Yesterday I watched a biography about Oscar de la Hoya on tv. It focused on his early days.
When his mother was dying, he made a promise to her: that he would win the Gold medal in the Olympic games. Two years later, he won the final in Barcelona. Oscar explained his return to the US, then how he visited the cemetery. It was very touching.
You can't hate a guy like Oscar. He's a role model, a life of success.

He seems like a great guy, and he is a warrior who has fought the very best without exception. He has been absolutely great for the sport of boxing as well. Every person makes mistakes, and we will never know what actually happened in certain contraversies, but i don't understand the hate either. The guy is a legend in the sport. Hearing how he overcame adversity, to become a superstar is absolutely inspirational mate, i totally agree.

Finkel helped pay for his mother's hospital bills when she was dying.
Of course, I highly doubt Finkel was helping with the medical bills out of the goodness of his heart and not thinking about what a cash cow Oscar would become later.

Oscar was the only American boxer who won the gold medal back in 1992.

I don't like how Oscar is inserting himself into another big-money fight with Floyd Mayweather. But I do respect his talent and willingness to fight the best. The guy has made it to the very top of the sport from a financial stanpoint and performance standpoint, which is a big accomplishment considering his humble beginnings.

CHAVEZ was still considered that MAN at 140 when DLH beat him.
Whitaker was the MAN at 147 when DLH beat him(check out the record books).:deal
THe only thing PBF has on DLH is that he is undefeated(at least officially, we all know about the first JLC fight) and the reason for that is simple. PFB is a better cherrypicker than DLH.
Had PBF's resume looked like this: Chavez, Whitaker, Quartey, Trinidad, SSM, Vargas, Hopkins and Sturm----his undefeated record would have disappeared a long time ago.
Meanwhile, DLH would more than likely be undefeated fighting PBF's schedule:deal

It was never confirmed that Oscar actually payed anyone off. Oscar has denied it repeatedly, as did his lawyers. People like to draw their own conclusions... so stop acting like it's a fact.
Also, it isn't as simple as you make it. When you are entire career is based on public image, it is sometimes easier to kick out some cash to keep something out of the media, even if it isn't true. You know how rape cases are... even if you are innocent, people act like you are guilty. However, as stated before... it was never confirmed or even reported by anything other than a few unknowledgable biased writers that Oscar had ever even payed anyone off.

March 18, 2000 -- A woman who claims boxer Oscar De La Hoya raped her when she was 15 years old failed to show evidence supporting her allegations and investigations by the Los Angeles police also failed to show evidence, rendering the case officially closed.
"No formal charges were brought to us for filing," Victoria Pitkin of the District Attorney's office said . A statement released by De La Hoya's office said, "We are pleased this matter has been dropped. It is unfortunate when anyone is the victim of such baseless allegations."

It was never confirmed that Oscar actually payed anyone off. Oscar has denied it repeatedly, as did his lawyers. People like to draw their own conclusions... so stop acting like it's a fact.
Also, it isn't as simple as you make it. When you are entire career is based on public image, it is sometimes easier to kick out some cash to keep something out of the media, even if it isn't true. You know how rape cases are... even if you are innocent, people act like you are guilty. However, as stated before... it was never confirmed or even reported by anything other than a few unknowledgable biased writers that Oscar had ever even payed anyone off.
What I said still stands though. Any whore who cries rape and takes a money bribe is a money hungry, lying bitch. I believe he screwed over Steve Mittleman and some other schmuck that trusted him as well. Someone paid for his mother's funeral, and he didnt sign with them!!!:smoke
It was Robert Mittleman and Steve Nelson. This was discussed in the book Dark Trade by Donald McRae (very good book by the way). Mittleman was angry and kept talking about how Oscar was a jerk and a phony. Nelson was nicer and said he felt bad for Oscar, whom he felt was stuck in a bad position in between all these people (i.e. Joel Sr) fighting for power and money. Nelson also got some money from DLH in a settlement, so that helped.
Mittleman ended up getting convicted of fixing fights.
