What rules?

Silva I guess, because he's the P4P champ in the UFC, but to be honest, I dont see boxing gaining any popularity from this, and what would happen if by some off chance RJJ gets knocked out or it's a closer fight than expected, then boxing turns into a big joke to some. I just dont think it's a good idea, there's little gain in it for boxing and could turn into a bigger risk when you start having guys in there like Jones, who's well past his prime, and is starting to show a real unstable chin anymore.

What rules?

Roy Jones would only fight boxing and he would call the shots.

If under MMA rules, then the MMA fighter goes to the ground, and it all over for the boxer.

If under Boxing Rules, then the boxer would more likely win...look at that YouTube film of Tommy Morrison throwing correct punches on the big Pool Hall fighter and it is quickly lights out for Mr. Budweiser.

I don't think Roy would risk his chin in such an exhibition, but I doubt if an any equal weight MMA fighter could beat Jones under Boxing Rules.

In a muay thai/kickboxing match Anderson and Cung Le would beat him, especially Le in a San Shou match. He beats Chuck in any kind of standup fighting though.

In a boxing match he schools them all.

In an MMA fight they all school him.

I never said Roy would get knocked out by Silva, but why take that chance if you dont have to? RJJ is expected to win/dominate, so where's the gain for boxing? A little publicity, maybe a decent paycheck for Jones, but is it worth Jones possibly getting caught with something fucking around/show boating like he always does, I dont think so personally, but I guess everyone sees things differently.

Doesn't really matter he wins every one of those fights.

Honestly, I think Jones would whoop his ass. But I wouldn't want to see this. Silva should fight Jackson and move up. Or fight St. Pierre in a catchweight. Jones should fight Taylor or the winner out of Hop vs Calzaghe. MMA is done I'm sorry, but all their star got there asses whooped. And they need some type of promotion. Kimbo is the only true attraction. But I respect Couture, Jckson, St.pierre, Lesnar, and Silva

Lesnar and Kimbo are sideshows, not the main attractions. That's like saying Bob Sapp and Zulu were Pride's main attractions.

The UFC still has great fighters, guys like Anderson, GSP, Randy, Rampage, Penn, and Fedor. Other orgs as well.

Sideshows :rofl , Ijust don't like the sport. I tried to get in to it, but it just not the same ass boxing. I rather watch Winnky vs Bernard and Whitaker vs Anthoney Jones all day. Then that shit, but I do look on the internet to see results

Whitaker vs Anthony Jones was a very good match, as were pretty much all Whitaker fights. He was not a boring fighter. The Hopkins/Winky fight on the other hand was not a great fight to watch at all.

You need to watch the right fighters in MMA. Anderson is never boring.

I have UFC 1-32 colection, but I just can't get into it. Whitker was a great fighter but he di have some boring fights. But one of my favorites was when he foghtthis guy from England. Jones was commentating and both were 1and 2 P4P. tHEN wHITAKER WAS about to knock dude out in the 12th. That was exciting

Under boxing rules? This doesn't make much sense. I can understand Roy not wanting grappling involved. I would like to see Roy vs Silva in a stand up striking match, with all strikes allowed. Punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and clinching.

I'm a fan of both sports... UFC has a PPV coming on 4/19, the same night as Hopkins vs. Calzaghe. I would not be surprised to see the UFC dramaically outsell HBO on that night

Manny's fight last week was considered a big deal in boxing circles, I think I read the numbers were 250K PPV buys.... UFC 71 did near 1M buys. In 2006, the UFC put on 10 events and averaged over 500K each.

Boxing had a great year last year, that needs to continue. ODLH rehashing a fight with Mayweather is a joke and only serves to hurt the sport.

I'm a fan of both, but to say "mma is done" is pretty foolish. Boxing wishes they had the numbers hat the UFC is pulling.

I know UFC is rapidly growing.......but surely the fact that the money in UFC isnt even worth comparing to boxing purse money....which leads me to believe that its still got a long long way to go to catch up with boxing...even if boxing is so called 'dying'. Top Boxing matches pull millions of $ for the champions, were top UFC matches pay out in thousands of $...doesnt that say it all? Or is it just the promoters ripping their fighters off and keeping it all to themselves? I dont think so.

If a top UFC fighter fought a top boxer under MMA rules then they will easily win. Same on the flip side.

If this fight does go ahead, it would seem that the popularity and technical aspect of boxing lays in Jones hands.. or chin... If he was quoted saying there no technique needed in MMA, then he's gotta destroy Silva within 2; hes beat many people by first round KO, so why not a guy with 'no boxing technique'.

Im a big Jones fan, but i dont wanna see this happen; its just a ridiculous idea IMO. Jones should fight the winner of Tarver Woods, so he can reinforce himself in the light heavies

He should fight Matt Hughes in a boxing match. That should shut the MMA fans up :Dthat would be funny as hell. seeing poor matt get his head pounded in. these debates are a bit crazy without lots of training in the sport you will lose. the only reason a boxer may stand a better chance is they may be able to catch the MMA fighter with a quick shot. other than that MMA beats boxer in a cage, boxer beats MMA in boxing match. imagine what GSP would do to someone like Calzaghe in a cage.

It would be interesting to see an elite boxer fight under k1 rules. Some boxers have done ok in k1, and they were not boxing's best.

Boxing's best are still making too much money for them to risk such a thing. That's why you have fighters like Mercer, or Botha, trying after their title chances are gone.

Actually Manny's fight is way over 400,000 and counting, just to straighten the facts thats all.

One of my buddies was telling me that Roy Jones has a black belt in some martial art - but didn't know what the style was. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?
