As I understand it Allan "Sweetness" Green didn't board his plane for Louisianna possibly over some sort of dispute with the promoter. Allan Green hasn't faced serious competition since Edison Miranda and he pulls crap like that? A moronic stunt like that puts him below Sergio Mora on the evolutionary ring of boxers who ducked fights for illegitimate reasons.

Let us count the ways he has damaged his career....

A) The Louisnanna boxing commission will undoubtably suspend him.
B) The promoter can and most likely will sue him and his handlers.
C) He just labelled himself as "difficult" and "unreliable" with every other promoter in the world.
D) Even if it wasn't the reason that Green skipped the fight, he just gained a reputation as a fighter whose afraid to face serious competition.
E) It was a particular big blow off for his entire fanbase. You know those people who were going to tune in to see their favorite fighter only to learn he never showed up.

What could possibly have caused him to pull a stunt like that? Was it really over a tiff with the promoter? Can his career be salvaged? Should he be allowed to salvage it?

F) Pissed off execs at ESPN, the TV network who was broadcasting most of his fights allowing him to make good money.

yeah i dont understand it either. I like the guy and i think he has alot of upside potential but what the hell was he thinking? I just wonder if he was having health issues again and didnt want to reveal it.

But the world of boxing will no doubt forgive him and he'll be back in the ring. But he needs to make a public statement about his actions soon

Wether or not Green has really badly damaged his career depends on his caracter i think. Bernard Hopkins was seen as a guy who routinely did the most awfully damaging things imaginable to his career in terms of how he dealt with people business-wise, for years, but look at him now. No need yet to panic about Green's future.

He should quit boxing and go into commentating. I'm not even joking. I don't like the guy much and I hate the way he fights, but he's one of the best ex-boxer commentators I've ever heard.

It's funny that he did this now.

He had the opportunity to fight Andre Ward in Feburary - but couldn't get out of his Contract for the fight he had in January. The Ward fight would have been on HBO.

Now that he gets another fight on ESPN - he decides to not take that fight - even though he has nothing esle lined up. That's just crazy of him.

I'm not sure what he's going to do - but once his back - he'll have something lined up for himself. He still has a decent name and a pretty good ranking - so that alone should land him something.

Yep-- Linton boxed Green's ears off for most of the fight.

Hopkins on a bad day was about five times as good as Green. There's the difference.

im not saying he is afraid of fighting antwun echols , but i think maybe after echols stepped in on such short notice that maybe allan thought the fight was to risky , as being stopped or losing to echols might of derailed anything he's tried to do since the miranda fight , either way it doesn't suprise me i've never been a fan of his and his last fight proved that his whole looking at his feet thing he does has nothing to do w/ his colon issues . he did the same stuff last fight as he did vs miranda , either way i doubt espn will be a big supporter of his for quite some time

Green is overrated. He'll be repositioned to makes 2 or 3 good money fights, but his chin is not good enough to advance to the upper echelon.
