what happened in zab's amatuer career, i heard he was very good and i think a golden gloves champion, how come he didnt go to the olympics, who beat him?

I think he was National Golden Gloves Champion from what I remember, too.

he wasn't all that he showed his mental lapses in the amateurs just like he does in the pros
In the NY golden gloves finals he was winning the fight and then unexpectedly in the last round runs around the ring with a clear look of anxiety on his face, refuses to engage his opponent and repeatedly looks up at the monitors to see how much time is left in the round meanwhile allowing his opponent to land huge shots on him the entire round making the fight much closer
