The two (Rahman , Mesi) have battled since their amateur days, and according to Baby Joe’s father and manager Jack Mesi, things are getting closer towards making the bout happen.“We went to a press conference to help promote Rahman’s last fight in Rochester the other day and he called Joe out again,” Jack said. “We’ve been trying to do this fight for years.”Jack said the fight would be a huge moneymaker, but that could be disputed because of the likelihood that the fight wouldn’t take place in Western New York.
...... "That’s why Jack explains the bout would likely take place overseas and preferably in South Africa."

It was supposed to happen before Jirov almost sent Mesi to an early grave. I'm gonna say Mesi takes it by decision...
.... I can't really say why, I just think Mesi takes it if they meet.

And no fighter in the sport has worse luck than Rahman. Everytime he steps up to a major challenge he chokes ( Maskaev rematch, Ruiz, Holyfield ) or he gets screwed ( Toney & Tua TWICE ). I feel bad for 'em in a way.

I believe Mesi was the WBC #1 contender , when Rahman was champion. Mesi was injured, and Maskaev stepped in and KO'd Rahman.
Mesi does have some decent wins Jirov, TOS, Barrett. Actually, Mesi kind of reminds me of Maskaev , in height, weight, punching power . They are similar fighters in style and size.

He was. The fight would've been more interesting to see at that time. Not so much anymore. If they do fight, it'll give the winner's career a nice shot in the arm.

The World Boxing Conspiracy ranking him highly is no suprise...anyways Mesi hit his prime already, it wasn't much of one...Rahman KOs him.

In all honesty, this would be a pick 'em fight. Neither fighter really has anything over the other stylistically.. the only difference is Rahman has a better chin, IMO.

personally i think mesi is getting stronger after the two year layoff and would take out rahman quickly if he showed up like he did for his last fight

Haha, i agree. Sadly its gonna take permanent brain damage to keep Joe Mesi from stepping into the ring.

Tough fight to predict...Rahman looked as bad as Taurus Sykes his last fight, but Mesi has only fought D-level opposition since his comeback. Mesi by UD

for mesi's sake i hope he doesnt fight rahman. i think he had a pretty good career and has shown to be a pretty good if not world champion type fighter. however, with his brain condition i dont think he should be cleared

Mesi's looking about as fat as Rahman is these days..

If Mesi fights this month, he lights up another local bum from the YMCA...it means nothing. He should fight as many more bums as he can line up while Rahman beats a more credible guy...then Mesi can cashout in Buffalo vs Rahman...

:huh He looked in great shape in his last few bouts, but he fights this month so we wlll see.
In my July issue of Ring it shows a photo of Mesi looking fat in his fight with Linberger.. I guess it's just a bad photo, or something.

At this point, it's pretty tough to say. Mesi's on a fairly good run with his last couple fights now, and Rahman was stale and extremely unimpressive against
Sykes, but Sykes is better than anyone Mesi has beaten since returning from his hiatus. Since Mesi has been very active and has been improving in conditioning and form from performance to performance, while Rahman looks to be finished at this point, I'll favor Mesi.
