Tough pick for me, personally. I wanna lean towards Jirov by a late accumalative stoppage.

I'd probably agree with you. Jirov had a very solid chin and was a non stop pressure type of guy.

And when he had to, he could box and counter pretty decently as well.

Jirov was really special back when he was a cruiserweight.

I think the Toney fight really took a lot out of Vasya; but Haye is no James Toney in terms of style or skill level.

Difficult one, Jirov is one of the best cruiserweights of all time. Probably Jirov, but very close fight to call.

hard to say...

Jirov, head to head, is a handful for ANYONE at cruiser, and I believe that if RJJ went up and challenged him, Jirov wouldve knocked him out.

But, Haye's size, speed, and power is exceptional and IMO has beaten a better crop of fighters at cruiser than Jirov had. I just wish we could've seen Jirov face other Cruiser titlists before he was wrecked by Toney.

I think Haye is about 6'3 and can carry 225 without much trouble, right? And he's obviously very muscular and strong. Vassiliy I think is around 6'2, and he could carry 215 fairly well-and from what I remember, for a lot of Vassiliy's reign, 190 was the cruiserweight limit. He might have been stronger even if he had been allowed those ten extra pounds-he was always a hell of a conditioned boxer, coming on strong as the fight went along.

James Toney IMO was one of the greatest CWs on a H2H basis. I think he matches up well with nearly anyone in the divisions history. Jirov-Toney wasn't as close as people make it seem.

Where is Jirov these days anyway?

This fight wouldnt have been too close. Jirov would have stayed in Hayes face worked his body and worked his head. David isnt much of an infighter and isnt that elusive. Jirov might have eaten a few on the way in and Haye certainly would have the equaliser to put him away but im leaning toward Jirov who had the better credentials as an Am and as a pro.

Those guys were pretty much in the booth and Toney owned him. It was also the best shape he`d been in for a LONG time. Im pretty sure Toney won fighter of the year for his comebacking performance.

Good fight, Jirov is as tough as nails, he hung in there with a prime Mesi and Toney, and was very competitive with Toney, in the fight of the year, and also had very close decision lose to Mesi, in a fight where he knocked him down and him hurt.

I see Haye getting knocked out around the 8th round, though Haye could lay him out with one punch, via Michael moorer, who has similiar one punch power.

I can see why people had it close due to Jirov's constant work-rate, but Toney was out-landing him with cleaner shots the entire fight, as well as either blocking or slipping a lot of Jirov's shots.

This is just an excuse to diss Haye and go on about how good James Steroid Toney was because he beat Jirov.

 I'm not dissing your precious Haye.. I just thought a matchup between the two would be interesting.

And for the record I might slightly favor Toney if he were to fight Haye at CW.

No, it's not. But Toney would have beaten Haye at cruiserweight by the way.

Very true. I always wondered about ledderman's score card.

On to the match up. I have yet to see anyone acknowledge that this is the worst possible style match up for Jirov. Haye's hand and foot speed combined with his length and reach would be a big problem for jirov. And when vasilliy tries to close the distance he would HAVE to be on the defensive b/c that right hand is very capable of hurting him and stopping him. And defense was not vasilliy's specialty.

I thought it was closer than the scorecards would lead you to beleive but the score cards were right. There was a lot fo close rounds but Toney was winning them. Unfortunatlly in boxing a 12 rounds domination and a razor close fight can look exactly the same on the score cards.

Marquez vs Barrera is another good example of what I am talking about. The fiht was very close but the scoring did not reflect that even thoughthe scoring was fair. Marquez was winning all of those really close rounds IMO

That's why this is such a hard prediction to make. Both guys have weaknesses that could be exposed by either fighter, but I chose Jirov mainly because I think he's the more well-rounded fighter, he has good punching power, good chin, stamina, workrate, was decent at attacking from different angles, and I don't think his defense was as bad as James Toney made it look.
