I just read on a boxing site that Julio was offered a fight against Berto on the undercard of pavlik/taylor. He turned it down. That would have been a pretty good fight but looks like julio is scared.

That's what I thought too, initially. But now when I really think about it, it wouldn't surprise me if Dibella was offering Julio little money for the fight. A few months back, Carlos Quintana was offered a fight with Berto (would have been Berto-Quintana this month on ESPN2 instead of Rivera), and Dibella was quick to come out saying Q turned down the fight. What he didn't mention was he offered Quintana next to nothing for the fight. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case here. Dibella offering chump change to opponents, knowing they'll turn down the fight (the money really), to make his own fighter look like some feared monster in the process.
But Quintana is supposedly going to face Berto sometime down the road now that Dibella apparently has some promotional rights to Quintana. Go figure.

Oh please the money thing is just an EXCUSE because I remember Julio fought Cosme Rivera on Telemundo or some shit like that. I know for sure they ain't paying more then a Berto fight on Espn!! If Julio could barely survive against Cosme Rivera then he's gonna get DESTROYED if he fights against Berto.. Him and his people know that and they wanna milk his career and get all the money and hype that they can before it gets derailed.

Exactly and how do some of you know Berto would take Julio out when he's been the ring with bums. Julio could take him out too.

You guys need to learn patience..they are both young fighters that can build themselves up and meet later. You can see that being a fight a year, two down the line..At that stage of both careers guys like that dont meet up. God damn hypochondriacs or however you spell it. Big fights need to be built up over years. The best dont fight the best that early..sometimes I wonder if anybody here as ever watched boxing...

Berto is still a nobody so its normal that people are turning down fights with him
doesnt mean they're scared

I'm not sure he's ducking him, could be an interesting fight though. I think Berto wins it.
Joel Julio has a leaky defense. Berto would capitalize on it.

I read that too. That would've been a good co-feature. Julio's defense is really suspect, however, and he might've gotten disfigured by Berto. I think Julio should just angle himself for a title shot with Cintron. That's his only shot at a belt at 147 right now, otherwise, he should just move on up to 154 where he'd get a lot of opportunities.
And Berto's what, the next Winky?
What site was this?

Berto-Julio is a fight that has too be made. I would love to see these two young prospects face off.

Too early in their careers. Both these guys will probably meet at Junior Middleweight in a couple of years.

Reading somewhere that a fighter turned down a fight with someone doesn't mean they are ducking that opponent. As was pointed out in earlier posts, it could be a money thing, a scheduling thing, etc. Or it could just be one guy talking stuff to make his fighter look good. Sometimes we as fans are too quick to accuse somebody of ducking.
