View Full Version : Now that Mundine's injured himself...
Will he manage to have a fight that isnt a tuneup before he retires? If his injury is genuine (and Ive got no reason to doubt that it is) hes going to be looking at a 4 month layoff, and after that hes unlikely to take a top 10 ring guy, so itll be bum of the month club time for him.
Wheres he going to go after that though? Will he actually back up his big mouth with his fists? Do you believe hes going to go after a legit top 10 guy?
By top 10 guy, I dont mean someone who has been artificially inflated into an ABC top 10 by a few well placed phonecalls, Im talking about a legit top 10 or so ring guy.
Its unlikely hes going to get Calzaghe or Kessler, because the winner of their superfight is going to have bigger fish to fry as a top 3 P4P guy. The loser would still slap his sorry ass anyway.
Will he have the balls to call out and fight another decent guy though? Im talking a Berrio, Inkin, Froch, Lacy, Bute level fighter. Hes stepped up to this level of competition before and got his ass handed to him on all 3 occasions. Before you start saying silly things, Sam Soliman and Danny Green are both not in this league. They are good domestic level guys, but no more than gatekeeper type guys on the international level.
I honestly cant seem him doing it when he can make enough money fighting bums to live a good life, and whilst Calzaghe/Kessler are floating around hes not going to unify shit. Kess is still only 26 and has a lot more time left in him than Mundine. Although its pretty criminal to put the two into the same sentence, Mundine is going to be soon suffering from RJJ syndrome. In a year or sos time, his speed will have gone, and without this he will not have the avoidance to protect his china chin.
He already knows hes chinny, but atm his speed can protect him to some degree. Once he loves half a yard then hes going to get lit up by anyone on a ring top 10 level. When you watch him fight now, you can see he is too petrified of getting hit to really compete at the very top of the sport.
Whats your guys take on this?

My take is no one is more interested in Mundines status in the world of boxing than Mundine is. He will fight big fights again before it is all over no doubt in the world. Especially because he has a world title a good reputation and pots of money. There is nothing stoping him getting big fights.

Thast would be a shame for such a huge talent. I think his main problem may be a all or nothing attitude. Such an attitude can give you the last 5% that are some times needed to win.
However, in this case those 5% will not make Mundine beat ntiehr Calz nor Kess. So since he obviously is not really going to be the best, someone with such high thoughts of himself may suffer psychologically and simply pack it in.
That would imo. be a huge shame. It is mere coincidence that Kess and calzaghe are aroudn now. Mundine would imo. be clear favorite against Catley, Lucas, Beyer etc. and earlier Calzaghe was too timid to dare unify and he was happy with his WBO belt - so basically Mundine could have had the division to himself.
Now he does not - and he has to either stop fighting (which is a possibility) or live with it. Personally I think he shoudl find a way to live with it and just make as good fights as possible.
Imagine if the Australian football team or Glasgow Rangers football club said "if we cannot be the best, there is no point in even doing this sport".
Of course there is. Soooooo many great fights are out there waiting for Mundine and he can still impress the hell out of many people. But I think he has to change his focus from the big two. Just leave them be. I can just see Mundine having a picture of Kess on his wall and shooting darts at it. That will not help him thinking about those two.. and then when given the opportunity he declines...
That will break the psyche of someone like Mundine. He needs to reevaluate his goals and say openly that his goal is not those two. I think he could have a great carreer if he did that, because he is a supertalented fighter who may even be top 20 p4p, but the division is just ridiculously strong these days.

Mundine will be back....lots of money to be made before he fights Joe or Kess.
another tosser that doesn't know anything about the sport.
everyone talks about green being a puncher and still mundine stood there toe to toe with the red neck.
jealous idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hes very slow and 1 dimensional. Hes not a world class opponent, deal with it. Mundine has fought 3 guys areound the world class area. They all beat him, including the comedy knockout by Sven Ottke, a horrendously featherfisted boxer who made most of his wins at home in hometown decisions. Hes not been back there since, nor is he showing any indication of doing so. Accusing someone of knowing fuck all when you are an obvious Mundine nuthugger is a bit unfortunate, but Im in a good mood today so Ill forgive you.

You're funny telling us all what the heck Mundine is thinking.
Could you also read the mind of Katsidis please ? Cause I would like to know if he lacks the 5% of that "all or nothing" attitude that is sometimes so usefull to boxers.

when you have done sparring then you can talk.
no one sees behind the seens of mundine when he stops guys like paul briggs in sparring sessions.
im sick of people underrating fighters.
stop talking crap because the people who do are the ones who sit in a TAB all day.
Is that like me saying......
"When you learn to grasp the basic concepts of the English Language, then you can talk."
"No one sees behind the scenes when Kallua has his carer change his diaper.":blood
"I'm sick of totally illiterate dumbarses, who underrate people who speak English as a first language."
"Stop talking crap, and get back to sitting kerbside, selling your pencils all day.":yep
Do you know what amazes me Kallua?
You actually seem completely unaware that your IQ is so low that you are a borderline idiot.:admin
I find that concept difficult to grasp myself.......that someone can actually reach that point of stupidity where they proceed with life, blissfully unaware that they are "different". :huh
BTW....... I've done:patsch sparring and even had several fights, so I guess I'm allowed to talk. :D

Here's what I think he's gonna do:
He's gonna sit back and wait to see the outcome of the Kessler vs Calzaghe fight in the hope he may see a weakness exposed in the winner. If he sees no such weakness, he's gonna hope to see a weakness exposed in the loser.
He will then challenge whoever's weakness he feels he can exploit.
If no weaknesses are exposed, or he doesn't feel confident of exploiting them, he's gonna sit and wait until Green gets a title at LHW, and challenge him at SMW. However, as Green said in that article yesterday, SMW kills him now, and Mundine has said he wants to be a 3 division champ, so the opportunity is there for a rematch, but more than likely it will have to be at LHW.
This injury doesn't really have any impact on the above, as I believe Mundine was intending to do this all along anyway - the injury just gives him something he can use as an excuse until the above happens.

Deram, are you actually danish?
I think Kessler is an excellent fighter, but you are deluded. He is not unbeatable and in fact will probably be favoured to be defeated by Calzaghe. What will he do once he has no titles? I believe he will move up to LH were his size will not be as impossing. He has done nothing in his career to date to warrant an unbeatable status. In actual fact Mundine does think he can beat Kessler. He also thinks he can beat Calzaghe and if Calzaghe happens to lose to Kessler he will probably retire or Mundine will probably look to fight him and beat him. These two are not the legends you think.
I believe he will move up to LH were his size will not be as impossing.
Isnt that exactly the opposite - a good reason not to go to LHW. A boxer will take any advantage he can, and if his size gives him an advantage at SMW he's going to take it.
The only reason to move up in weight other than to challenge for a title is because you're stuggling to make the weight or making the weight drains you too much....

Its less far fetched than say the prospect of Green beating Mundine. At least Mundine landed on Kessler. Mundine has improved in most areas and therefore, yeah, I am sure he is a chance.

Because Mundine thinks he can beat Kessler and Calzaghe doesn't necessarily make it true. I'm sure Mundine thought he could beat Kessler before their first fight too, at least when asked by the media.
If Calzaghe and Kessler don't warrant their status, then I have to ask what has Mundine accomplished compared to either of these two? And the answer is a big fat NOTHING!!! Oh yeah, he accomplished the almost impossible task of getting KTFO by none other than Ottke.:rofl :rofl :rofl

And Kessler has not improved at all since facing Mundine? I'm sorry, but it seems to me that nearly all Mundine huggers tend to think that Mundine is the only fighter who develops.:huh

i think kessler will win easily against calzaghe on points but when calzaghe starts to get desperate and take a few risks kessler might knock him out.
Have you seen Calzaghe fight?
Have you seen Kessler fight apart from when he beat Mundine?
