As regards equipment:
Is 150 euro too much to pay for a four foot leather adidas bag?

You got pics, let me see them...it thats about 50 US each or so..so I would say it is a little bit high...don;lt like leather bags...they don;t bread as well as nylon bag...specially for all the sweety stuff you constantly put on the bags...do you have "gloves dogs" deodorizers you might need them

150 euro's:shock: yes its too much. no need to buy addidas, dont need a label on a punch bag.
how much importance do you place on each aspect of core training and roadwork - anaerobic and aerobic? what I'm speaking of is a 5-mile run and a 1-mile interval session; some weighted twists and 100 sit-ups.

Strength training = 1-3 reps max?

No need to explain...I know what you are talkinga bout:
Roadwork, it is very important to keep to conditioning and stamina...it is the bread and water of any boxer..stamina...without it you are done...it equates to conditioning....
Now, I like to mix the road work with the sprints, after the road work I like to do sprints usually 20 reps at 100 meters, ten forward and 10 back to the starting line after a shor revocery period (1 minute) so you sprint 100 meters, recover for 1 minute and back 100 meter, 10 reps..then I like to do what I call calf and thigh work, running backwards for a mile or so....this will help you aerobicali and anaerobically...
sittups is something you should do on a daily basis, as push up and chin ups, these are basic oif any daily routine for a boxer...
as for weights, this is something you need to do litle weight with high reps, leaning the muscle and keeping flexibility, I like to do weights before sparring, or bag work....

Ooo.. Are chin ups important and why?

That's if you're at like 90-100% of your 1RM. Typically it's 4-6, I believe.

no. 1-6 is the correct number =)

thanks. yeah, I've been doing sit-ups daily recently. I agree that push ups are essential, pull-ups maybe...they do build upper body stability. what about squats? or will running cover that area?

what our coach has us doing is 3-5 miles run with sprints every 10 or 20 seconds, we get to a set of long stairs and then we have to sprint up and down that 10 times after that its back to running, anyone who can't keep up gets left beind and no one wants to be left behind in the bushes at night.

so, you come across stairs every 10-20 seconds?

:huh
no!
i meant we run for 3-5 miles, after about a mile and a half we come across a long set of stairs, we do sprints on them and then carry on running to finish off our run.
lol. but you still do sprints every 10-20 seconds up until then? that seems too short.

no we do it the entire way, the only time we stop is when we get to the stairs, after that its back to running, and on the last half a mile its a race back to the gym, last 15 or so will have to do high reps of an exercise which the trainer tells them (100 push ups etc..)

i just broke my own record today and ran 6miles in 51mins but still gas like a dead man in the 2-3rd round, why?
i am going to have an amateurs bout, so i am stopping weight training to make weight any good bodyweight excercise routines?
i have been doing tons of drills on slipping and dodging, i dodged/slipped punches last week without trying it but when i actually intentionally try it hardly ever works, any tips?

Im totally opposite of you. I used to smoke so my cardio is pretty bad but i can run maybe 3 miles or so but ill be flat out after that ( i include sprints) So as you can see its pretty bad but when it comes to actually fighting im in till 5th round then i run outta gas

That takes experience and practice to get past. Breathe deep, focus on relaxing your muscles and not tensing up too much.

I'm planning to start fighting again in the summer, I haven't for about 5 years. I spar rarely but am doing it more and more and I work out 3 hours a day for 5 days a week and just run on saturdays, but have only been doing this for a few months. I am planning on fighting at 165lbs and my weight now is 175. My question is, how long before you hit your peak weight on average working out this often?

I hurt my knee recently-not exactly sure how I managed that-but I cannot do squats until I get an MRI. What are some good leg exercises I can do instead of squats?
Rest until the MRI..end of story

I like my boxers to stay within 2-3 lbs max of fighting weight during regular workouts, and at weight during fight training....that way you optimize your workout to the needs of training and not for weight lost that could be distracting..

Becuase you are thinking about it rather than reacting...your mind is cluded of negative taughts when you drill the slip and weave...relax ..get hit a few times and keep the drill going...

He's right. I kept training on an injured knee about 4 years ago. It got worse and has never been the same since.

Roadwork really kills my leg power in the ring. I run in the morning three times a week by switching from long runs (3 miles) to interval training. How many days before a fight should I stop running?

1.How fast should I be able to run 2 miles if I want to have amauter bout?
Is there any substitute to doing roadwork?

I don't think speed is necessarily an indicator of fitness; there are different kinds of running to do; although I'd say 18 minutes would be a good start off. All the running in the world as fast as you want won't make up or take the place for sparring and learning to be calm and not have an adrenaline-induced fatigue, as someone from my club unfortunately learned last night.

the absolute most important thing not to do in boxing is making excuses, but not too many fighters follow that rule at all
Hey man, I know you have trouble getting fights, have you ever thought about taking the trip down to the DC area to pick some up? They're having a Golden Gloves event every weekend for like the next month down in the PVA.

Is there any substitute to doing roadwork? When you are doing roadwork is not about speed but about endurance...then time you spend running is far more inmportant than the time you make per mile..a pace between 7 and 9 minutes a mile still acceptable for roadwork, as long as your an doing it with conviction.....
