vera was hitting him on the head but it was indeed a bad stoppage.

Bad I would say yes, but Lee was clearly out of it.

The stoppage, seen alone and out of the context of the entire round looks bad. Lee was eating right after right after right and was not punching back prior to the stoppage.

The stoppage was really bad, Cotto could have already 2 or 3 lose with that kind of referee.

Anyways, I think we should try to not OVERRATE or UNDERRATE fighter based on one fight. Lee got beat tonight but he can easily come back and be champion one day, he is only 23.

The stoppage was a bit pre-mature, but taken in the context of rounds 4-7 it wasn't that bad. From round 4 on the only way Lee stopped a Vera right was with his face. With nearly a minute left in the round he would have been down before the end of 7 anyway, and you can't fix brain damage!

alot of people are saying 'well yeah if the ref had allowed it to continue lee would have been ktfo' ... as boxing fans we cant say this,did corrales not come back from a muchworse beating to castillo? lee waqs still in there and throwing good punches and had vera on queer street 5 seconds before,for us to guess what would have happened is wrong and it is us who were robbed,we were robbed of a potential great fight and andy lee was robbed of a potential W,all props go to vera though for showing a true warriors heart a sticking to a gameplan very well.all hate goes to the referee for being an incompetent prick.

While I'll Admit. That The Stoppage When Called Looked Premature Cause Lee Was Starting To Punch Back. A Few Moments Earlier I Had A Friend Saying They Should Stop The Fight. Cause Lee Was Getting Hit Alot. The Stoppage Came Late But A Good Call Imo.

Lee's reaction was interesting.

I would have thought he'd have complained. I also would have thought Manny Steward would have complained.

That fact neither did - and Steward accepted the stoppage as legit - says a lot, surely?

Lee's a true fighter, and would've kept punching well past the point of permanent damage. It also looked like his tank was empty, no real offense left to hurt Vera, no defense left to protect himself. I think the ref knew that. Look at Vargas after Tito, one great fight for the rest of your career. The kid just got in over his head fighting the wrong fight, could learn from something like this.

Rematch has already been agreed for July.

The loss- in the end- may be good for his career. And if so, the timing of the stoppage may be even better. Now, he has a chance to throw away the press clippings, focus on some conditioning, some defense and some infighting ability. Vera was right, Andy can be outmuscled. Still, and thanks to the timing of the stoppage, he will get a chance to redeem himself.

The stoppage might have been mistimed, but I'm wondering if it was in Lee's best interest. You'd hate to see a prospect's career get derailed in what ultimately amounts to a meaningless fight, and Lee was getting tagged and was showing very little defense.

I think the problem is the ref chose a poor time to stop the fight, not the fact that he was ready to stop it. Even Steward, author of the notorious "He was drugged' theory, said it was an OK stoppage. His guy was getting slaughtered.
