Not intentionally, of course. And the guy has been top notch with Johnson's family since. A class act all around since he began to take boxing seriously.

Yeah, I heard. Unfortunately that is part of the sport and people die sometimes. I don't think most fighters try to kill their opponent though.
I read the article and I dont know..don't think its my place to judge the guy. It's easy to point the finger like the author and say "He's a bad person" when we don't even know him and aren't perfect ourselves.

The author (who posted here a while back asking people to buy his book), mentioned that Chavez's biography was completely biased in the sense that his friend attempted to portray Chavez as a hero. Well, his article was basically at the other end of the spectrum. He tryed to make Chavez look like a disgusting human being. Yeah, no bias there buddy:-(

He needs to take that shit to karmatalk.com or something. It was basically his personal, skewed perspective on how karma should deal with Chavez. Nevermind that Chavez turned his life around AFTER paying his social dues for transgressions of his youth. Basically, he feels that Chavez has not paid enough, I guess.
The fact of the matter is that Chavez commited crimes in his youth, paid the price, and matured as a man. This wasn't a guy who rose to fame and used his newfound financial clout to cater to his boyish whims. No loud, thuggish entourage, etc. The guy scrapped his way into contention and was humble/low key the entire way. However, That's not good enough for this "boxing writer".

The last paragraph is comical in that he is serious:
Although Chavez, after a lengthy four year struggle, was able to obtain United States citizenship and go on to capture the IBF lightweight title in September of 2005, his selfishness and lack of respect for his family makes it hard to root for him. And while I don't claim to know Chavez personally, nor do I know the type of man he is now, I am a firm believer that karma comes back to bite those who abuse their gifts. Chavez is favored to win Friday night, but his dreams of capturing another belt are farfetched. 35 year old lightweights usually are not successful (though Nate Campbell and Joel Casamayor, both in the latter half of their thirty's, have been on recent hot streaks), and because Chavez acted up so much earlier in his life, the firepower he does still have will likely come up short against today's top lightweights.
Nevermind his age, injuries, etc. He will fall short because he misbehaved when he was young. Yes, Ladies and Gents, Santa Claus' list will come into play.
Let us re-write that paragraph a bit more accordingly:
Although Horgan, after a lengthy struggle, was able to publish his shoddy work on a major boxing web site, his selfishness and lack of respect for his subjects makes it hard to root for him. And while I don't claim to know Horgan personally, nor do I know the type of man he is now, I am a firm believer that karma comes back to bite those who abuse their gifts. Horgan will likely be published again, but his dreams of ever being taken seriously as a boxing journalist are farfetched. Incoherent, Subjective pseudo-Journalists usually are not successful , and because Horgan acts up so much now, the journalistic prowess he does still have will likely come up short against today's real journalists.

I agree with you 100 percent.
I'll try to email the guy or find a way to contact him. He sounded bitter throughout the entire article, like he had it out for Chavez. And he's implying that karma will come back to bite Chavez in his quest for another title. Give me a break. I really don't know where to begin, but the fact BTalk has it up is a disgrace.
It sounded like holds smoking pot in the same regard as killing somebody. Who cares if Chavez smoked pot?

It was ridiculous that he continued to cite the pot smoking...and weight gain. Keep in mind this was prior to him undertaking boxing as a profession. Once he did, he was the consummate professional.

By his criteria, most people in America are bad human beings.

This guy has an irrational dislike for Chavez. He's a true keyboard warrior with no respect toward the fighters whose heart and willingness to risk it all give his lame ass something to write about. Disgraceful and not worth mine, or anybody else's time.
He's posted on ESB before. I hope he reads this.

I was reading through his myspace page and I gotta say - for being his age, I respect his ambition and love for the sport.
That article, however, is irrelevant to boxing and ultimately serves as nothing more than a proclamation of his immaturity. Should his journalistic career take off -and, being honest, I hope it does- I don't think this is an article he'll look back on fondly.
Get some life experience under your belt before you go expounding your strong beliefs on karma and what not...

I'm really surprised that such a major boxing site would even publish it.

Shit. That is all it takes to be a 'boxing journalist' eh? For all his talk condeming the use of pot his own ideas seem pretty half baked themselves.
Also... what sort of asshole applies for a driver's licence. That is just disrespectful to his parents, his family, and his sport.

Well, I did just enough reading to find out the author of the article apparently believes that reading boxrec daily is enough to make you pretty much an expert on the sport so yea... pathetic is a pretty accurate discription I think. Actually, apparently the criminal records of boxers are pretty important too. My bad.
