Did he have the strength and style to beat him even in his prime?

He no doubt had the strength and style to give him HELL, but to beat him? I don't know. It's hard to pick against Armstrong in a fight that will ultimately boil down to a battle of wills. I see Armstrong doing enough to get the win. But it will be damn tight.
Good match up....

Good match up....I'm asking it in a sense that Jack seems like a fighter that could outmuscle and overpower Armstrong, which would make it hard for Armstrong to work his game. Kind of the way a lot of people see Dick Tiger posing the same problems to a lot of the great brawling/swarming MW's, including Harry Greb I've heard a few times.
Based on style matchups, I think it's quite possible he could. Do you think Armstrong would just be a busier puncher?

I don't think so. Armstrong was destroying full blown welterweights in his prime often giving 10+ lbs away. If they couldn't out muscle and slow down a prime "hurricane" I doubt a 140lb Jack would have done.

I think so... I pause in saying that though because Jack was pretty indefatigable himself if you could not hurt him. I'm not entirely sure about whether Armstrong will hurt him bad enough to discourage him.
On another front, Calroid maks a good point with regards to Armstrong being able to barrell through bigger guys, and so at 135 in particular, Jack's strength probably won't be enough to overpower Armstrong for long enough to get a winning result.
