MESI RETURNS, AIMING FOR MINTO MATCH
By David Staba
Joe Mesi's next opponent hadn't been finalized at press time, but whoever winds up in the opposite corner July 27 in Chester, W. Va., will be less important to the unbeaten Tonawanda heavyweight's future than another boxer on the same card.
Brian Minto is also scheduled to face a knockout-victim-to-be-named that evening at the Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort, where Mesi pounded George Linberger into submission in less than two minutes back in February. Assuming Mesi and Minto win, the two will likely be matched for an October fight at the same venue.
Minto, a native of Butler, Pa., built a 27-2 record, with 16 of the wins coming by way of knockout, against largely nondescript opposition. One of the losses came in his last fight, a 12-round decision against veteran fringe contender Luan Krasniqi in Stuttgart, Germany, in March.
Minto is best known for his July 2004 war with Vinnie Maddalone. Minto was down in the first round and trailing badly on all three judges' scorecards before rallying to score a final-round knockout.

Minto is a bum, although it's a good step for Mesi. Whether you think he should fight or not, Mesi looked by far in his best comeback shape against Linberger.
I hate to say it, but if he can hold that kind of conditioning, he can be a serious contender again within a year.
Provided he's moved correctly, of course.
But, I will say that this West Virginia thing is troubling. I can't see Mesi's career going too far if he can't get licensed in a real commission state.

Mesi's people must realize the time to get back into NY is soon or else, he'll be doing side-shows like this until he gives up.

Baby Joe is going to ko this guy. Minto is a decent fighter and aggressive, but he does not have the size for the division. And Mesi may even hit harder than Krasniqi who nearly koed him.

I reckon its an even matchup.
Mesi hasnt looked good since the comeback and I dont think he will ever regain that form he once had.
Minto went from a club fighter to going the rounds with Krasniqi.
He isnt very good but dangerous for Mesi, a good fight to gauge where Mesi is at.

Mesi should fight Wlad it's really the only fight that makes sense
Baby Joe is an undefeated future champion with all the tools and skill to destroy Wlad I mean lets be serious Mesi has more power more speed and has fought much better opponents if it weren't for politics he would have unified the titles long ago...
Here begins the Mesi express he is the almighty savior of Boxing and will lead this sport into an unprecedented era of glory
(Just a taste of what we'll have to put up with IF he gets by Minto)
So here's rooting for Minto to beat the Baby Bitch

What the hell happened to Mesi retiring to go into politics? He said like 4 months ago he wasn't fighting anymore, the shit was on Fightnews. :patsch
This guy and his camp are freaking idiots, taking a year off during a comeback. Mesi is getting his head knocked off again.

THe thread is over a year old. Mesi is still pursuing politics, last I read.
But once he fails to win whatever political race he's wanting to get in on, he'll then come back to boxing in one more attempt to make something big, rich, and famous of himself. That, you can almost certainly bet on.
These guys get their egos caressed, and they get addicted to being treated like a star, and when they have to leave the sport, and the caressing stops, they can't deal with it, and will then do whatever they can to get themselves some attention again. Once he sees he won't get his ego caressed in politics, Mesi'll be back in the ring, trying to get it caressed, there.......bet on it.

Thanks for mentioning it, I had a typo.
I bumped the thread to show how feared Mighty Minto is and has been for years.
Minto is going along well, and may be good. But why dump on Mesi to make point? Mesi won some good fights, and had carreer cut short.

Before the injury Joe was a solid Top 10 fighter. Everyone forgets he beat Barrett and blasted TOS in 1 Round, which are not easy feats. However, after the injury he suffered in the Jirov fight, I don't think we'll ever see what he really could've been. I'm not saying he would've been undisputed world champ, but would I give a pre-hematoma Mesi a puncher's chance against a previous beltholder like Maskaev or Corrie Sanders? Sure.

Just to clarify Chef this was written like a year ago, and it explains my frustration with the never was that is Joe Mesi... i can't stand him especially the way he claims he should be the heavyweight champion...
My comments were made to illustrate the kind of crap we will have to listen to if this guy continue's to fight, eventually he's going to die in the ring and it will be bad for boxing. Obviously Mesi would last all of 30 seconds in the ring with Wlad who I've made it clear on many occasions is my fav fighter and the best fighter in the world...
just wanted to make sure you didn't have me pegged as a Mesi nutthugger

False, he squeaked by Barret who is maybe top 20 and at the time not even that, TOS I don't give much credit to either... and any boxing fan knows mesi was out on his feet due to a huge uppercut from Jirov...
