What is the UFC doing wrong with the Heavyweights? Have they basically just given up on this division? It seems if they banged their heads together they could do a helluva lot better, being that their Lt Heavy, WW and Lightweight divisions are kicking ass. Just think about this for a moment
Fedor refused to come
Couture walked away
Sylvia is possibly not resigning
Arlovski is likely to walk away
Hunt just signed with Pro Wrestling
Barnett hasn't been drawn in yet
They have
Nog
Crocop - who has lost his last 2
Vera - who I like, but even he has had problems with them in the past
Mir - Would be destroyed by any top Heavy
Lesnar - needs work
And then some others
Could you imagine the most talented and most marketable WWs all leaving or signing elsewhere...I can't. I know the Heavyweights aren't the deepest in talent, but there are alot of interesting fights and fighters out there. Whats up UFC?

The UFC Heavyweight division has been a broken piece of shit since the mid 90's. I think any hope we had that them acquiring Pride might finally fix this has evaporated with their seemingly failure prone negotiating tactics with fighter contracts.

Goddamn what a mess when I think about it:
Mark Coleman
Maurice Smith (kills mark coleman)
Randy Couture (is stripped of title after a contract dispute)
Bas Rutten (beats Kevin Randleman in bullshit decision, then quits the UFC)
Kevin Randleman
Randy Couture
Josh Barnett (fails drug test, quits the UFC)
Ricco Rodriguez
Tim Sylvia (fails drug test, gives up belt)
Frank Mir (almost kills self on motorcycle and gives up belt)
Andrei Arlovski
Tim Sylvia
Randy Couture (belt is going to be stripped for contract dispute)
Nog (beats guy who isn't the champion, yet becomes champion)
Am I missing anyone?

I agree. That division has had some serious stability problems. However, I really don't think that Smith killed Coleman. I actually thought that Coleman dominated most of the match, and used to hate that "overtime" rule they used to have.
Don't forget Jake O'Brien and Eddie Sanchez! :rofl

You laugh but O'brien did beat Herring, which isn't a bad win.

I considerred that. I really don't know how good his sub defense is or how good Arlovskis subs are at this point. I know AA has a good Sambo background but I haven't seen it come off in MMA too much. So if Obrien can take him down who knows, he might be able to control him to a decision ala Herring. Arlovski is tough to take down, he's strong and agile and has great striking so the smart money is on this staying a kickboxing match and Arlovski winning.

No, you are right, I was thinking of Pete Williams kicking him in the face for some reason.

Yea that was brutal. Coleman had just beat the living shit out him for the entire fight... another overtime defeat. Overtime's weren't good to Coleman.

I'm anxious to see if Kongo gets a title shot after Crazyhorse. If he improves his ground game, he could be dangerous. His standup is pretty exciting.

I wouldn't bet against it. O'brien is no joke.
If I had to pick one to save my life it would be Arlovski, but I wouldn't voluntarily wager on it.
As for the original post, Syvlia shows no sign of leaving, and Arlovski isn't gone yet.

Sylvia said on his blog that there is a definite possibility of him leaving :deal

Thats what I'm saying, fuck cut 1/2 the roster and put the money into cloning research. Clone the Canadian Super Hero and just make them fight eachother constantly

Yeah, but he's insanely boring, which isn't good for the heavyweight division. So, yeah, I laugh at Jake O'Brien. When he becomes the next exciting heavy and UFC draw, give me a call. I sure hope the UFC isn't banking on him being a big mover in the division. I'd rather watch an Eddie Sanchez bar room brawl.

After reading Sylvia's blog, it's apparent to me that Big Tim should, in fact, leave the UFC. But instead of going to M1, as he suggests, I would say he should go back to the second grade.

It's only really the middle three divisions that UFC dominates. At LW and HW there's better talent outside UFC than within it.

You know I hear a lot of people saying this and I have real hard time believing it......About Lightweight.
Who outside the uFC can beat Penn or Sherk"?

Tough to say without grounds for comparison but Cavalcanti, Shaolin, Ishida, Melendez, Kawajiri can surely compete.
Also there's various style matchups, Hansen I think would give Sherk a lot of trouble.
