View Full Version : Andy Lee tonight?

Is Andy Lee fighting tonight against Brian Vera? And is it being shown on TV? They sometimes put the Irish fighters on some of the obscure channels.
This could be a good test for Andy. Vera comes with a decent record of 15-1-0 with his loss coming in the contender series. He looked way too short to be in that show at super middle. Lee will prob come out a stoppage victor but I hope Vera gives him a few back.

doubt it , BBC Northern Ireland cover Duddy because he's Northern Irish , Lee is from the Republic so they wouldn't show him and I doubt BBC Wales/Scotland etc will so this won't be shown by the BBC .
Although I did hear 5 will broadcast it , which isn't much surprise as I believe they normally show ESPN fights(delayed of course) .

I'm really glad I'm not Irish.
They had 3 unbeaten guys that they were really excited about 6 months ago...
Dunne and Lee both stopped, and Duddy looks like total sh*t... and all against 3 average opponents
That's pretty bad. But funny.

We've still got Macklin. Dunne got caught cold. Duddy had a shit night but looked sensational against Yori Boy... Jamie Moore is still British champion. Good times for Ireland.

Yep people always seem to forget Moore. I hope he gets his chances this year, I would seriously rate his chances ahgainst Spinks.
Macklin should beat Yori and I would love to see a match up against Duddy, that would be a great all Ireland shiwdown between two guys who can give the fans a great fight.

Lee isnt done yet, just needs to train hard, get a gameplan for each fight and stick to it...
Duddy will battle on
Dunne may well be done though
Macklin is European level but exciting all the same
Cant wait for him v Jori Boy tonight

You practice and you'll get the hang of it. English is anywhere in England. Irish is anywhere in Ireland.

So you're saying Macklin's mum is Irish. I'll give you that.
I thought you were talking about Matthew Macklin himself. We're obviously talking about different family members.
I was talking about the boxers, Matthew Macklin and Jamie Moore. They're English.

I know nothing about Alex Stewart, don't even know who he is.
My knowledge of Lennox...
he was born in England and lived there for a few years, moved to Canada, then lived mainly in America.
So he's split over different places, in this case you'd have to respect what the man says... as far as I'm aware he says he's English.
And I'm not an expert on Henry Akinwande
Was born in Africa somewhere I think, don't know when he moved to England, don't know what he claims he is...
But in those two cases you have some amount of split nationalities, with Macklin and Moore there is no if's or but's... They're English boys, born and bred.

Actually Macklin didn't live his whole life in England , he would normally spend 3 months+ a year in Ireland and has 2 Irish parents not one .
So while Moore is definitely English , the same can't really be said of Macklin .

I've heard Macklin talk, a lot, and he's got a Brummie accent. I find it hard to believe he's spent any time in Ireland growing up. No signs of it as far as I can tell...
And, again, I'm talking about the fighter - not his mum and dad, they're not throwing the punches. Macklin is a Brummie.

the guy spent all his summers in County Tipperary and Lee spent his in Limerick. As a junior Macklin played county level hurling for County Tipperary - not exactly an achievement attained by your usual boy from Perry Bar/Hall Green etc

exactly - I've never heard Moore mention he was Irish or considered himself to be Irish.
As for Macklin - he considers himself Irish, poosibly holds an Irish passport.
It not Irish people "claiming" them - its about them claiming to be Irish - and as far as I am concerned if you wernt born in Ireland but have Irish blood and say you are Irish - then you are Irish - its a diaspora thing - some might not get, but they are probably either young Irish people that have never even lived abroad or the are BNP type Brits that cant handle anyone (especially a white guy) thats doesnt identify their nationality along the same lines as they do.
Anyway - enough politics and bullshit - lets talk boxing!

Having seen Duddy v Smichet, Andy Lee's last 3 bouts, and Macklin v Campas.
None of these deserve to be champions. Duddy has little to no skill, slightly better than a punch bag. Andy Lee does not know how to fight in close or tie up and opponent, Macklin is just plain ordinary. It will have to be a very poor middleweight division for any of these to become champions !!!

Darren Sutherland will make a very good pro middleweight in the near future .
The Olympics(should he make it there) will be his last involvement as an amateur and I think his style will be perfect for the pro game .
I could see him getting to European level at least .
So while all of Duddy , Macklin , Lee and Sutherland mightn't turn out to be World beaters , surely one of them will do something..............I hope :p

I saw him at the Nationals and wasnt overly impressd with him but he could be a completely different fighter at pro

Not really , he only lost by a point(on the buzzer) to James De Gale in the last qualifiers in Italy . De Gale went on the win the silver medal at that tournament(he might have won gold if he had contested the final) .
Sutherland will be favoured to win a medal in Greece(gold , silver and bronze all make the olympics at middle in the European qualifiers) .
I'm not saying it'll definitely happen but it looks like Sutherland will make the Olympics .
I don't reckon he'll do much there though , he'll be much better suited to the pros .
