I wonder what people on this board think about this fighter? He seems to be underated and rarely get mentioned, me myself didnt know much about him other then seeing few of his fight againts famous opponent.

However I just watched his fight againts chavez and he's losing on point againts chavez but not by a large margin and before the accidental headbutt occured he's still trading punches with chavez and seems doing good up to that point, he never really get caught or hurt seriously.

He also KO edwin rosario on 4th round, altough he lost 12 round decision to prime camacho and was down in 3rd round

yes but he won the first fight not by large margin, all judges scored 115-113
and he lost the rematch by KO

He was a good southpaw with a decent pop. He would not be as underated as he is If he had fought at a differnt time than Chavez. Not only was he the first to beat rosario he did so after being dropped two times and in enemy territory. The Chavez fight was unusual because the two were friends and sparring partners. In that fight Chavez did not press the fight like. He normally does and let jlr come to him.

Chavez fight was much of a joke IMHO. Chavez didn't want to punish his townsman.

Still a tough guy, but lacking skills. I don't see him winning even the Terrence Alli match, no need to mention 1st Sweet Pea encounter.

Ramirez was good, strong guy, big punch and durable. The big win for him was the Rosario rematch, which said more about Rosario's inconsistancy than Ramirez's effectiveness.Rosario was spanking him until Edwin ran out of gas. The losses to Mancini, Chavez, and Whittaker are more representitive of Ramirez's standing. Good contender, but a full step below the top 3 or 4 guys at the time.

ok, from his career statistic and opponent that he beat i think i would agree with FlatNose, he's one of top 5 or top 10 figthers in 80's era but definetely not the best.

from the way he fight i think he's kinda like a watered down version of chavez... wht do you think?
