Maybe it's the baby face, but although he's certainly a good young prospect, I'm just not overwhelmed by the long-term potential of Mares.

What do you guys think?

he destroyed gabi during the fight, but a live opponent would have told us a lot more.

Did what he was supposed to do with that opponent and looked good doing it. He obviously has skill but its early and I havent seen enough of him to rate the package.

Very promising young fighter. He was already very good and strong at the amateurs, and pro boxing is better for his style... Another talent in the lower divisions, could be the new Israel Vazquez or something. Great speed, good power, some defensive problems. He needs a few more fights though... but at the age of 22 he looks very good... He'll be ready for a world title in a year and a half... no need to rush anything...

Looks like a Mexican version of Amir Khan. Not in boxing ability but in appearance.

still too earlY to really say anything let the kid develop and graduate to fighting live bodies first before we evaluate

2nd round KO speaks volumes. :good

In the first round it looked like Gabi was gonna be too much for him but adjusted well. We gotta follow this guy's steps.

Gabi is just a fertilizer to mares resume.

What's in his favour? He punches straight down the tube! A good prospect!

I was just thinking that when someone posted a video of Khan earlier tonight, it took me a second to realize it wasn't Mares.

I'm all aboard the Mares express. I think he has fantastic potential. He throws very crisp and accurate punches, has some snap to his punches, is quick, has good movement, excellent counterpunching.....to just name a few things

I think Mares is quite impressive.
No need to rush him into a world title just yet.
Get him in with some tough fringe contenders to take him a few tough rounds.

With Nacho in his corner the sky is the limit.

gabi is not the person to test a guy like mares.

We know Gabi isn't a top-tier fighter; nobody is arguing that. All some of us are pointing out is how great Mares looks at this stage in his career. Fantastic prospect with a great trainer to boot

mares was the favorite coming in. but this fight was a total mismatch gabi moved up 16 pounds to fight mares. im sorry thats just too much to fast for the body to get used to so quickly, and it showed during the fight, he looked bigger and was getting the better of mares early but he tanked and look awkward after a few spurts
