View Full Version : results like last night turns fans away from boxing
True story
pacman and his corner knew they lost that fight, seems like Christmas came early for PAC.
8-4 jmm won that fight

Nah, it wasnt like Marquez was bashing pac from pillar to post. I think JMM won but not really a robbery.
It was a great fight, im sure boxing gained some new fans from last nights action!
Marquez clearly won. How could one of the judges have 115 -112 in Mannys favour?
Totally corrupt.
Horrible decision.

All i will say is Pacman has fought 2 really close fights with JMM and i feel both fights were that close that i have No problem with the decisions made. And if this fight turned you off boxing well stop watching because i wish there were more fights like this one on a weekly basis.
As for Guzman he is still an overhyped stupid shit that hasnt faced anyone even in the top 50 in the World were as Pacman has now beaten 3 Future Hall of Famers.
Pacman will and if they fight Rock this overhyped little tyson by KOing him within 8 rounds.
Guzman has been hyped up on this board more than any other fighter ive ever seen. you are one that believes the hype. Guzman aint no JMM or Barrera for that matter and he will soon feel the pain when he faces someone of Pacman quality.

it was a close fight, i liked mannys superior firepower, and marquez looked like the beaten fighter in the end. add the knockdown and its not really controversial, and i havent read any boxing scribes so far calling it a robbery.
Are you moving away from boxing now?
I dont think that'll ever happen, but others have.
It does make me love boxing a little less. I'm not even a jmm fan but I hate seeing fighters get the decision when they quite clearly lost the fight

Pacquaio lost.
End of story.
The scorecard reading 115-112 for Manny was fucking ridiculous. If Pacman won it, it could have only been by a point and only on the basis he got a KD.As far as i Know the official result is Pacman won.

I would think fans would be turned off by such a decision. Good evenly matched fight but yet again J.M Marquez was ROBBED. Eight of us watched it with six being huge Pacman fans and all of us thought it a robbery!

I don't dispute the decision even though, I thought Marquez won ... it was a seesaw battle and they were going back and fourth ... I think in the middle of the fight Marquez easily banked those rounds ... he was knocked down but that didn't effect him alot, but it couldve influenced the judges from then on.
I mean the judges are human and they couldve easily been persuaded by the knockdown and agressiveness ...
114-113 Marquez ... I think if anything despite it being a split - the second card in favor of Pacquiao shouldve been closer ... if anyone won by a wide margin it was Marquez.
I think now Pacquiao is going to fight Diaz for that faux title.

Jmm has beaten pacman twice now. Both close, but pacman was quite clearly outboxed on both occasions.
He beat an old morales, I give him the barrera victories, he beat him. He's made his name defeating an old morales and a once prime barrera. He has lost both times to jmm.
What were you watching? Pacman was clearly looking like the beaten man. He knew he got a gift, that's also why he won't rematch jmm.instead he'll move up and fight a crappy boxer in David Diaz.

After a fight like that - at was pretty good - fans should turn away from boxing. The fight was that close - I had it 114-113 Manny - due to the kd.
This fight should make people want to watch more of Boxing - not turn them away.

Everyone who calls this a robbery isn't thinking straight IMO. I was rooting for Marquez, but i could see a 1 or 2 point advantage either way. It was close, it was compelling and it was just plainly a terrific fight.
Any fan who was turned away from boxing by anything that happened last night had no right to be considered a "fan" to begin with IMO.

It won;t turn anyone away from the sport - inexperienced viewers would have taken that Manny had done enough because of the commentary.
The only people it pisses off are neutral observers and hardcore fans of JMM. Actually, it appears most neutral observers thought the fight could have gone either way. Check out the various polls. Don't project.

fights like last night is what would bring more fans to boxing if they actually saw it.
last night's fight was great for boxing. you could argue who won or lost and the debate would be endless and guess what? all the talk is what interests people in the first place.
you scored the fight 115-112. you're telling me there wasn't 2 rounds that could go either way?
shut the hell up. i'm sick and tired of everyone saying the decision was a disgrace or a robbery! you can say jmm won. that's fine. you can say mp won. that's also fine. what you can't say is that this is a robbery or disgraceful decision.
member since 2005? 60+ posts? may i ask you if you are one of the guys that agreed to stay off for a month if pacquiao wins? just asking.
you scored it 115-112. that's fine. 2 judges scored it the same way. 1 for manny. 1 for juan. 1 scored it somewhere in between.
say that you feel juan won the fight. i can see your point. you have an argument there. but saying it's a robbery or disgrace to boxing? you're either blinded by bias or seduced by siding with a popular controversy or just trying to get people to react.
LOL I dont make stupid bets.
What's my post count got to do with anything?
I dont have any hidden agenda, I just dont like it when a boxer doesn't get the W he desvered.

4 times yes. 3 happened to take place in one round. That's just a very bad round. Doesn't mean a fighter should be discredited for it. He never lost the first fight.

Ha. And yes getting knocked down 3 times in any fight is seen as very bad in the judges eyes let alone it all happening in 1 round.
why should i or judges writers reward JMM for winning say 7 or 8 rounds in a fight were he was getting dominated in the 1st fight.
Im sorry but the more and more i watched that fight the more i seen closer rounds than what other people had it. yeah Marquez won more rounds than Pacman but it wasnt convincing like fans on here would have you believe.

You're projecting on me, actually. I didn't state an opinion on the back of it.
So, I'll put it in a simpler fashion for you:
Neutral fans are more likely to be pissy about a close fight that is scored unfairly.
Clear enough for you?
My, my. You're awfully sour.
You said that neutral fans would be turned off by the scoring, but in fact most of the posters here have expressed satisfaction with the decision, even if they didn't score the fight the same way. I'm one of those.
The onus belongs to you to explain how you view the scoring as unfair. Of course, you can't do that, because you don't have the grounds to make a solid argument.
Which was my point. Speak for yourself and back up your own opinion, rather than falsely insinuating that there's a consensus about unfair judging.

dipshit, do you know what robbery is in boxing? refer to katsidis-casamayor, now that is robbery. I can't really bother to explain to every moron like you just refer to the other threads. The fight was fuckin close had it 1 point for marquez, and could have gone either way but even though if i had marquez winning by a point or 2 and he lose it is not robbery, because it was close. Had pacquiao loss, there will be other numbnuts like you claiming that pacquiao should have won and was rob.
The fight last night won't turn people away from boxing, perhaps it will turn ppl with your kind of logic away from boxing and i sure hope so:lol:

You inferred I had said there was a consensus but I NEVER implied that at all. I said the result would only bother those neutral observers who felt it had been scored unfairly.
At no point have I said that every neutral observer would feel that JMM was robbed, i said that only neutral observers and JMM fans would feel that way. The casual fans and the Pac-fans won't give a shit because they will have viewed it simply as a really good fight.
For the record, i think JMM won it. But that wasn't replying to the thread's topic, i was simply stating that i don't think last night's result will turn anyone away from boxing.
Apologies if my reply was hard, but I don't like people misreading what i say then telling me what i meant.
Oh, OK. You are correct that I misinferred, then. My bad. Perhaps I'm a touch frustrated by all the robbery nonsense (:nut). Fortunately, cooler heads seem to be filling the forum today, which typically is the case.
I definitely agree that fans tuning in last night would be attracted to, rather than repelled from, the sport as a whole. Of course, the original post was another in a long line of emotional ones that lack a rational basis.

The fight was close and it could have gone either way after the 11th round, but I thought Marquez got the last round. JMM won by a point.
But could have the judges based the decision through good impression showing of who was the challenger and the champion? Well if I were one of the judges I might think Pac did well in challenging Marquez by flooring and wobbling the champion, the belt holder who I would thought trying to survive every round. If this match up was too close to call, who would you raise the hand as a winner?

You know, a draw is usually not a popular verdict because people want winners but i would have liked one here. No one would have cried robbery or controversy, and people would have focussed more on appreciating a thrilling fight between 2 of the best in the game.
On the other hand, boxing fans always find a way to bitch about a verdict when a fight goes the distance. In a mild way, i'm doing it here myself.
Still, i would just like to see more appreciating and less bitching in the boxing world, in general.

Bullsh*t! Its fights LIKE these that bring in fans! Good FIGHTS help the sport--who won and who lost [the decision] aren't the point; BOTH fighters won, in the sense that they'll get even BIGGER paydays down the road from this excellent performance!
You wanna know what turns people off? Sh*t like PBF-DLH, a $60 ppv with NO action, NO chances taken, and NO decisive winner of an exceedingly boring fight, and to top it off...a whole retarded load of stupid "24" promo nonesense; it is telling when the LEAD-UP to a fight is more exciting than the fight, ITSELF.
