Props to Joe. But This needs to be his last fight at 168. If he beats
a great fighter like mikkel kessler. Then I think the winner of hops/winky
would be forced into a corner to fight Joe.

I'm not giving him a damn thing. The man built up his record by beating up a bunch of cab drivers in front of a partisan crowd. He was damn near 34 before he decided it was time to fight a legit champion(of course the fight had to be in England). After finally beating a top tier fighter in the division, J.C follows it up by fighting a decent Bika, and a glorified club fighter named Manfredo. I'll tell you what though, if he beats Kessler he derserves alot of credt. However, I'm not about give him any props for finally fighting a couple of legit champions at the tail end of his career. And before any J.C fans start getting on my case, just realize pretty much everything I said is 100% true.

Props to JC for taking on the young challenger.
Props to Kessler for fighting his 3rd title holder in the SMW division.

Too little, too late. He could have done so much more. Even now he could choose to turn it around. But will he?
I got doubts.
I will give him respect as the best SMW if he wins. But as for his willingness to test himself against the best or attempt to clear out the division? No. He has been one of the worst for that. One or two good fights wont erase this fact.

I really hope he doesn't go to the States. With twats like the guys above, they don't deserve to see him. I'd rather him stay here so I don't have to fly to that hell hole anyway. Let him take HBO's money and let people like the above guys pay for that, but keep him here!:good
Joe Calzaghe has nothing to prove to anyone who has followed his career or the SMW division in the last 15 years.
Props to Joe, he's finally stepping up to the plate. Forget about Hopkins/Wright/Taylor, Kessler is the biggest threat.

IMO both Kessler and Calzaghe would butcher Hopkins or Wright.
And as much as I think he's a twat, Mundine would pose both of them (Wright & Hopkins) trouble too.

Oh come on the excitement of SMW must have gone to your head! Outrageous statement! Mundine might win the first round or two if he's lucky.

Hopkins truly picks and chooses when he fights. Mundine is fit, and fast.
Wright, well, I'm not convinced that above 160 he'd do too well.
Both of these guys couldn't beat Taylor (insert 'but they wuz robbed' here).
That's enough proof for me. And neither are big bangers to really check Mundines chin out. Mundine is very quick.
And I didn't say he'd win. I said he'd give them trouble, and I still think he would. Hopkins is what, 41 now, not 31. At 31, he wouldn't have problems. At 41, youth and speed can start to take it's toll.

How many top level opponents have Winky and Hopkins faced and beat? Now compare that to how many top level fighters Mundine has faced and beaten. No comparison.:deal
Hopkins is 42, and when was the last time he faced anybody under the age of 37 and beat them?
Tarver was garbage in their fight. Absolute fucking garbage.
If Hopkins could back in time even 3 years, I'd agree with you. See how looks against Winky first. (even though Winky is fighting 10 pounds out of his weight class....)
Winky is a better fighter, and has better pedigree. I agree 100%. But like I said, I have doubts about him fighting above 160. And even fighting Hopkins won't prove much.
Both guys fighting at 170 is just like fighting at middle without dropping the water weight. I bet at fight time, they're both pretty close to what they were as middleweights.

at 31 roy whopped bhop i reakon he has gotten better with age.
if mundine went all out and had no fear he would beat any 1 but because he is to scared to get hit i think he might struggle against world class kessler, calzaghe etc. if he threw as many punches as calzaghe if they fought choc would beat him
If Mundine went all out against a big hitter he would most likely get KTFO.

oft well thats you won the argument then :thumbsup
fact is, in the past 10 years the only big fights out there for Joe Calzaghe where RJJ, Hopkins and Ottke. Roy Jones fought 'tomato cans'. Hopkins and Ottke never even acknowleged Calzaghe. When have you ever heard the words 'Joe Calzaghe' come out the mouth of B.Hop? Never. He ran away and made money from blown up welterweights, with a 20 defence record every bit as mediocre as Calzaghe. At least Calzaghe's best opponents where natural Super-middleweights.

I think Joe is going to school Kessler, just own him. He's too fast and MK is too robotic.
Kessler's one chance is to continuously fire the jab to try to hang Joe up for the right hand. Even if he does this, it might not be enough, but IMO, it's his only chance.

Little Reg,
You obviously know very little about JC and his career.
Are you aware that he has box and defeated 5 former world champions, Brewer, mitchell, Reid, Eubank to name but a few?
I'm not going to further waste my time replying to this post.

It's crazy stuff really. Even when Hopkins asks for 3 million pound to fight Calzaghe and then doubles his offer when the 3 million is accepted people think it's Calzaghe ducking him. Hopkins then jumps, not one, but two weightclasses to beat the mighty Antonio Tarver, people still think it's Calzaghe's fault!!

is there any proof on hopkins wanting the double, or is it just ****** talking??It is something ****** has forever mainntained (he usually gives up on his lies after a few years) and has never been denied by anyone associated with Hopkins nor Hopkins himself.

in a court of law, you would be trown out and laughed at, by the homeless bums standing on the court stairs, if this logic was to be used..:hey
if this is the reasoning for claiming hopkins ducked cal, im just shaking my head.. and thinking no no..
a guy like hopkins who has been chasing a rematch with rjj and while rjj in his prime, and yet its claimed that he ducked joe..
just the thought of grown men swallowing ******s gospel as the truth makes me wonder...****** only bends the truth, he cannot afford to flat-out lie. He states Hopkins increased his demands as though it is a fact. There is at least some truth in it.

I see some Calzaghe fans are upset with me. I just point out the facts. If you noticed, I never once said anything to diminish J.C's skill level. I pointed out that before he beat Lacy, he never beat another beltholder(Eubanks was for a vacant title). Someone pointed out he beat 5 former champions. Well I'm glad he can beat fighters who used to have a title. Someone also tried to compare him to RJJ. Well Roy was a unified LHW champ and fought pretty much every legitimate threat at LHW except Michalczewski(and he wanted Roy to come to Germany). If J.C beats Kessler then he deserves alot of credit. However, I'm not about to start praising the guy for finally facing some top tier guys.

Plus he fought a top 5 guy in Eubank and pre Eubank he was scheduled to face another top 5 guy in Collins. Now he is facing the second undefeated prospect to his throne.
This fight undisputably ranks him as the greatest 168 pounder in history.
Then he needs to go to 175 like X did. Icing on the cake. A fight versus Wright or Hopkins would be the final thing to really put him up there with the best P4P fighters.

What other top class fighter around the weight was going after him when he was basically unknown/not respected for years?
Please! Calzaghe was ducked by Ottke and several other frauds, he clearly beat guys who Ottke got gifts against and Americans were by no means going to fight him when he brought no money to the table for nearly 5 years, everything changed when he annihilated Lacy because boxing fans knew who he was and what he could do internationally.

Absolutley, look at what a total bitch it was to get Palle to agree to terms, they absolutely couldn't get Taylor and Dibella to agree and they used the excuse that they are staying at MW...
Well, now they're moving to SMW!
Now, when Joe wasn't even respected or well known, how the fuck does he get top named yanks to fight him?

You just fell into the trap of saying exactly what us over here thought a yankie doodle dandie would say!
To say he bet cab drivers is a bit much, go and look at his record, he beat 90% of the division's best, in the divison he is in. He could have done more to fight fighters at lower or higher weight, but why should he when they are not scrambling to fight him at the time!
You my friend, are a joke
