Mijares is not yet as well recieved in the Classic Forum. But, based on styles, I think he has the potential to be one of the best ever in the lower weight classes. Mijares by Wide UD. He's the type of fighter needed to beat Galaxy.

I agree, save for a freak KO(Mijares has proven a very good chin so far), I just don't see how Galaxy will win more than 4 rounds judging from the tape we have to study on Galaxy.
Mijares is just too incredible of a boxer and he will be one of the best lower weight class boxers of all time. Possibly the best 115 pounder ever if he can stay there until he's 30 or so.:good

Galaxy, for as strong and powerful as he was, would have his hands full with Mijares. Mijares would control the distance with his jab and put on a clinic countering Galaxy's wider punches with straight shots up the middle. I've seen them on film, and from my estimation, Mijares is a cut above.

Another interesting fight is Mijares and Jiro Watanabe

Another interesting fight is Mijares and Jiro WatanabeAgreed, very interesting styles matchup there. Both southpaws. Watanabe's more timed shots and straight left vs Mijares's superior workrate and jab.

At his young age, Mijares is already a H2H monster.

Lets wait and see before we go over the top on the guy.
He could get pulverised by a poor mans galaxy type in one of his next fights for all we know.
I'm not a Galaxt fan, but Mijares has never fought a strong banger on his level before.

Yikes. So many jumping on this bandwagon.
Vic KO Mijares...
To be honest though - it looks like he ruined Mijares - he's not looked good at all since.

What's surprising about Vic is that after being whooped so decisively by Donaire everyone thought that Vic was ruined, however he's actually came back so strong and managed to ruin a top 10 p4per. Not many have done that before.

Nice thread.
Perhaps freakishly powerful left handed punchers like Darchinyan and Galaxy are a bit underrated?
Sometimes ppl can go OTT on things like style. Mijares had the look of a brilliant boxer, for sure, but had been in real trouble vs face first slugger Kawashima.

Mijares is still young........I think he will bounce back, consider he probably 'should' be 'interim WBA Bantam champ' according to people who thought his last fight was a robbery.
Hasegawa is the best bet for him IMO. Still, Hasegawa himself is very underrated, and thought of as 'feather fisted' :rofl

That would be an awesome tactical battle flea.
Two very decent technicians going at it there..The fight itself may well be quite boring but Id be very interested to know who comes out on top.

Perhaps Mijares would have leaned right into Galaxy'a uppercuts and straight lefts.
Ppl have gone OTT on Mijares' tidy skills. It's like if a guy is unorthodox & a bit wonky like Galaxy or Darchinyan, then it' assumed they don't have any skills. Galaxy could draw opponents onto his bombs, he threw sneaky power shots, he was great in clinches, was strong enough to shove opponents off when they were getting set to punch. He had deceptive, cute moves - like when he pivoted to get a different angle, he'd keep his jabbing hand on the opponent's shoulder so they couldn't hit him. He had an awesome ring presence, chopped the body and the head well, and was probably the most fearsome fighter ever at super fly.
Galaxy doesn't have the outstanding single wins that Darchinyan has - such as Pacheco, Kirilov, Mijares, Arce - but did beat some good fighters, and his longevity is excellent for such an aggressive fighter. It's amazing how Mijares was already being considered the better fighter than Galaxy.

I think Hasegawa points. Fresher.
