From memory he was a 4x Aussie Champ, 3x State champ, Commonwealth champ & had 3 unsuccessful world title shots, a handful of FOTYs & holds a victory over Hall Of Fame member Paul Ferreri, retiring with a record of 46-11-4 (26 KOs)

Nah he'd be talking Aussie HOF and with good reason. Miller was a top fighter.

Didn't he go the full 12 with Jeff Fenech in his prime??

I didn't even know there was an Aussie boxing hall of fame, shows you the extent of my knowledge of the local scene.

Yeah he went the distance with Fenech prior to Jeff winning his 1st title. He fought on well past his prime but was still good enough to beat just about everyone on the local scene. His fight with Danny McGrail (Sherro's trainer) was an absolute ripper.

I think a bloke like Troy Waters has every bit as good a record as Tony Miller and he's not in the Aussie HOF.

Remember seeing a few of mad dog's fights live late in his career. The Mad dog monicker suited him perfect, was a real good scrapper.

Did he fight for a world title? Even once. I dont recall that.

Fought Michael Ayers for the IBO Lightweight title in 1999. Also had two unsuccessful attempts at the WBC International Featherweight title.

He lost to Fenech once in ams & once in pros - got knocked down in the 2nd but had his best round in the 11th. Hes probably dirty he there was a limit on rounds.

Ah those world titles.

Hes the first to say that were BS titles, but who'd say no to an expenses paid trip to Italy?

I guess you cant induct everyone into the HOF at the same time. I think its only been around since 2006?

Does Tony Miller belong in the Australian Boxing Hall of Fame? Good question!

Those already inducted from his generation are:

Jeff FENECH, Johnny FAMACHON, Lionel ROSE, Barry MICHAEL, Rocky MATIOLLI, Jeff HARDING, Tony MUNDINE (Snr), Hec THOMPSON, Paul FERRERI, Bobby DUNLOP, Lester ELLIS & Jeff MALCOLM.

From this group Fenech, Fammo, Rose, Michael, Matiolli, Harding & Ellis all won world titles. Mundine, Thompson & Ferreri fought for world titles (unfortunately all against legends in Monzon, Duran & Zarate respectively).

Does Mad Dog Miller belong in this group that's the question - my view, for what it's worth - is nearly, perhaps not quite.

mad dog was a warrior...no doubt. was thrown to fenech too early and never seemed to full fill his potential. ton of guts and talent though..

I agree SALLY. He was probably thrown to the wolves too early. He'd had less than 20 fights and they threw Fenech, Ellis & Ferreri at him in rapid succession.

If you were around in those days in Mad Dog's division he would have been a good fight to keep clear of.

Crash

Was the coach back then Ian Smith. Smithy is still coaching ams and held a successful tournament in Kwinana not long ago. I had 3 of my fighters on it. I think Tonys dad now tied up with the local footy club.

I watched quite a few of his late fights in Melbourne and he was entertaining and a hard boy.If there was a hall of fame for hard nuts hed def be in there. The prob is that all fighters in the hall of fame seem to win big fights where as Tony was galliant but never quite got there..
