Taylor plans to give up title!
WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor's proposed September 29 clash with Kelly Pavlik at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, will apparently be his last as middleweight champion. Taylor's hometown newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, reported on Sunday that a decision has been made by Team Taylor to move to super middleweight after that fight.
So Kessler and Calzague might unified..., Berrio will lose is next fight... so Taylor vs Bute anyone ?

IMO, it is not a wise decision because he is going to lose his main advantage he enjoyed among the MW, his size. I do not see him beating any of the current SMW belt holders either.

I think Pavlik beats Taylor by stoppage, and Jermain cites the weight issue as the reason.
If Taylor can't make 160 anymore, he should let Pavlik and Abraham have the opportunity to find the new champ.

Agreed.
Taylor would enter fights with Kessler and Calzaghe as the underdog.
I think he'd take Mundine.
that`s a releif.
clicking onto this thread i thought taylor had forgone the pavlik fight.

I live in Little Rock and the newspaper also says he is going to fight pavlik nomatter what... ozell nelson his trainer does not want him fighting at 160 cause he had to lose 9 pounds in 3 days before spinks fight.... But he is not listening and is going to fight pavlik.... That is a champion.

What a wonderful pre-emptive excuse.
Has DiBella been spending time at ESB or something?

Damn, you just scared the crap outta me, thinking Taylor is moving up before his fight with Pavlin.

Pavlik will work that boy like he's never been worked before.

there was talk about this before.
With his height it is logical that he can't stay at 160 forever.
Same for a guy like Paul Williams, or Tommy hearns before
Taylor is, imo, highly overrated, but I have to admit his competition/resume at middleweight, if it does indeed end up including 30-0 Pavlik, will be considered very solid.
At 168 Taylor's size advantage goes out the window, and his numerous technical flaws will be exposed by Calzaghe or Kessler.

IMO the Taylor camp is already making excuses for his loss to Kelly Pavlik. If Taylor loses, they cite the weight issue. If Taylor wins, he vacates and moves up to avoid a re-match. (Taylor can beat Pavlik if he fights a very smart fight, but he wouldn't beat him twice.) It's just my opinion, but win, lose, or draw, Taylor has never taken a beating like he is going to get from Pavlik!

btw, i think it's a good move.
He fought B-hop twice, Wright and now Pavlik. After that there are not many MW's at this moment, only a few germans, but the chance that they will fight a guy like Taylor is almost zero. If he would beat Pavlik and stay at 160, there are no fights for him, only LMW's and the audience doesn't seemed to buy another Taylor vs a LMW. So he would and up fighting mora, joval or some like that.
And if you look at 168. There is Kessler, Calzaghy, still Lacy, Bute, Winky Wright II (?), Miranda, Froch, hell even Trinidad or Roy jones could be an option.
There are just numorous good fighters out there, with after november only 1 title, who as as legitimate and undisputed as you can ever get in boxing.
It;s gonna be an exciting division the next few years.

IF Taylor wants to go to 168 lets the fight Taylor-Pavlik be in 168. No excuses please.

Taylor is not making excuses .... He is moving up AFTER the fight with pavlik no matter what.... He will kick pavliks ass... There will be fireworks... Pavlik is there to be hit.... Taylor is there to be hit... Taylor will move better than miranda and will hurt pavlik...

in one of the recent instances not being able to knock out a jr. middle is understandable. kassim ouma is a tough tough guy even though he doesnt have the size to be competitive at middleweight. i can understand him not being able to knock him out. oumas only stoppage loss came from a three knockdown rule, not b/c he was hurt

but as far as the pavlik fight taylor gets the exact same as edison miranda with a middle rd big big ko!!!

i just hope if he goes down it is swinging like a champ not running like a little woman. where pavlik has to chase him for the knockout

Pavlik is supposed to move up in weight soon also.
Taylor wont be able to hang with skilled fighters at S.Middle.
the Taylor-Pavlik winner vs to the Calzaghe-Kessler winner seems like the obvious way to go...but this is boxing we're talking about... :verysad

interesting... I'm glad the Pavlik fight is still going on.
People that are saying he's already getting his excuse ready should stop and think. At least he's still fighting Pavlik, he could have just went right to 168. Stop trying to discredit everyone all the time. Man, boxing fans are babies sometimes.
I think he's gonna have a hard time at 168, they're are some real solid fighters up there.

I hope there is an avatar bet for the taylor/pavlik fight. It won't effect me, because I don't dislike either of these guys. I think the loser of the avatar bet has to have a picture of the winner of the fight for a week.
I'll go ahead and pick Taylor. Pavlik won't be able to just walk into him and punch away. He'll have to contend with Taylor's jab, and Taylor won't just be stationary.

Taylor is physically a big MW but he fights like a small MW.
He has no power at middleweight (he can't even knock out Junior Middleweights) so he definately isn't going to have anything at Super. Bad move, is he just looking to be destroyed or what?I don't think his moving up in weight has anything to do with anything except that he has too much trouble making 160. Pavlik also has trouble and will more than likely move up to 168 after this fight as well, so there may be a rematch at 168.

I think Taylor has it in him, somewhere --- *somewhere* --- to rise to the occasion and win against Pavlik in emphatic fashion. I hope. Because damnit, I like the guy, and I want to continue to like him.

the thing is tho...
i think people are beginning to UNDERESTIMATE taylors abilities due to his previous performances.
however, oppositions weight or not he has fought extremely talented fighters with different styles.
i feel like pavlik for the most part has to be set throw power to his full potential.
i think taylor will take a page out of the wright fight and keep the fight in the middle of the ring and show more movement.
i just dont feel like taylor will lose...i would imagine a score like 116-112 for taylor...probably no ko tho

He is going to SMW because the money is there. The money are where the three biggest names in MW and SMW are and since two of them cannot fight at MW, the only way to get the three in the same division would be for Taylor to fight at SMW.
Apart from that it is a natural thing for Taylor.
Remember that Taylor is as tall as both Calzaghe and Kessler, and has longer reach than both!

the hate for Taylor on this board is blindly incredible
hes going to fight Pavlik like so many wanted, then says hes going to move up to supermiddle after this fight and ya'llz saying its a preemptive excuse...pathetic.
Also some FYI Pavlik isnt going to stay at 160 for long either.

Another thing Taylor been talking about moving up before Pavlik even roamed the earth or was on anybodies radar. You talk about dumb crap talking. By the way Taylors speed and jab will set him free on the wide open jaw of the slow power punching pavlik..:bbb

Taylor is fighting a legit middleweight and someone with power??? wow, I am most certainly shocked. Taylor and his team are setting the stage for an excuse once Pavlik beats the holy hell out of him. He has it coming, if he in fact fights Pavlik until it is signed it is not happening...

Probably Pavlik now which is surprising. I'd rather Taylor stayed at Middleweight and built up his legacy. Beat Abraham and others before moving up once he;s cleaned out the division.

when you cannot look good against Cory Spinks at middleweight it is obvious that Taylor has no chance of cleaning out the division. TAYLOR IS HORRIBLE. has not had an emphatic win in years now:lol:

he promised a KO as he did against Ouma. With his size he still was able to mount nothing effective. He was overrated but i think people are starting to smell the taylor trash bag

No matter how much some dislike Taylor?? The guy has EXEMPLIFIED fighting the best. He's faced the top names in boxing at 60 and if he beats Pavlik?? Taylor could very well grab the IBF belt at 68 and then face the winner of Calzaghe vs Taylor or rematch the Hopkins vs Wright winner. Either way?? Those are clearly bigger fights than whats left at 60.
Now, I'm rooting for Pavlik in that fight but I cant disrespect what Taylor has done:good I believe that Pavlik would likely move to 68 as well should he win, because the BIGGER fights are there.
