Taylor Chavez is one of the most popular controversial fights ever.
Alot of more controversial fights go unheard of all the time
Trinidad/De La Hoya has to be up there

Ali-Liston of course. Maybe by a mile.
You also have LaMotta-Fox (the only fight to have been found a fix under oath) and Fitzsimmons-Sharkey (fixed by no less a person than Wyatt Earp!).

Lewis v Holyfield. A scandalous decision of epic proportions.

pacquiao marquez I: one judge only marking round 1 as 10-7 rather than 10-6, costing pacquiao the win.
barrera juarez I: one judge decides after it's been called a draw that they've not added their card correctly.
both highly controversial.

Ali demolished him in the next round and made him look stupid in the return bout. Ali is a true champion.
I think Chavez vs Taylor I was very controversial.
Leonard vs Hagler wasn't.

Chavez-Taylor I Bad stopage but there is no way Richard Steel could have known exactly how much time was left.
Whitaker-Chavez Whitaker was clearly the better man in this fight.
Hagler-Leonard I scored it 115-113 for Leonard.

Dempsey vs Tunney and the long count followed by Clay Liston and the phantom anchor punch.I agree with Tunney v. Depsey. I might also add Willard v. Johnson...although most agree it was on the level including myself. Other candidates could be Seldon vs Tyson (2 phantom punches) and Lewis Holyfield I.

griffith paret and mancini kim are for obvious reasons
I never understood the logic behind dlh trinidad oscar being the bigger attraction, bigger money maker, in las vegas, and kicking titos ass, to get robbed??!?! at least dlh sturm makes sense, dlh hopkins couldn't have happened without oscar winning.
taylor chavez was messed up and sad, I think nhe was OK to go for 3 secs its not like hed have any worse brain damage if he didnt have it already, but he didnt respond to steele cause of lou duvas stupid fat ass jumping on the ring ropes trying to athletic old as he is.
chavez whitaker also sucked for pernell, julio got lucky twice.
hopkins taylor pissed me off, taylor just throwing looping haymakers all blocked by bhop, getting the crowd exited over nothing, with hopkins landing the more subtle, yet effective shots but all anybody cares about is the nonlanding power punches.
though pryor owned arguello in the rematch, on his offcycle, i think he automatically shouldve been DQd in the first.
jones and park si hun was wrong too, but its been explained, and roy learned the valuable lesson of not letting the fight go to the scorecards when your in another country, fighting the local favorite, showboating in front of the judges in an amateur boxing match.
Question: Why was Ali Liston contreversial?

I agree
can you imagine if that fight would of been scored for Holyfield
the sport would probably be government regulated by now.

Not the most contraversial but one of the most disgusting refereeing in history was Benn vs Mclellan......
Benn having been put through the ropes and taking Forever to get back in was techniclly KOed (by standard boxing rules) then the headbutts mclenllen repeatedly PLUS when Benn was put in trouble the referee was grabbing and pushing around Gerald when Benn got an easy ride of things iwith his constant cheating....this fight unfortunately made a once great fighter that had a win over roy jones in the ametures into a cripple....
Benn did what he had to do to win....fair enough
but in my opinion if anyone ever seens the referee of that fight i beg you to cause him harm.......I will personally pay money to punch him!!!

I'd say Chavez-Taylor I. There's just no way to justify that bs stoppage. It was a case of a monumentally bad decision on the part of the referee. Taylor was royally robbed.

Chavez - Taylor I
and a lot of pre-war fights. There was one where the ref actually had a lot of money on one of the fighters. In the fight both fighters threw a punch and went down simultaneously, and the ref helped one of them up with one hand while counting out the other fighter with the other hand.
