"We just can't make this weight anymore," Nelson told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. "We're not going to kill ourselves to make 160. This weight has been a problem for a long time. We've hired a nutritionist, done everything we can. I'm not going to make him do this anymore. It's time to move up.":-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
Yea yea Yea--Taylor knows deep down that pavlik is going to hurt him badly and the doubt in his mind and his camps mind on if he can beat pavlik is weighing heavily on him. Already complaining about the weight and its three months prior to the fight. Lets see--Taylors last fight against spinks there was not one mention of weight problems to my knowledge. Oh wait, could that be because he thought he had no trouble beating spinks in the YAWNFEST fight of the year. Now--when he is mandated to fight pavlik, the #1 contender, he is complaining about making weight and how it kills him to do so. It kills pavlik too. Thats no damn excuse, its their freakin job to make weight. Sounds to me that taylor is taking the same road as that bum Edison Miranda took. Crying about weight, only difference is Taylor is doing it before the fight not after. I cant wait till sept. 29.
Well, Kessler-Calzaghe winner can kick his ass - you can be sure they won't be as tentative as hopkins, who really shoulda beaten him both times.

Exactly even before the Miranda fight Pavlik's team were talking about a move to supermiddle.
Obviously they thought it in his best interest to take the Miranda fight on HBO and it has certainly paid dividends.
Taylor will smash him though.

Remember when he was asked about Calzaghe?
Taylor spoke of his plans to stay at 160 rather than move up to super middleweight.
"I'm comfortable at 160. I make 160 easy. "

What does this have to do with this fight?
Totally different fighters and styles. Pavlik is even close to any of them.
Pavlik may be stronger and more dangerous than any of those guys but I reckon the way he fights has the potential to make JT look real good.
Of course he is a bigger chance of knocking off JT unlike Jermaine's recent opposition.
Thats the way I see this fight going, either Pavlik landes something big and ends it.
Or he gets impaled by JT's jab all night and is made to look slow and ponderous.
I love Pavlik, I love watching him fight.
I dont particularly like JT and havent enjoyed watching him fight for some time.
But Taylor is the better boxer hands down and he will win this.

Both guys are good for the fight game, funny thing is I met Taylor before and he's a pretty big dude. I don't know how the hell he makes 160lbs. At 160lbs I think Kelly catches Taylor mid fight and possibly stops him. At 168lbs Taylor outworks Kelly down the stretch possibly TKOing him.

I personally can't wait to see Taylor get the beating he has coming to him. I don't know if anyone else read that article in the Everlast catalog he was featured in, but he has no reverence or respect for the title he holds. He said straight out that he doesn't care about belts or his place in history, he just cares about the most money he can get for each fight. He said he isn't even a boxing fan! He never watches boxing unless it's a big fight and he watches it with friends. He might as well have taken his Ring Middleweight belt, thrown it on the floor, and then pissed on it! Where are the champs (Marciano comes to mind) that felt it was an honor to hold such a belt and such a distinction. How can this guy have made it this far? Now that I think of it, I'd like to see him take a beating just as much as Maywether. Floyd was my number one target, but at least he cares about legacy (his distorted reality of his own, that is) and has respect for the positioni he holds.

Dont worry, Taylor will make weight and mark my words he will beat Pavlik. Dont underestimate Taylors ability to get physical with Pavlik. Taylor has been in there with the best and while I like Pavlik and enjoy his style I do not believe Taylor is the Middleweight champion because of a fluke. Hopefully this fight with Pavlik will silence all the critics once and for all. He needs a career defining fight and Pavlik is "Taylor" made for him :bbb

Beautifully said. Taylor doesnt know which way to run too--stay at 160 and get pounded by pavlik or move to 68 and get pounded. Hes stuck and his camp knows this.

I really got no problem with him thinking that.
Because in the end its a job and a job you cant make money from for very long.
But to come out and say that is pretty irresponsible and disrepectful. It makes me think even less of him and I didnt think that much of the guy in the first place.
Id rather someone who wants to fight for more than just themselves have the belt and get the money Im forking out to watch him. (Though Ive never paid for a JT PPV)

If he has problems with weight they can make fight Taylor-Pavlik in 168. Pavlik may be there little more dangerous - his punches may be even stronger. But if Taylor fights Pavlik in 160 I don't want hear excuses. He can go now to 168 now but no excuses please. He can always change decision about it in which division he fights.

This doesnt suprise me. Steward had high words for Miranda, said hes a pretty good fighter and then came Pavlick and destroyed him but it was clear to see that Miranda had weight issues. Steward is afraid that it will be the same with Taylor, he could maybe make weight, but it would be hard for him and to risky against a guy like Pavlick, i think Steward is afraid of Pavlick so hes bringing already the excuses.

lillarry- I get the catalog in the mail when a new one comes out, so unlessit's on the Everlast website, probably not. I will give it to Taylor- I've always wondered how he makes 160- Look at the tale of the tape for his fights- even against Hopkins- Taylor has an enormous neck and big arms and legs. Light heavy proportions and measurements. How he hits like a middleweight Pernell Whitaker, I don't know. He should be hitting like a mule! Reason #36 I have no respect for the guy. (by the way, reason #35 is him allowing himself to be bossed around by undersized, underpowered, underskilled, and underpaid Kassim Ouma) If you're a guy that big with that kind of reach, learn how to back someone up or at least off with a jab! For as much respect as I have for Manny Steward, he hasn't done much for capitalizing on Taylor's natural gifts.

Don't mistake being tough for being good. Taylor is a tough guy. He has no ring smarts at all. None. He is a big physical presence in the ring, but I don't see much skill, no power, and no ring intelligence. That would be due to the fact that he is not a student of the game. Not saying Pavlik is some savvy ring technician, but Taylor is just a big middleweight who has used his size. How he beat Hopkins (only the second time, in my opinion) I don't know. I blame Hopkins more for his lack of action than Taylor's "superiority".

Are you fucking kidding me? No way in hell does he KO Hopkins and Winky schools his ass and gives him a boxing lesson. I knew you'd throw that back in my face. Adamek-Dawson was different with Chad be a southpaw & very slick, were those factors don't come into play with JT vs KP. As far as a poll about "Who wins, Pavlik or B Hop/Winky, who gives a shit? 70% of the knuckleheads here thought Miranda was gonna blast Kelly out of the ring. Shows what the majority of fight "experts" here know.

thats a reason why his boxing IQ is so low. i remember he was asked a question once about what he was gonna do, and what it would take to beat winky wright. he had no idea how to answer the question. i don't blame him about having no respect for the belts(who does?).
"the belts" you refer to are not worth dried turds- It's The Ring belt that I was referring to and the only one that should matter to anyone.
Well Pavlik has been having trouble making 160 as well and that hasn't stopped him. If they can't make the weight they can always fight at a catch weight like 162 or something like that...
It's no excuse to not make the fight! If they agree to a catch weight - is it still a title fight for the MW belts??

IF TAYLOR THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO LOSE HE COULD HAVE DUCKED THE FIGHT. HAVE RESPECT FOR A MAN THAT FIGHTS THE BEST
Oh my goodness. Lord please help us! A man that fights the best.... Yes- he fights the best small guys around, and he lets a guy that looks like his little kid brother back him up and outwork him, and let Spinks box the tar out of him. If Spinks had any nuts he would have realized Taylor was there to spar and would have taken the fight to him more. I will say that if he was weight drained, that could contribute to his embarassing lack of sting. But there is no excuse for a bigger man not to treat a smaller man (and ones that couldn't knock out their grandma with a bare fist) like he is the bigger man. I shouted the same thing with the Ruiz-Jones fiasco. Had Ruiz treated him like he was the big man and manhandled him, Jones' first knockout loss would have occured then instead of Tarver. Frazier treated Foster like Foster was the smaller man and look what happened. Great fighters recognize their roles. Taylor is letting much smaller guys dictate the pace and be the boss in there. If you are clearly bigger and stronger than the other guy, walk through him! He should be embarassed.

This man beat Bernard Hopkins twice. I doubt that Pavlik would be invited to spar with Hops. He drew with the impossible to look good against Wright, and outpointed a slippery Cory Spinks. He is trained by Steward, and is stronger than Pavlik. Watch for a 5 round TKO by our Champ, Mr. Taylor.
Maybe hes your champ--but he sure isnt the peoples champ. Running around beating up flyweights--what a great middlweight champ. Pffft.

Easy on the drugs! Stronger than Pavlik? Nice wins on his resume, but how many of those fights did he actually win 2?
