On ESPN they now show live fights with a 5 seconds delay, why ? Because in case someone in the corner says nasty words, they'll be able to censor it so they can protect us from that kind of language
Do you feel the need to be protected ? Jesus Christ what a bunch of motherfuckin' assholes with shithead brains, are these people livin' in the same world than we do.

While they're at it why they don't ask the ring girls to wear a burqua and as soon as the fighters are getting a little busted up they should switch to a poker game.

It'a a freakin boxing fight, they'll be cursing, violence blood and some t & a, if you don't want to witness any of those things, use the remote and stop trying to sanitize anything.

You want to protect fans, make sure the fights shown are competitive and that fighters are not taken advantage of instead of worrying whether the trainer might say Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, CockSucker, MotherFucker, and Tits

Anyone who watches the sport of boxing.... I don't think they care about vulgarity.. but whatever..

5 second delay shouldnt really bother anyone..

I disagree.

Anything that that allows boxing to go onto TV more, and into more homes is a good thing.

Same reason they turn stump microphones off on cricket coverage between balls, so they don't hear the players calling each other "fucking cheating cunts".

People that go to the fights, understand it. Casual fans may turn it off because of it.

Who are they trying to protect here? Adults are mostly the ones watching these fights, and what message does this send to kids that watch? "Go beat the shit out of someone's face and body..but whatever you do, don't swear, that crosses the line."

I'd sure miss Steward cursing the shit out of Jermain Taylor if they did this on HBO :(

It's not the delay that bothers me but the fact that they think hearing curses is important enough to go through that trouble to prevent it

Talk about having your priorities screwed.

I'm sure a lot of casual fans stay home friday nights to watch a bunch of nobodies fighting on ESPN.

Just to clarify..aside from the entertainment value of watching Steward tear into Taylor..I've found limited enjoyment from even watching the feeds from the corners. Most of the time its just "You gotta keep doin' what ya doin'! Throw that left then the right. Get in their, you winnin' this thing!"

But as Mean Machine said, the fact that they've gone through the trouble is just useless. :-(

That's not my point.

My point is other sports do it, why not boxing?

Or you've got a 10 yr old kid who loves boxing, and his ma hears

"come on, don't let this muthafucka run rings around you." you can be sure that TV's going off, and not going back on boxing.

Why should boxing be any different? And what do we lose from not hearing them swear anyway?

What other sports you know of FOR SURE does this? Most sporting events are usually live or on tape delay. Never heard of other sports using 5 second delay to monitor cursing.

NBA, NFL, and MLB games are all live, as far as I know...

During NBA games, I've even heard the microphones catch some of the players saying some stuff they'd wish the national audience didn't hear them say..

I'd prefer this didn't happen, but if a five-second delay is what it takes to get more boxing on the air, I'm all for it.

I KNOW cricket does it, I posted that previously. they don't post on delay, but they turn the mics off to avoid catching it as much as possible.

Other sports also don't put microphones in half time talks etc, which is essentially what going into a fighters corner is doing.

I don't like it, but I don't see the harm if it allows more people to watch boxing.

I guess I'm in the minority opinion, because the five second delay to prevent swear words from being broadcast doesn't bother me. ESPN has to worry about the FCC as well. I'm more bothered by the hypocrisy of HBO's refusal to show the Ring Card Girls during fights. This is the same network, after all, that shows very explicit programming on a regular basis.

I actually like the fact that HBO doesn't (usually) show ring card girls. Fucking bimbos. You can see skin on any other channel. I think they cheapen the broadcast.

Guess we'll agree to disagree on that one. I think we are in agreement on the cursing thing, though. :D

Why are you so surprised? The same f**king morrons made the incident with Janet Jackson's nipple bigger than the tzunami that hit Asia. Thank God to HBO and its uncensored broadcast.

pretty gay cause it takes a lot of emotion out of the corner's comments, but on the whole its not that big a deal. In a way maybe its a sign that boxing is picking up.

it would be fine if there were any reason to believe that the average nuclear family gathered on the sofa for the 9-11pm slot on ESPN2.

Hell you're watching two guys kick the shit out of each other, I think language is a little academic at that point.

not that they even go to corner audio that frequently, with that self-loving airtime sponge atlas taking every opportunity to wax omniscient, but on the rare occasion that they do it's nice to get the full impact of what those guys are telling their corners. somehow "be first g__ ____ _t. ___ng use your jab. don't _____g let this ___ of a _____ steal these ____ng rounds" just doesn't convey the full range of emotions taking place in that special moment.

dude... fights can be won in the corners...

so watching what's happening in the corner is sometime just as important as watching what's going on in the center of the ring...

If it's boring in each corner, and nothing is happening, then, chances are, so is the fight...

Imagine they did this sort of crap on every sports channel ... it would kill boxing.
Imagine we had never heard Steward yell at Lennox "get this motherfucker out of there ... you will get caught with some crazy shit" or Norman Stone's speeches.
It really pisses me off.

Censorship in general pisses me off. Now they are planning to ban killer games (like Counterstrike and Unreal Tournament) in Germany altogether.

Thats funny that you said that. Right after the Cotto replay, and the Paulie Maglignaggi fight on HBO , me and my kid got to watch naked lesbians spanking each other  That is until I noticed what was on , and swiftly turned to the cartoon network .

i want cursing commentators. really blood thirsty and biased ones that want to see boxers knock each other senseless. like a crazier version of larry merchant.. 2 commentators that hate each other, that always support two different fighters and that are full of silly jokes and disrespectful comments. at least on a second sound channel stuff like that should be broadcasted.
