eff Fenech comeback?
By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing
Hall of Famer and former three-time world champion Jeff Fenech is rumoured to be making a comeback against Samart Payakaroon in a mid-June bout to be held in Bangkok, Thailand. Fenech, who scored a fourth round knockout over Payakaroon in a WBC jr featherweight title bout on May 8, 1987 in Sydney, Australia, last boxed on May 18, 1996 when he unsuccessfully challenged for the IBF lightweight title against Phillip Holiday losing in two rounds. Fenech finished with a record of 28 wins and 3 losses with 1 draw. He will be 44 years of age on May 28. Payakaroon will be 46 years of age on December 5. His record is 21 wins and 2 losses. Fenech would receive television rights into Australia which could result in millions of dollars.

ahh ... I was wondering who Mundine would fight next - I'm sure WBA will rank him at least 15 in their next rankings...

Well, he did get busted shop lifting so I wouldn't be surprised if he's blown his load, err wad, errr you know what I mean, he's gotta be broke!!!

And supposedly, he didn't initiate this contract, he was approached by the Thai's who still idolise their boy. Who'd blame him? I'd get in the ring at that age if I was going to get paid a million plus to fight another old timer and needed some extra dosh.

There have been plenty of other old timers coming back for the big pay days recently as well.

Im sure his high maintainence missus and the high tastes he is used to might be taking their toll on his wallet.

The Green breakup must of hurt his wallet to when it came to possible dollars made.

Fenech is abit of a goose but i kind of feel for the guy because he was the man that started the green vs mundine feud.It was really Fenech vs Mundine with green the puppet.

Fenech fucked up.

:verysad It's hard to comment when one does not know Fenech on a personal level BUT i can say this, he has been very helpful and supportive of me and the Australian boxing industry. Everyone needs money to live and the more you make the more you spend, if you can make a mill out of what you love doing then go for it I say :bbb

I'd watch it out of respect for what the man brought to Australian boxing. Sure as fuck he'd go at it, it'd be more entertaining than most of the fights Main event show.

Has Fenech been training? If he hasn't it's gonna be a long tough slog for him get in shape. The only fight i wanna see with Fenech is versus Mundine, you know Fenech has too much pride to lose to Mundine and he has the character to try some illegal, dirty shit to fuck him up. Should be entertaining.

Why not Jeff Fenech VS Tony Mundine??????

sjfou
03-12-2008, 07:44 AM
Has Fenech been training? According to Tszyu he was down 7kgs a month ago but didnt mention a comeback.

i was busy getting punched in the face at the time, did anyone see the ACA thing? I hate ACA, its a fear-campaign for housewives, but i would have made an exception.

3 years ago a Tassie promoter offered Tony Miller & Jeff Fenech a "Legend vs. Legend" fight for a $1 million (for Jeff) & Jeff declined saying he was a "millionare" & didnt need the $ - now hes stealing watches.

I think it will come down to Johnny Lewis - as a true friend, he wont let Jeff fight if his safety will be comprimised & he wont coach him. Jeffs whole career relied on him being a bulldozer & overwhelming his opponents - he couldnt do it in his last 4 fights & now hes coming back 6kgs heavier than his last fight...

Still, ill be there to see it! :thumbsup

lewis has already said he will do it, that's how much of a dog he is. if he had any respect he would tell him not to do it. not a brain between the pair of them.

Let me guess, you don't like Lewis because he said Green should retire and you don't like Fenech for all the obvious reasons Green related? You're too predictable. And i'm seriously worried for your mental health since you feel you have to come on the internet for the sole purpose of passionately defending someone elses name. Anyone says anything close to a derogatory word about Green and Shiner is on here in a flash armed with a pocket-full of hate to throw at the perpetrator. Get your own life you silly chump.

lefty i'm concerned that you can't make your own posts without living off my coat tail. guess your used to smelling someones hole all your life.

just to get it through your thick skull again- lewis has called about 10 world champs since his last, and none have made it. so facts are facts and don't try the st clair bull shit as lewis was never his trainer, he was asked to join the corner.

.... and fenech, well he does well enough making a clown of himself without any reference to green. I actually feel very sorry for the guy and still rate him as one of my idols as a kid when he was fighting. however to come back at 44? give me a break please if anyone thinks its a good idea they need their head read too. and as I said, if johnny was half a man he would tell him not to do it. all he is worried about is the $'s also.

Besides this fight being a farce, remember the WBC appointed Fenech as "boxer representative" late last year.

The position was created to help with issues such as the health and interests of current and past fighters, eliminate mismatches and fights that could be considered a fraud by the public. They are the notes from the WBC convention in Manila last year.

What message is Fenech sending to fighters he supposedly represents??? Even if the WBC have nothing to do with the sanctioning of this fight, Fenech is making a mockery of the position.

I love Jeff and honestly don't want to see him step back into the ring.. He is a sporting God and i honour his wishes if he misses boxing.. Fenech is someone who i want to remember as a champion .. He gives a lot back to boxing and i don't want his story to end up being a sad one..

God bless.......

I think its OK as the guy he is fighting is the same age....we all need another million dollars.

Next we will have Barry Michael and Lester Ellis jumping into the training ring and calling out Jeff.

Too late mate - 53 year old Barry Michaels has been chasing Jeff for decades & again called him out out last week. It was in Barrys column in the Herald Sun.
