View Full Version : So Does Margarito Get Credit Tonight if He Wins?
Tons of you (mostly Floyd fans) said he was ducking Williams, and that Williams would expose him, and you know damm well who you are even though we dont have the old threads.
So tonight if he dominates PW does he get credit? Or are you going to continue with your new line of bullshit, that it proves nothing?

If he gets by Williams convincingly, it will be a very solid win and sets up the unification with Cotto quite nicely. Him beating Williams does not automatically mean he will beat PBF, as they are vastly different styles. The Margo Nuthuggers will say diffirently of course.

You cant hate on an underachiever ..it dont work like that..he gets credit for the win he needs redemption after getting his ass whooped the last fight though he got the W in the end..we all watched him get his ass whooped and he did not do anything to clottey. How can you hate on boxing's nobodies..lol...This is his first big fight that is getting any attention..he better show up or it is curtains....

Your reputation on this board as an idiot is well deserved.
Margarito a nobody? Your a typical idiot Floyd fan who hates on other boxers to build a case for Floyd.
You can give me a reason why Margo is a nobody, Cotto is unproven, Hatton is a joke, etc. But in the end its all about your insecurity about what would happen to Floyd if he fought them. :hey

so sick of you margarito fans
margo gets little credit because the people he fights are low risk low reward
except clottey who was medium risk no reward and margarito still got outclassed for 6 rounds before clottey got a hairline stress fracture
margarito should win tonight, hes older more experienced ,
if he does well done but hes the favourite aswel

Full props to Margo taking this fight and honouring his title. It is a very risky fight IMO,but should he win he deserves all the credit and respect.Having said that -I believe Williams will win by late tko or decision.:thumbsup

If and only if he dominates. If Paul brings him a war, and Tony wins it in spectacular fashion, I'd finally be willing to justify having him as a top ten welter.

Of course I'll give him credit. I think Williams is a good fighter and a Margo win isnt a given. it is a winnable fight for Williams.

First of all, Im not a Margo fan. I like Cotto and Mosely far more than Margo.
What I dont like are the contradictions on this board. If you were reading a while back, people were bashing the shit out of him for not fighting Williams. And on top of that, saying Williams style was all wrong for him etc. So my only question for these same posters is wheter they will man up tonight if he wins decisively.
My answer so far is no.
Ill give him a ton of credit. Williams is no joke and Im picking him to win.

He'll get credit but I won't be sold on Margo until he beats someone like Mosley or Cotto. Williams is really nothing more than a prospect much like Cintron was when Margo beat him.

3 things:
1) I fucking hate the Margo hype train
2) I am not, and never have been a PBF fan.
3) I don't think Margo will win, but if he does he gets plenty of credit from me.
Actually, the more I see of Margo, the better I think he is. In terms of ability he deserves his shot at the very best but in terms of what he's done he isn't there yet. What he does actually have though, is a VERY in-depth resume of very decent wins, without any A-/B+ grade fighters being on there yet. He just never brought anything to the table in terms of prestige, until maybe his win tonight.
I just fear Margo has had to wait too long at his shot at the big time - it's easily possible and it happens to too many fighters.

I never asked for this fight. It's a good test to see if Williams is all hype or ready to enter the elite, but I never felt it was one of the important make or break fights at this weight. I much would have preferred to see Marg give Hitter a rematch or do whatever it took to make the Cotto fight, which is the one truly unbiased fans were clamoring for all along. :good

But he is a prospect which is 6'2, at welter, with a ton of potential and I think you know that.
He has no resume, to speak of. Yet his physical tools can give most in the division hell, stylistically most would stay the hell away from him and for good reason. Margo is stepping up to the plate first, so I give him full credit for that.

I would love nothing more than Margo vs Cotto. I see a Cotto win, and then it would be on to the winner of Floyd vs. Hatton. (or Mosely).

hes stepping up because its a career high purse and he will lose his belt if he doesnt
margo without a fake wbo belt is even more worthless to the big names than he is now

I'm just now putting in a prediction for Margarito (took a long time to make up my mind on this one!), but I give him full credit for this fight, win or lose. If he does win, he should be mentioned for the big fights along with everyone else. Williams would not be pushover for anyone.

He is stepping up, period. :deal
I could give two shits if he stepping up because he promised a 2nd cousin somewhere in Tijuana who he is romanticaly involved with that he would take the fight.
What is the tendency on this board to never give credit, for anything.

i mean how much credit do you think he should get i mean he is clearly the vet in this case....Margo's resume is not loaded of course he has two Prospect fights one in which he barley won but agian it was againt fighters who also themselves havent done much just very good up and commers much like the fight tonight....Williams is loaded with POTENTIAL but thats just that potential...this is Williams biggest fight to date he himself hasnt even done anything.....
BUT i can say this Margo is slowly but surely stepping the resume up though so i cant knock him for that.....ultimatley his toughest challenge will be Cotto...i think he beats Cotto...and there is no reason he doesnt get all the respect he needs!

I actually see Williams winning this fight tonight. I think he has the tools to win a 12 round decision. This fight reminds me a lot of the Dawson-Adamek bout where the younger and not as proven fighter beats the rugged, experienced, favorite by using his size, speed, and athleticism. Either way its a very good fight.
Having picked Williams I would have no course but to give Margarito credit for winning tonight. I would actually put both guys down as top 5 contenders right now. Whoever wins, to me, will have secured a very nice win. I also give Margarito credit for beating Cintron(who I thought would also beat Margorito) and another win over an undefeated highly ranked contender looks that much better for Margorito's resume.
Good fight between two of my top 5 welterweight contneders. The winner should get nothing but credit for tonight. Williams by decision.

I'm kinda ignorant about Margo, except for the few fights that I have seen of him, an Ok pressure figher, strong smart and tough as nails. Paul williams I know even less about. The names on both of there records does not send shockwaves down my spine. I really don't know who's for real. So I can't really give either high praises, to much hype and propaganda for me.

What makes him a nobody is that he has A never been in a big fight B is the most unknown welter with the least exposure C nobody gets his name right. they call him marcarena or margarita. D he has defended his title and won it from complete and total bums. E Cotto has way more exposure and has outshined him for the longest time. F as I said before his biggest fight was on espn against cintron. G after the clottey fight the hype was over and he was in no mans land. Not one article or thread written about him. H he is a wbo champ and has never been recognized as the welterweight champ ever....he never attempted to unify and he got beat up on by santos which i happend to catch that fight when it aired and I thought oh..he is a tough bum.. A bum that can take a mean punch and keep coming. I thought he was fighting for his life which he was against santos..that is pathetic. That you have to go all out and be a crude slugger b/c you got outboxed by a c level fighter...sadddddd:rasta:rasta:rasta:rasta:rasta

If margarito shows me something different and actually out boxes williams and shows that he has skills rather then relying on swinging for the fence all round every round and just taking punches. Then I will give him his credit.. If he gets another crude mayorga style when where it is slop bucket and he still cant box. Then he is what he is a crude boxer that cant box but can only brawl. Which is a one dimensional fighter..period..nothing special

Yes, he gets credit, but he still gets thrashed by any elite fighter in a brutal manner regardless of tonights outcome.
But if he wins, I'll personally congratulate Antonio.
Yeah, he's one dimensional. But one intangible is intelligence.. Intelligence along with a good chin seems to be what has set him appart from other one dimensional fighters. Have to admit, this has all the ingredients for an exciting fight..
