View Full Version : Were you ever a Vargas nuthugger?

I always thought the guy was a fraud, and didn't have the goods to back up his huge mouth. Watching Trinidad, De La Hoya, and Mosley destroy El Fer-Joke-O have been some of the most satisfying moments of my boxing fandom.

If I had to pick between the 4 KO/TKO loses, I would have to pick the Trinidad beatdown as my favorite, for a few reasons:

1. 'Nando was still undefeated, so all his 'huggers were at
full strength, thus at their most-deluded about Vargas'
"greatness." The best 'letdown,' if you will

2. It was a sustained, multiple-knockdown, systematic
beatdown. You got to see Vargas slowly get crushed,
minute-by-minute, unlike the two brutal left hooks that
Mosley landed just crushing FV

3. It was to a Puerto Rican fighters, the last thing any
Mexican or Mexican-American fighters wants as a 'L' on
their record (and, no, I'm not Puerto Rican)

4. It 'ruined' Vargas, so it was the beginning of the end of
the myth of FV

Your thoughts? You favorite FV KO loss? Or were/are you a FV 'hugger?

I wanted to like your thread and laugh along with you at Vargas, but "Fer-Joke-O"? That's the worst attempt at a name joke ever.

Thanks. Before I try another one, I'll make sure to check with you first, as you would appear to be The Judge Of All Name Jokes.

Good thinking. One at a time though.. 2+ jokes on the "El Fer-Joke-O" level would just be too much brilliance for me to handle in one message.

I understand, and will work within your limits accordingly.

Let's get some visuals to get us pumped up for Margo-Williams:

So hang on, fans. You'll only have one more chance to see the great Fernando Vargas like this, when Ricardo Mayorga plants his skinny-fat, couldn't-beat-DLH-on-'roids behind firmly on the canvas.

I have never been a fan of Vargas, but he was holding his own against Trinidad and Dlh before being broken down and taken out late. I think he is done now, I hope Mayorga ko's him.

I can proudly say I've always disliked the guy. :good Probably because in all his big matchups I've always been a fan of the other guy, so he's always been the 'villain'. And the more I know about him, the less I like.
