Then again since boxing isn't on all year round and there are big gaps between fights it wouldn't be too much hastle to get a months subscription then cancel would it? It's only a tenner a month:think

ITV got 8 million viewers when Audley bored us In the 1st Wiiliams fight which proves that boxing can be mainstream.

It'll be on Setanta Sport 1 , which is a UK Satellite channel the same way Sky Sports 1 is . Setanta as a group are Irish but originally set up in the American market .

However I too am unhappy this isn't on (UK)terrestrial tv , I don't want to keep forking out for Setanta but it seems I may have to .

Don't Setanta have a deal with Fight Academy now too ?

tenner a month through a freeview box with card slot i think. fifteen if you're using a sky box.

i have setanta until early august due to the ricky hatton fight, but i'm definitely cancelling in august because i haven't watched the channel since.

if you can still leave and join without getting tied down to a contract i may follow your suggestion at least for the calzaghe fight...i suppose at least you get a few football matches as well.

i'm still pissed off though. i can see us ending up in the same position as the united states where most of the top boxing is tied to two subscription channels (HBO and Showtime) or PPV.

edit: just checked the website and it looks like it has come down to a tenner a month.

Fight Academy and Sports Network on Setanta. Plus random fights like Cotto-Judah. Looks like I will have to invest. That should mean fights every month though.

Unfortunately we will lose the mainstream fans because they won't pay.

Setanta will pay though. They gave Hatton $4mil for one fight. ****** is saying outside of the heavies he has dealt with he is giving Calzaghe and Kessler the biggest purse ever, thus he needs solid cash.

and normality is restored..............us in Ireland have to pay more than those in the UK for the same product , still it was nice having the opposite even just on one thing for a while .

A tenner is cool with me.

Ten pound a month is cool, especially when the footie starts. Given that you can get it through a freeview box as well. I wonder what Frank thinks about sharing a channel with sports academy though? Hopefully that will start a rivalary to make the best bills and should also make cross stable fights easier to work out.

I got 2 free months with the Hatton fight and I was going to cancel after that but with this news and Liverpool FC announcing their dedicated TV channel will be with Setanta I think I'll keep it.

Lets be honest, we hate casual fans, we like boxing being an indie sport.

Im kinda happy with the news, as I was on the brink of subscribing to Setanta anyway just in time for the scottish football season kicking off, which Setanta have exclusive rights to, along with some english premiership stuff. Then I hear they have just got the boxing too so Im getting even more for my tenner:D

Thats on a purely selfish level though, but I am sad ITV have dropped boxing so quickly, & sad for the people who wont be able to get Setanta & will miss the big fights.

in a couple of years he'll sign with channel 5 so those of us who can't afford setanta will have to wait until then.

Cunt.

I hate watching boxing on Setanta and I am fucking gutted that he has signed with them.

Get rid of Steve Bunce, and sort the fucking screen out and it will be tolerable for me.

What's wrong with the screen on Setanta?

They have like an inverted widescreen for some apparent reason. It was shown throughout the last Hatton fight. Got right on my tits.

How about we start giving Setanta some praise?

At least we seem to have a channel that has some serious intentions of showing boxing, they showed Judah vs Cotto they have Hatton, Fight Academy and now Sports Network. Add this to it's Scottish and English football coverage for next season and a tenner seems to be a bargain.

they won't it's a perfect opportunity for them to gain subscribers(just like Hatton v Castillo) .

I don't think Setanta have Hatton anymore , he's a free agent and unless he signs with Fight Academy again there is no guarentee that's where his fights will be shown .

****** needs a mainstream network with cash. And Setanta were always going to invest heavily. Those lucky enough to be able to see the Hatton-Castillo build up will have noted Barry McGuigan, and several ex-Sky (and ITV) employees in the studio.
Sky are still bringing us events, and will continue to do so. ITV simply can't stump up the money to warrant Sports Network interest.
When ****** moved back to ITV we were promised 22 live Saturday night events per year. They've not even gotten close to that. Frankly, it has been awful apart from Calzaghe. Hatton will always favour the PPV channels 'cos he wants money. He split with ****** because Sky (through Hobson) would offer him personally more money as a PPV fighter. I don't blame him. (Queue the dangerous sport diatribe and short shelf life args)
Sky still offer the best coverage of the National grid of fighters. Johanesson tonight, which is great, but also, only Sky can offer us the likes of Hopkins, Margarito, Judah, Mayweather, etc.
ITV can't compete. They've no infratructure for PPV TV and will suffer. Shame, but true (I grew up on ITV boxing!)
With Setanta, its only a matter of time before they get more mainstream. And our national bouts will get good coverage if ****** is involved there.
Bring it all on, and lets see what transpires... :)
