I think this was the final match of 01 Mundial..never saw this match it til now.
I think I agree with Bravo that a focused BJis almost unstoppable.
I mean he just tore thru the Mundial against top level comp and if you are familiar with No Gi JJ..this is as good as it gets. I really dont know how Sherk wins or anyone within weight range for that matter.

He was only 21 there, 3 years to get his blackbelt. Thats unheard of.

I agree how is Sherk going to win ? BJ will pick him apart in the striking and I believe Sherks takedowns like Matt Hughes are predictable because they lack in the striking department BJ will see everything coming or maybe take a page of Hermes Francas playbook and nail Sherk with them knees coming in and BJs knees are nasty ask a dam good fighter in Din Thomas. Even if Sherks gets him down I cant imagine him even though hes good at it controlling BJ on the mat for 25 minutes without BJ sweeping him or just straight up submitting him. 25 minutes is to long for Sherk.

I think a lot of people are highly underestimating Sherk here. I certainly think BJ will win, but Sherk has a fucking granite chin and unstoppable cardio. There is a great possibility of him outpacing BJ and taking the last three rounds.

Exactly my point. this video shows that unless injured, theres nothing you can do in BJs guard..absolutely nothing. No wonder GSP wasnt able to do anything as well and his GNP is miles ahead of decision Sherk. Like you mentioned standing up Sherks got no chance and lets not even go to where BJ ends up on top of him... What a fighter!
Also Eddie Bravo who pretty much revolutionized the rubber guard said that even he needed to warm and use his hand to put his leg around his neck. BJ doesnt and with no hands...he is that flexible and he even mentions he can win in any weight. These are the top guys now talking..Bravo, Laimon.

I know that
but to be that dominant and sweep at will, mount at will, take the back at will against the best in the world..Thats just crazy..Thats why hes the prodigy..he just suffocates you

Penn is amazing... and he should be favored against any opponent at 155. However, I could definitely see a situation where Sherk gets BJ down, and grapples with him for a couple rounds, wears BJ out... and then overtakes Penn down the stretch. Nobody is unbeatable, and BJ has shown to be beatable in the past. BJ SHOULD win the fight, and if I had to place a bet, it would be on Penn. However, to act as if Sherk doesn't have a chance is seriously overlooking what Sherk himself brings to the table.

Sherk has the tools to beat BJ, IMO. Like an above poster said, he's got a granite chin and the best stamina in the business.

I would hardly collapse from amazement if Sherk won. Now, all of a sudden, it is down to three years for Penn's blackbelt.:patsch The time keeps getting smaller and smaller. First it was five years then four and now three. Two years...Anybody??? ANYBODY!!!
So far it was only Iron Duke(i believe) who went down to 2. Its a record.

Its always been 3 this is well documented and he was delayed by Ralph at that. Thats why the Gracies cant stand him after he left esp Rickson
and thats why he moved to Nova Uniao..and voila they gave him the BB.
You also cant say that NU just handed it to him because NU is known to take the top fighters only in every division. They are the best of the best in BJJ
People have this idea that Sherk will suffocate BJ from the top and hope BJ gasses and decision it out.
People keeps IMHO overestimting Sherks strenght advantage. I dont think this would matter
I see it this way
Sherk cant GNP Penn..and BJ is strong enough to work on submissions from the bottom.
I can see Penn winning a round from the bottom just for being active and Sherks inability to finish. Its counterintuative thinking but very possible.
One more thing Penn can Sherk from his guard. That I have no doubt
Couture is stronger than Sherk and no one has submitted Randy even in practice the last decade or so.. Not even Jacare could submit im. Guess whos the only one who did?

Sherk definatly can gnp bj, why couldn't he? Its pretty likely that he will get gnp'd during the fight in fact.
BJ appears to have moved beyond everybody else at 155, but hes not gonna just go through everybody without troubles, theres gonna some bumbs along the way. I do think hes the best though.
And I don't understand the "nobody has subbed Randy in practice" bit, is there a time frame for that? Because he has been subbed.

It's 3 years dumbass, thats been well documented and said many times. I typo'd two years once.

Last time I think was Enoue but that was Randys early years...I heard or read this interview somewhere and will post article of it..I mean Randy, Matt L, these are BJ's greatest fans. Anyway its beside the point
As far as Sherk..I'm one who never bad mouth him because hes great..Hes a dynamo. the problem in his game is the lack of skills once he gets into a dominant position to finish or attemp subs..
He cannot GNP as well at least against top level BJJ guys and BJ is at the top in MMA. And who has ever done damage in BJs guard...Sherk is not the best he's facing..Id say Gomi is a better GNPer than Sherk but Gomi couldnt do shit...The logical question is what does Sherk bring that Hughes, GSP, Renzo, Gomi, Machida, couldnt?
One thing I like about Sean is hes great at gaining position like passing a guard (he does this faster than anyone along with Penn) but he just cant inflict great damage.
And fighters know this..just ask Florian..whos whole theme is that he finishes.unlike_____

How is your MMA training coming along?
Perhaps you could achieve Blackbelt in a single year. This would be the conceivable senario.
Iron Duke walks into grappling club, sporting his UFC hoddie. Instructor is so impressed-Instant Bluebelt.
Irom Duke spends a preparatory week mutilating his ears with a common pliers too give the illusion of cauliflower ears. Instructor is once again so impressed-Duke is awarded Purplebelt.
Iron Duke then spends the next few hours spreading his Fedor hate/propaganda to anyone who will listen and WHOLLA! The BJJ grapplers (Who are generally very bitter toward Fedor, in the first place) find a kindred spirit in the Duke-Who is then awarded Brownbelt.
For Blackbelt: The Iron Duke will probably have too roll once or twice a week for the next year but HEY! It is not easy obtaining a Blackbelt.
Go get em' Duke...

Yeah! Perhaps that was a waste of time. Sorry! I should have not gotten personal. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
Incidentially: I do wish you luck with your training. I may not agree with many of your opinions on the sport but that is no reason why I should not wish you success in it's participation.:good
Ok thanks.

JZ aint great... hes very good I give him that.
Dont let the Shaolin win fool you...Shao's great in Gi competitor but MMA he aint all that. I dont see a comparison...
BJs pure Jujitsu is on Viera, Shaolins level just a notch below the big three of Souza, garcia and Roger..
No Gi BJ is top 5 in the world and in MMA JJ..hes tops
JZ is a few notches below all these guys... and dont be deceive by JZs standup...he meets someone who strikes back he'll be soon be declared overrated

To be fair JZ took Masato to a decision in K1 max, but I agree, BJ's standup is better...BJ's everything is better.

I do believe JZ will handle Aoki.. I wanted to see this fight. I could be wrong. To me Aoki is so overrated, he's got one good thing he do..his rubber guard but other than that..hes got no top game. At least JZ has decent wrestling skills and can GNP
