An all British matchup, Conteh wasn't a big 175lber but had great skills in his heyday. Who wins and why? Please make weight an issue...;)

Hey, let's have Calzaghe vs. all the great late 70's early 80's light heavyweights while we're at it:lol:

Anyway, I take Calzaghe by SD. I don't know how Calzaghe will hold the weight of 175, so I'll see it as a close contest, with Calzaghe narrowly prevailing.

I think Calzaghe wins a very clear to wide UD, Conteh wasn't as big and strong and same of the LHW monsters and his skills are not on Calzaghe's level in my opinion.

What:?

Conteh was a huge Light Heavyweight, who fought at Heavyweight and had to boil down to make 175lbs, often IMO affecting his performances.

Calzaghe would be a nightmare match up, style wise for Conteh, especially if Calzaghe could get a 172 lbs or under clause.

Calzaghe WU15 (9-6) in 15 interesting rather than exciting rounds of boxing.;)

Conteh clear ud. Vivcious bugger of a fighter with good skills, speed, decent punch and good stamina. Holyfieldesque use of the head shouldn't be underestimated either.
Equally at home boxing or brawling, kinda reminds of Calzaghe actually.:D

I agree. I would also that Conteh had faster hands than Calzaghe did. Conteh was also a little taller and he had a longer reach, which he would have put to expert use in this bout.

People today don't realize what a slick boxer Conteh could be. Conteh was a sizzling long-range combination puncher with an excellent left jab.

Calzaghe is good but I think he would have been just another contender if he had fought in the '70s and early '80s.

Focused Calzaghe by shut-out or near shut-out.
