ok i want this to be a serious thread on who you think the Aussie top ten list should be and look like. Now thos means any fighters to fight as Australians.

now if your list is different and maybe there are a few Mundine fans out there that want justice go for it. but thats my list in terms of talent,accomplishments and Personality.

Being so young its hard to compare the eras.

Maybe Darcy considering he's 'truly' aussie!yeah Darcy doesnt get talked about much on this board becuase not many no about him.

but from what ive read about him that the USA wouldnt let him fight because they new he wouldnt take dives or throw fights which was common back in the early 1900's. Even some boxing experts and writers of boxing thought if he was able to fight in the USA he wouldnt lose.

so they didnt let him fight so then he died of Pnuemonia because he couldnt afford to feed himself properly.

McGoorty who was a former Middleweight champ said later on in his life that Al McCoy was great but that Aussie kid Darcy was tougher.

id say if Darcy was aloud to fight in the USA he would have more than likely beaten Al McCoy aswell as the great Harry Greb. i truely believe that because he had a chin of granite.

actually.. from the list above

picking up the 'a-z of world boxing' right above my head

the only one to get a mention is rose. (the fact he won the title at 19)
dunno if that's counts for much.

I would have a prime Fenech number 1.

Carruthers and Darchinyan a bit higher on the list.

I would have Famechon scraping in at number 10 coz I always felt with Johnny that he had a bit of luck on his side and recognised his limitations.........very evasive, but couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding.:good

I think you have to have Mundine on their to. I have a feeling he will be a lot higher up that list by the end of his career.

I like Harding, but I think people are over rating him a little here.
His wars with Andries were entertaining, and made him known, but none of them proved to be dominant champions.

I'd have Darchinyan well ahead of Harding, even at this stage of his career.

I'd have Darchinyan well ahead of Harding, even at this stage of his career.the reason i had Harding in there was he fought Andries 3 times and won twice aswell as just losing to Mike McCallum and i mean just. and also he killed Chris Tiozzo.

He was good Harding and has had more title fights tham Mundine aswell as Darchinyan.

I love the Hitman.

People shouldn't underestimate Harding. 2 wins over Nestor Giovannini, wins over Tiozzo and Andries (epic come from behind in the 1st and gaining revenge in the rubber match in London!).

Les Darcy did not die of neumonia he had an infected tooth that poisened the blood and that is what cuased it.

Mate i totally agree with you. Orfords kicking game is terrible. Im all for playing Monaghan at halfback im pretty sure thats the only way were going to win the grand final this year. We just kissed away the minor premiership last night what a bummer.

Yep Dave Sands is at least top 5 in my opinion, maybe even no 1 if he's career wasn't cut short. Green and Briggs are not top 10, for example i wld have a bloke like Troy Waters in front of those 2 and he's probably top 20/30 at best.

Lester Ellis defended his Commonwealth Title against Scottish Champion Robert Harkin back in 1988. Ellis stopped him in the 4th round. Ellis was a very hard hitter and had fast hands, why did he make a comback in 2002.

He didn't mate, Anthony Mundine lured him out of retirement for a good payday.

Tragic really, it's come to light in the years since that Ellis has battled the bottle for many years and was apparently still drunk when he fought Mundine.

Mundine paid for him to be ringside at his previous fight and jump in the ring and challenge him :-(

I understand Lester Ellis's young son is now Boxing as an amateur, do you know if he is a promising young amateur or have seen him Box, or even heard good things about him friend.
