The card is titled “Latin Fury!” and Sam Garcia - the trainer of Jose Celaya - was full of “fury” about how Friday’s weigh-in was handled. “It was a spectacle! They walked us up to a stage and Jose Sulaiman (President of the WBC) said, ‘The stage is a bit shaky, so we are going allow 300 grams (almost 10 ounces) over the limit (154-pounds).’ I said ‘No!’ to Sulaiman but we were told to step on the scale before I could say anything more. They put the marker on the 154 pound mark and it (the beam) started to dip down and they said ‘Alright, you can get down’ but I wanted to know exactly what my fighter weighed but they made him get off. It was going too fast.” Garcia and Celaya then moved away from the area to allow Julio César Chávez Jr. and his camp access to the scale. Garcia had intended to go back to the scale to monitor the weigh-in of Chavez but stated that he was suddenly cut-off by “a perimeter of people surrounding the scale that were pushing and shoving” which blocked his view of the scale beam. “Chavez came up to the scale while Jose was putting on his pants. He stepped on the scale with his arms in the air and in a blink of an eye he stepped off and started drinking Pediolyte.* It was blur. They would not allow me to read the scale before Chavez stepped off. It was ugly, it was bad news. I went over to (Fernando) Beltran (the promoter) and said, ‘That’s bull****!’ but he said nothing.” Garcia stated that he knew it was “too late to complain” as the fighters posed for photos. “Chavez looked bad. I saw it in his face. It’s going to be to our advantage anyway. I am not upset. I just want the people to know about this. We are going to win and we are going to win without cheating. Just because we are in Mexico doesn’t mean that they can make their own rules. They are rules and regulations. At least you can do is make the weight!” Although upset, Garcia was confident and proudly stated: “We never threaten to pull out! The fight is on!” The official weight for Julio César Chávez was listed as 154; José Celaya was listed as 153 1/2. *Pediolyte is oral rehydration solutions (ORS) that contains a mixture of salt, sugar, potassium and other elements that is normally used for infants to replace body fluids that are depleted from vomiting or diarrhea. Boxers drink Pediolyte to quickly replenish their electrolytes from rapid or extreme weight loss.

Watched the fight this morning, Chavez looked shite from what I saw, only saw from rd 3 onwards, although celaya's face was fucked up! But chavez hardly threw any punches, used his face as his defence, and generally didnt look right

Only about the 4th fight I have seen of Jr, but he looked wrse than usual, against a bigger puncher he would have been KO. If that weight issue thing you posted is correct KIRK, thats just fucking wrong

Much respect for the family name, JCC is one of my favs, but it seems that jr is getting some preferential treatment because of it :nono

Celaya got ripped off.
He should of got ---"More Money" for every pound that Junior was over.
Boxing is a business.
He should asked for more money or pulled out.
Also a representative should have the opportunity to witness the weighin and must be satisfied that weighin process is accurate and consistent.

Situations like Kirk described are more common than one might think.
If the corners are not heads up and suspect that some wrong doing can be in effect.....the commision people who do the weighin's are often bought off.

The Chavez Jr. weighin was nothing compared to what happened on the weighin when Arturo Gatti fought Joey Gamache.
According to Gamache's camp and even some journalist who witnessed the event.....Gatti stepped on the scale and was clearly over the weight, but the official who is in charge of weighing the fighters announced Gatti on the mark.....it was a quick step up, immediately step down, and they announced Gatti on the mark to the protests of the Gamache camp....all the while Gatti was gulping down pediolyte as the Gamache camp protested.

Oddly enough, Gatti-Gamache was on the same card as DLH's fight with Darell Coley......and the same thing happened when DLH stepped on the scale, they announced DLH on the mark when clearly he was not, DLH quickly stepped down and began gulping down liquids to the screaming protests of the Colley camp who were screaming, "they did it again, they did it again" as they had witnessed the Gatti weighin!:-(

I'd have to think that weighin's like these are more common than one might think. Its sad, but its the reality of a sport that is no doubt full of corruption!

Against any decent fighter with a hard punch, he's dog meat! He is way too inexperienced to even consider fighting an over the hill DLH!

His brother Omar, looks to be in far better physical shape. But he too, is wide open after throwing shots.

Then there was the Cotto/Malignaggi controversy where the time of weigh-in rules were changed just prior to the fight.
