His footwork is not agility that is foot work. I mean the upperbody. He stands straight up like a statue and if there were any talented fighters at Heavy they would have a field day on his lack of any upper body mobility. He dont bend he cant get a jab down to the body and he is a pure head hunter. He has no hook his left hook is kind of like a jab hook. He keeps his left hand low and out in front telegraphing his jab. The power of it and that he cant throw 2 and three is why he is effective. I aint saying he is a bum. It's unfair to call Wlad a robot. He is supremely talented and his talents allow him to be successful with the same strategy for most fighters. establish the jab, fire right hands, hook off the jab (he's the best in the sport at it) and he was really bringing a nice lead right to the party last night as well. No average person here would know who the light heavyweight champ is...or middle...or welter...etc. They'd know Calzaghe and Hatton, that's it.

Too many people are pessimistic about boxing. Every day, we hear about how it's on it's last legs. But it's simply not the case. It's just that boxing can very rarely be mainstream. Most of the times, it's barely worth a 50 word column in a tabloid paper.

This is not Wlad's fault. Or FMJ. Or any other boxer you'd care to mention. The entire system is flawed. All mainstream sports have one thing in common.

They will take place no matter what. Boxing dosen't have that luxury as it could be down to one man selling an entire card and that said fighter could get injured. The fight is called off and the public is pissed off. That dosen't happen in other sports. If Federer got injured during Wimbledon, it still would of continued on. If Hamilton got injured, the F1 would of continued.

On top of that, these sports and indiviuals display their talent on a very regualar basis. Where as in boxing, we might get to see our favourite fighter fight 1-2 a year.

However my whole point is that boxing will continue just like it always has and sooner or later we'll get another superstar who captures the joe publics imagination for a while. Then he'll lose or retire and boxing will again be on "it's last legs".

It's unfair to call Wlad a robot. He is supremely talented and his talents allow him to be successful with the same strategy for most fighters. establish the jab, fire right hands, hook off the jab (he's the best in the sport at it) and he was really bringing a nice lead right to the party last night as well. I always thought he had great personality, is an extremely likeable fighter and is an incredibly smart man.The guy fights the best compettiton at heavyweight and the reason he asked Merchant what he thought was because he wants to please the fans, he wants to fight who the fans want him to fight. This may be a down heavyweight era but Wlad is certainly a bright spot and I look forward to him unifying the belts. My hat goes off to Wladimir Klitschko.

The fighters of today only seem to fight to win, not win spectacularly for the fans. It is an important part of the sport and takes a special fighter to take it to this type of level. Wlad aint there yet, and probably will never be, but another diamond will come along and hopefully it will happen soon.

Actually, his fights are pretty damn exciting. What makes them less than thrillers in the fact that they are typically so one sided.

What makes his fights great is the chin factor. We know that Wlad can be hurt IF you can get to him...but who can break through this new guard?

Wlad went from a vulnerable offensive machine constantly in 5th gear to a nearly invulnerable, conservative one that can shift gears. He has become extremely complete as a fighter. He has arguably the best jab, right hand, and left hook in the division! How often is that the case with a pro HW?

Some of his fights are worth watching simply because they are executions in action (Byrd, Austin come to mind). You watch that fight simply waiting for the other to get knocked completely senseless.

There's no doubt Wlad's inside game leaves something to be desired. One thing that I liked about Lewis was despite his inside game not being the best, he DID use it and often effectively.

I'm not sure Wlad needs it though. Supposedly, he used to be much more inclined to fight on the inside, but my guess is that a lot of the snap in his punches goes away when he's so close. Steward has him typically tie up or push off on the inside...not the most crowd pleasing, but effective.

But hey, George Foreman never had an inside game either, really.

His footwork is not agility that is foot work. I mean the upperbody. He stands straight up like a statue and if there were any talented fighters at Heavy they would have a field day on his lack of any upper body mobility. A bit flat footed? That is the first time that I have ever heard Wlad being refered to as flat footed... it is generally recognized that Wlad has great footwork.
