What do you all feel about Calzaghe fighting at 175?

Will we see an even better Calzaghe without the weight draining and the added power at the weight whilst retaining his speed over his opponents?

Or will he suffer with the extra weight, losing his speed and reflexes and having to take punches off bigger opponents?

Will be interesting anyway.

Cheers :good

Cazlaghe will clean the 175 division out with relative ease.

I dont think it will make him better or worse. He should beat most of the top guys at 175.

be interesting to see. We have already seen hatton suffer the effects of a few extra pounds. I think Joe will carry the weight OK i think his speed may suffer late in the fight but i think he will have enuff to beat hop

hatton didnt suffer the effects he just wasnt able to bully people at a higher weight due to mayweather being bigger than him. calzaghe wont suffer any changes IMO

The weight will suit him.

it will make zero difference. on fightnight at SMW he comes in over 170 anyway.

Well yes obviously. But he could come in even heavier if he wants and he won't have to kill himself making weight either.

That's why I think he could be even better at the heavier weight.

If anything it would be better for him. Since he drains himself down to 168, he will still maintain his speed at 175 but his reflexes would be even better, cos in theory he should be fighting guys slightly slower than 168lber's but his reflexes wont change one bit. His style is very elusive too so fighting bigger guys would just make it easier, hes not trying to bully them.

I think he'll be better for it. Hes 36 now. Kessler should do the same, not sure how he fights at supermiddle, he was the bigger man against JC

I don't think the weight makes a big difference on Calzaghe personally, but opponents will be harder to beat. Hit just a little harder, chins just a lil' better.

it's ironic that he's moving up in weight to fight a guy who is probably smaller than him.

It's a good move.

Yes.

Nope. He has an iron chin anyway, so no worries there. Nobody at 168 or 175 is putting Joe down.

Will be interesting anyway.

I agree.

Good day, sir!

Makes no difference, since weight isn't being put on, rather there is just less to lose. Joe will have spent long periods sparring at that weight, since he always struggled to shed the last few pounds

The only difference is he'll look healthier at the weigh in, and I think you'll find he'll come in well under the limit

I wouldn't be so confident. Look at what 7lbs did to Ricky Hatton, or what 10lbs did to Bob Foster. Not everyone can maintain their abilities moving up in weight. Both Foster and Hatton's style did not work when they put on weight, so whose to say it won't affect Calzaghe too? His style doesn't seem to rely no strength, but he could end up being pushed back.

I think Calzaghe will do alright, but he stands less chance of winning at 175lbs than he does at 168lbs. 168 is his natural weight, so that's where he would have an advantage.

(I know Foster was fighting against heavyweights, but he did not look good in those fights)

168 is not his natural weight. He walks around at 14 stone = 196 pounds.

He has to nearly kill himself to make 168

I dont think the extra weight will hinder him.
Calzaghe himself thinks it will suit him and give him more power, you never know though.
Hopefully he will be as good/better and not like hatton at 147.

I certainly wont be using it as an excuse if popkins beats him at 175, it will be full props to pops! :good
