the fags shook,
Down is Kessler and he cant get up,
The ref counts to 10,over,it's over kessler put in his place,
Joe Calzaghe raises his arms in defiance, and pisses in his face.

Born in Wales, Godlike Calzaghe he was.
blessed with hands of blazing speed.
Landing from all angles was his deed.
Destroying Eubank - Joe was his boss.

Excellent thrilling pugilistic might.
One by one - year after year.
Calzaghe was the name to fear.
Yet he needed his defining fight.

Endlessly names out he called.
No one answered, what was wrong?
Why can't this god have his swan song?
Then Lacy appeared, but he got malled.

Desperately celebrities he beat.
Would this be end of the Gods days?
No one to impress, none to amaze.
Finally a dane added a 1 to his sheet.

ESB has a fiend, a demon if you will.
Blocky be his name, daft is his quill.
When ever he posts, danes are the mark.
Hatred he spews, his words are truely dark.

Time and time again, he constructs reality.
Slandering is his game, is he beyond sanity?
Blocky be his name, with sculptured abs.
Socially inept, I can only write this in caps.

The Welsh Stallion

Raised in Frank's stable on rich grass and grain,
His plush life provided not much of a drain,
Famed in his homeland for being the best,
He never quite bothered too much with the rest.
Preferring to run by the quite second best,
On his hometrack.

He just loved Frank's rich grains a little too much,
His four brittle hooves were not iron as such,
So he liked much to lounge on Fank's big, famous ranch
From which no one and nothing quite managed to wrench
Him away.

Thus, content as the master of all he beheld,
The proud warhorse became a tad too content,
He challenged show ponnies from the US and Ozz,
To prove that there would be no matter or cause,
To give him much trouble,
And he sank them in rubble, of course.

Till one day the message he finally heard
That his legacy had always for him come third,
After the rich grains, the home track and the unbeatable "0",
That he always remarked to both friend and foe,
Not anymore, though.

So the proud horse decided enough was enough,
He needed to challenge the fast and the tough,
It wasn't on a whim! He needed to redeem,
Himself...really!

Like a wild Pegasus he rose in the sky
To challenge a Warrior Prince do-or-die
And for the sole time all on the line
He became a true hero, proud, honest and fine,
Much loved for all time!

Calzaghe and Kessler its a fight for ages
but when will it get out of the negotiating stages
woe be to the fan that longs for this fight
for each of these warriors to test their will and their might

Joe Calzaghe, he surely has a legion of fans
we know he wants it, he of the brittle hands
Kessler, he too, has fans that wish his name gold plated
but there are some that say, maybe he's overrated

I yearn for the day when these two step in the ring
and we all get to hear that opening ding
is there a better fight, is there one that can be found
because on this day a true champ will be crowned

There once was a half English Viking,
he had a large legion of fans,
he worked hard to become a contender,
and hooked up with a very nice man:hey ,

There was a great champion however,
who's chin was made out of granite,
the Viking attempted to scare him,
but ducked the great champ as a habbit,

One day the gloating backfired,
pastry was forced to fight the old fag,
after he had his will broken,
he left the place in a bag,

You may be confused by this story,
but the clear moral in this case is this,
don't go running your mouth,
unless your willing to sleep in your piss.

There once was a half English Viking,
he had a large legion of fans,
he worked hard to become a contender,
and hooked up with a very nice man:hey ,

There was a great champion however,
who's chin was made out of granite,
the Viking attempted to scare him,
but ducked the great champ as a habbit,

One day the gloating backfired,
pastry was forced to fight the old fag,
after he had his will broken,
he left the place in a bag,

You may be confused by this story,
but the clear moral in this case is this,
don't go running your mouth,
unless your willing to sleep in you piss.

:hi:

Tough but fair!

Little pastry Kessler used to ride his bike,
Now he's been decapitated and is lying in a dyke,

He thought that he would be the king but to no avail,
He got his ass beat round the ring, his corner had to bail,

The simple jab hook routine didn't work well here,

From across the pond we wondered how long negotiations could go on?
****** made a fair call, and we had to question Palle’s balls,
Threatening a boxing jewel for all, as he flipped, flopped, and stalled.
In the end conceding, thankfully not cheating, his fighter and sport.
Let court be the Ring, fisticuffs to swing, as a victor's song will sing.
The realest moments in life, toll as the bell ding’s, under a starred night.
Man to man they stand, no excuses in hand, as fans watch in delight.
Forget about race and location of space, let heart, will, and skill
reveal the champions face.

My humble attempt at playing a long:hey IMO, the poetry's in the motion of the gloves but given the passion put forth by the Euro fans here and given my discussions with some, my two cents.

The commitment of Joe C. being questioned,
(His love of a quick buck was mentioned!...)
****** decided to call Palle's bluff,
The old man, in hospital, though on his last puff,
Rallied to get hold of the money,
To avoid appearing quite funny,
And before he was finally pentioned,
He decided no penny was to be rationed.
And thus to increase his offer he fashioned.
So why do we still have to wait?
Why is the fight arranged for so late?
All this is not easily sanctioned!

The fight of millenias came to pass.
80,000 people eagerly payed the cost.
Europes finest two, appeared with class.
A perfect gameplan, definately a must.

In the corner blue, reigning champ stood.
Hardened by battles of unheard multitude.
None knew his number, no one could.
Now was the final time, to end this feud.

In the corner red, contender champ snickered.
"I am ready for you, Calzaghe" now he thought.
A gent he was, respect in eyes they flickered.
Your time is up, tools of war has been brought.

A battle of titans, 80,000 in Cardiff viewed.
Hands of china, but knowledge beyond.
Cheering sounds and hails end in mute.
Hammer of thunder, roared across the pond.

12 rounds of onslaught cleared the dust.
Pugilistic brilliance at its very height.
Broken hands, but wills would not bust.
History here was written this Europe night.

Judges had made their telling counts.
Luckily, there was none the sinner.
Viking warrior had won champion rounds.
Thus he was claimed as the final winner.

Towards the proud barbarian, tall and strong, implacable and bold,
Who seems to dare to stare him down, trying to freeze him cold.

And with one lunge he gets in range his pointed sword now ready,
He swarms his foe with rapid blows keeping his own stance steady.
The son of Thor now leaps aside, with confidence, and pluck,
It seems a game to him almost, nor does he doubt his luck.

The general, with vicious doggedness, in his advance he dodges,
Yet with great speed and skill his throat the roman soldier clutches,
And in eternal vice-like hold he grabs the general's gown,
He stuggles desperately, he screams, yet cannot avoid to drown.

His vigour all having forsaken him, the son of Thor now watches,
In impotence and deadly shame as Master his face now notches,
With blow and blow of hurtful slaps as he administers correction,
He's terminally foiled, frustrated, without some quarter or protection.

November frost meet the sensation,
Pride of Wales shall face mutilation.
Fallen from grace, your memory I shall erase.

November frost meet the dane.
Pride of Wales shall face his bane.
You, I will dethrone, in the ring I set the tone.

November frost meet my dominion.
Pride of Wales shall face oblivion.
Dont break thine hands, surely you can dance.

November frost meet the fate
Pride of Wales, demise has a date.
Meet your very end, to me you will bend.

I was having flashbacks to the state of Aussie soccer 10 years ago when we were busy getting our arses kicked by New Zealand

That said the team is still underdone physically, the side will improve with more game time, and be able to apply more pressure and play more physically (and a little more mobility) with opposing teams as the tournament drags on (though never a top speed). They need to rethink the attacking plan a little, I know they're trying to give more ball to Viduka but he's lazy in the best of conditions.

Argentina will be too consistent for the scizophrenic Mexican side, i'm sure the Argentinians will turn the ball over far less, generally play a tighter brand of football and come out ahead 2-0 or so... though there's a small possibilty i'm biased.

He will give a valiant effort, but will be throughly destroyed.
It's sad for some that no viking axe will lay touch on the supernatural Welshman.
I just hope that no fool labels the fallen King as a tomato can.
He will rise from defeat and smash warrior Lucian Bute in comeback.
But he will forever be scared by that legendary, brutal, supernatural attack.

It's okay, to dislike Kessler, but needless to the danes abuse.

How can it be, you know a great deal, unless its the viking dane.

Ring-ring, first round it is
JC starts strong, and Kessler tries to follow
Slap, slap slap, the power is totally hollow.
Gaining ground, but most of them miss.

Ring-ring, 2nd round here we go
More Calzaghe flurries, but Kessler counters good.
For the first time, the welsh is on his backfoot.
Great ring generalship, this is good show.

Ring-ring, 3rd now begin
What the hell? No defence from either man.
Will this see 12 rounds? Must be more for the fan.
Trading shots, who will win?

Ring-ring, 4th slowly starts.
Pace slowing down, not much action.
Was that a KD?, no JC just lost traction.
TV is panning to 5th rows old farts.

Ring-ring, 5th is picking up
Kessler sets the tempo, controlling the pace.
JC seems dizzy, his eyes filled with haze.
The dane wins his first, he should not stop.

Ring-ring, 6th will commence.
The welshman retaliates with lefts and rights.
Definately the fight has reached its heights.
However, Kessler has awesome defence.

Ring-ring, 7th erupts.
We back back with the dane in command.
Endlessly he with jabs on JCs face does land.
Taking count till 8 the ref stops.

Ring-ring, 8th with breathtaking suspence.
Kessler takes a breather, losing his chance.
Calzaghe picks it up, cheers roars from his fans.
The ring champ now shows excellent offence.

Ring-ring, 9th the bell declare.
The viking is back fighting in spurts
Grimace in the face, Mjolnir truely hurts.
Will this be the end of JCs nightmare?

Ring-ring, 10th is here.
Joe is now back against the ropes.
It's not taking a toll, or so he hopes.
Wow, another knockdown, oh dear.

Ring-ring, 11th this is it.
Amazing comeback, JC is a star.
Blazing guns, almost lightning from afar.
Kessler is down, what a remarkable hit.

Ring-ring, Championship round.
The fight back and forth it sways.
oh my, this is pugilistic boxing craze.
These are like two Pacs, final bell sound.

Ring-ring, whose fans will sing???

I found this poem, that Calzaghe did in an interview last month:

Listen!
A ring is a ring at the end of the day
Listen!
I got to put food at the table at the end of the day
Listen!
At the end of the day this will be my greatest fight
Listen!
It's not about roses and fighting beautifully in the end of the day
Listen!
At the end of the day I break my hands but I always win
Listen!
I could be in for a very hard fight at the end of the day
Listen!

:good i love the end. i never knew we had such poets among us, keep it coming guys. this should be stickied till november.

One-two
November is the date for me and you.
Three-four
The fight is neigh, to settle the score.
Five-six
Who on the undercard will be in the mix.
Seven-eight
Time to lose a zero, and seal one's fate.
Nine-ten
Viking, Stallion - fight it out like men.
Eleven-twelve
After this, one of us will not dwelve.

Showboat Supreme

He came not to see but to conquer the Dane,
To marshmallow his balls, to knock out his brain,
His career was not to have been all in vain,
With small glory for suffering and pain.

To redeem himself wholly he needed this fight,
His opponent could not be another one diet or light,
Not just to beat the shit out of him right,
But to make of this fight an extraordinary sight.

So he extended his chin,
The showboat supreme,
His windmill sling-action,
To provide satisfaction.

BOOM!
Like a hollow big tin,
His head in a spin,
His balance wore thin,
And he fell on his chin!

His face was all bloodied,
His honour now sullied,
He felt like a bum,
And he called out his mum.

So suddenly he called DiBella.

Mundine was the plan,
but he rejected to meet the man.
Finally they agreed to talk
but now HBO didnt walk

cause of this the match could die.
Showtime came into play
but much our dismay
Kessler wasnt first
Palle was now to burst
Will this fight take place
this is a fucking maze
Shall ****** eat the cock

Palle and ****** must confess
they like a game of chess.

DanePug and Decebal are kicking ass but heres another one from me

Of Celts and Vikings
A story be told
they've come so far
for either to now fold

Both had belief
you could see it in their eyes
legions of fans
brimming with pride

Two Titans will clash
and each will know pain
For neither winner nor loser
Will it be in vain

Punches were traded
It was almost barbaric
But more often than not
The skill flowed like magic

The fight had ended
and the winner stood tall
No longer a mere Viking
he was now, truly King

"I've seen him on TV before",
But little did they know,
That He was China_hand_Joe

He runs the hills each morning,
Up valleys and mountains so steep,
For 36 minutes just twice a year,
But memories we longer keep

For a decade He's been the champion,
Knocking all challengers aside,
They came, they lost, He conquered all,
He is Wales' best pride

He sought a lasting legacy,
So Lacy came and went home sorrier,
But the fans, they wanted more,
And called for the Viking Warrior

And so it came to pass,
That the deal was finally done,
And personally I really hope,
That HBO doesn't let them fight after one!

There'll be fireworks and singing,
Cheering and despair,
For the fallen champion,
There'll be damage to repair

But who will the winner be?
Many think they know,
Deram, the-best will pick Mikkel,
But I'm with China_hand_Joe

The Fight

They fought like two heroes, with valour and might,
Giving each other no quarter,
Their true blows resounded in the dark Cardiff night,
Like a clash between pestle and mortar.

His ground - The King - JC - proudly he stood,
Jokeying leftwards and rightwards,
Buzzing his hands in a swarming attack,
Sweeping continuously downwards.

Lunging and thrusting The Viking commenced,
To target him straighter and faster,
On a tightrope step forw a step back he then fenced,
Turning and gliding - the Master.

Mustering forth all his cunning and will,
The Viking in pretence receded,
He drew the relentless assault with much skill
To snare him he finally succeded.

Turning the King with a feint and a roll,
He assailed him with vicious volition,
Swinging hard right he hammered his pole
Condemning the King to perdition.

In Wales no one could ever know
