Up until now my training has all been boxing-based. That is; skipping, speed ball, heavy bag, shadow boxing and some circuits. I've built up a decent level of fitness but now I want to increase it. So today I ran around the village a few times before tackling "church hill", it's a very steep hill with a church at the top. So I sprinted up it a few times.

What I want to kno is, how many sprints should I do it, and how much break should I leave myself in between? My legs were like jelly afterwards - I almost didn't make it home.

Who the fuck can sprint up a hill for 3 minutes?

I would do 10 second sprints up a steep hill, walk down to the starting point and repeat 10 times... That shit is hard on your system and you do not want to over do it. Great training for overall explosiveness...

My legs are sore today. Do you think I should also do sprints on flat ground? There's a rugby pitch near me, so I was thinking of doing different length sprints (200m, 100, 50m).

I would advise sprinting to near failure and actually end your session when you are somewhat fresh. You will gradually build up your endurance and improve your recovery time.

Rome was not built in one day.

How many hills are big enough that you can run full speed up them for three minutes?

Also, try Tabata.

I personally do 4 30 second sprints with 30 seconds rest in between.

then you are no longer sprinting,

perhaps what you can try is see how many hill sprints you can do in 3 minutes and then take a minute rest and repeat 4 times?

Would you advise a 10-15 minute jog before I start the sprinting? Or some other kind of warm up? Also I'm thinking of adding burpee conditioning, should I do this on the same day as the sprints? I was planning on 3 sets of 12-15 to start off with.

you could do it together for example....

sprint 200 metres perform 10-15 burpees, jog back and repeat 8 or 9 times,

or

sprint up the hill perform 10 burpees 10 push ups and 10 squats jog back down and repeat.

That would be knackering - however I wouldn't like to do burpees at the top of the hill in public. People are already looking at me weird for running up and down the hill. But on the other hand at least I'm keeping myself in shape. I shouldn't be embarrassed .

Fuck em! I always run up this hill in town next to the hospital... if people stare too long... wave at them.

Yeah I did it today, target was 10 sprints up the hill. for the first five as soon as i got to the top i walked back down and carried on, but after that I had to take longer breaks in between. Then I threw up when I got in.

Brave man.

Dont worry it will get better in time. Especially if you were able to puke once home instead of outside. thats a good sign. :yep

Another session done today. Didn't seem as hard - still only did 10, but I thought I could've pushed for one more if I really wanted to. Didn't need as long to recover between sprints, however I am a long way off from being able to sprint up and jog back down without taking a breather in between. Another plus is I didn't hurl this time.
