There are 2 tremendous fights on the horizon.

Jermain Taylor vs Kelly Pavlik (Middlewt. Title) Sept. 29, 2007

and

Joe Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler (Super Middlewt. Title) Nov. 3, 2007

Which fight has the greater potential to be a classic that we'll all remember & talk about for years to come & why?

If Pavlik knock out Taylor it will be huge.

Calzaghe is damned, even if he beat Kessler he will not get respect
for that same as he did not get from beating Lacy. Is Kessler beat Calzaghe
people will come with plenty of recent examples of Calzaghe decline.

Both fights are EXTREMELY HUGE! Both have their own identity & will represent a signature win for each victor.

I am. It has been more than 4 years since the fight and people still talking about it.

From your list though I am leaning towards JC vs. MK.

Lacy was not a very good boxer. All power, no technique. It was a good win for Joe, but not a great win. Kessler dies not have that much vareity to his game. He's all just 1-2, 1-2, 1-2.

But a very good 1-2 I might add.

Lewis was out of shape. If he had trained hard for Vitali, it would have ended sooner. But Vit did a good job as long as it did last...against a fat LL.

You wouldnt say this about Lacy before Calzaghe fight.

If Kessler lose then it will be obvious how limited and lucky he was,
if Calzaghe lose then it will be obvious he was way past his best and
his recent oposition was "carefully selected" .. Calzaghe is damned!

But I did say that about the overly muscular non-skilled haymaking winger.

Don’t get too carried away over Pavlik.
He just KO'ed a fighter with absolutely no boxing skills, besides a hard punch and the ability to move forward.

Well, at least its a decent pic of that slapping fool!:!:

But I am carried away by Pavlik. Very much so. I think he's awesome to watch. He's a very intelligent fighter with one thing in mind...move forward & never stop punching. He ambidextrous you know, really a left hander fighting orthodox. See's his openings & takes advantage of them well.

Probably )hopefully) BOTH! Especially if the Taylor-Pavlik winner ends up moving to 168 and fighting the Calzaghe-Kessler winner!!!

Man, could you imagine if that happened in late 2008/early 2009?

These are the kind of fights/possbilities that get me excited!

Why wait so long for the winners of these 2 battles to meet?

Summer of '08!!!

PAVLIK vs KESSLER...

OMG!:yikes

(But I rather see Kelly pound Calzaghe into retirement)

I think Americans will talk about Pavlik's Ko of Taylor for years, and the Euro's will talk about "if Joe's hands weren't hurt, he would have beat that Kessler".

If Pavlik beats Taylor up in convincing fashion, Which I dont think will happnen, will be huge in the U.S. He will become the face of boxing in the U.S. Trust Me

OK, fist of all - both are good fights.

However, one is a fight between two fighters that are undisputedly above the rest. They have both been champs for years. The expected crowd (60.000) is unworldly and the hype surrounding the fight is at an extreme level.

The other fight is between a fighter that beat two great fighters against a new untested but promising hope. also they are not undoubtedly above the rest in their division. AA definitely has a better claim than Pavlik currently. If Pavlik beat Taylor he will have the better claim, but so far we are not dealing with two outstanding champions clashing.

It can only be JC-MK out of these two and I don't think it is really fair for JT-KP to compare their fights because the Pavlik fight is a really good one, but not exceptional. Just look at Taylor's fights - he alone has had plenty that would exclipse this fight. But an interesting fight it is.

In the US, Taylor-Pavlik
In Europe, Kessler-Calzaghe

If you talk casual fans I agree - because they tend to look at nationality to see who they should cheer for.

For boxing fans it has to be JC-MK though.
