View Full Version : Ibragimov vs. Savon in Olympics

I think Ibragimov fought well here and didn't get enough credit for punches landed. 4-0 after the first round?? 6-0 to start the second?
And someone tell me, in the 4th round, it sure liked Sultan stuns Savon with a hard left. Albert says "hotdogging by Savon" and Atlas says nothing, but sure as hell looks like Sultan might have had him wobbled and could have stopped him. Referee stepped in and gave Savon a minute break.
The points of this is that Sultan does have experience on how to get inside on a taller, rangier fighter. If he can fight like he did against Savon and Whitaker, there is a chance he can get to Wlad, especially with the added advantage of being a southpaw.

i dont think there is much there to go off of. savon in no wlad. sultan did better in the last couple of rounds but his punches were crazy wide. i saw lots of wasted motion from both guys. i'll still take wlad by beheading - round 6. did u notice how open sultan is to the right hand too? watch holyfield and austin. those fights are probably more appropriate when sizing them up
and what was with savon's flag dance at the end

What'd you think of that shot with 14 seconds left? Showboat or hurt?

Didnt knew they fought either. Im actually impressed by Sultan! But I dont think that this amateur fight will help him too much against Wlads power.
Savon would beat Wlad though.

good shot but savon seemed like he was milking it a bit. looks like a clowner :good
hey look, sultan is no bum. he is a solid hw. i like his left hand power, 2-fisted skill, and the various angles he throws from. but i dont like his chin and susceptibility to the straight right hand. i'd probably pick him over every other hw today or at least make him 50-50 with a couple. i just feel wlad is superior in too many areas.

Savon is no Wlad ?
I'd put big money on Savon beating Wlad if ever they fought.

I'd put big money on Savon beating Wlad if ever they fought. If they fought when Wlad was 17 and Savon was 26, as was Savon's specialty, then yeah I'd agree with you. Both grown men, Wlad starches him.

well you'd end up broke. look at all that wasted motion by savon. he would knock himself out in 6 rounds. wlad would decapitate savon if he tried to outbox him. projecting 4 round success w/head gear to 12 round bouts isnt too reliable imo.
out of curiosity, what's your take on wlad-sultan?

Not the 2000 version who lost twice to Odlanier Solis (who is good but not favorite against Wlad).

Just reinforces opinions already stated.
Sultan has one dangerous attack, which is that right hook that comes behind the lunging left. You can bet Klitschko has noted this. He also jumps way too far in and smothers himself. Klitschko will not step back so much like Savon did here, he will tie Sultan up as he gets in close. And because Sultan jumps in so far, he gives Klitschko legitimate reasons for grabbing on.
I see this fight breaking down one of two ways.
A) Sultan goes on the offensive early but smothers most of his work by not judging range properly, allowing himself to be tied up over rounds, exhausted and then knocked out sometime after 6 as he will be tired.
B) Sultan will run from Waldo early and look to survive. In that case he may go the full 12 as Klitschko won't be particularly interested in getting hit with left hand counters ala Sanders.
