On the main page of ESB today, there's an article about a fight in the works between Shannon Briggs and Andrew Golota.
Who do you think would win?

Briggs by first round KO or Golota by decision. Briggs is a counter puncher and extremely heavy hands, and with Golota's slow reflexes and weak defense, that doesnt bode to well for him. Golota still has power in both hands and has showed in his last fight, that there seems to be alot of toughness still in him.
This really is a 50/50 for me, Briggs might be one of the best first round knockout artists of all time, with 60% of his wins coming by first round knockout, and we all remember him seriously rocking Lewis before getting knocked himself a round or two later. If Golota can keep his composure in the first round and not get caught standing flat footed, I see him outboxing Briggs to victory, but the first couple rounds should be scary for any Golota fan out there.

I think Golota would stop him sometime after the end of the 3rd round, since Briggs will already be gassed by that point.
There could be an early KO for Briggs, but Golota's stamina is much better. If Golota can survive into the 4th round, he'll win.

The fight will be interesting to say the least, Briggs is a very dangerous fighter, he did what a good puncher in Brewster couldnt do, with less than 1/20th of the effort, that is knockout Liakhovich. I honestly dont know who will win this match, we have all seen Golota fall apart early in fight to powerful punchers, Briggs is currently one of the most powerful early round fighters, this to me doesnt look to good for Golota, but if he could weather the hurricane of a storm early on, then yes, Golota will win the fight, and quite possibly stop Briggs later on in the fight when Briggs is using an inhaler inbetween rounds.

Fightnews says that Briggs will probably fight Walker, then Mollo. So, who knows........
But I think Briggs Golota makes for a great fight, and a big boost for the winner.
It says that Golota really wants the fight, and I gotta commend him on going right from a nobody like Mollo, to a fighter with the power and experience of a Shannon Briggs. Ballsy move for Golota, if he's really pusuing this match.
As Punisher said, its a pick em fight, but I am leaning towards, well...... not sure. But if Briggs can finally get his stamina (asthma..LOL) to where its good enough to fight a full fight at a decent pace, Golota is in for trouble. But then again, Golota is a very hard puncher, himself, and may catch Briggs, as well.
Great matchup; one of the more interesting and potentially exciting matchups that I've heard of, lately. Let's hope it happens.
I hate to go against Golota, as he's one of my favorites, but I think I'll lean, slightly, towards Briggs to beat Golota via late TKO>

Golota actually had talent, Briggs never did-but god knows I could care less if these two fought now.

Briggs did some "ducking" back a few years ago I posted several posts on it about two weeks ago incidently.

Briggs has a ton of power, and is good counter puncher, stamina is his biggest enemy, and always has been.

You are right. I am switching to the Foul Pole to win by decision, as he keeps up a good workrate down the strech, while Briggs stands flatfooted and huffs and puffs.

:blood I hope your not betting on this fight either way Heavyrighthand, this is truly a 50/50 type fight. If you look at it in all angles, it really is hard to pick a winner. On one hand you have Briggs, extremely powerful, good counter puncher, horrible stamina, Golota- power in both hands, pretty good stamina, slow reflexes, freezes up when hit hard, especially early in fights. I think what it comes to down to is, can Golota get through the early rounds against a big puncher like Briggs? If hurt, can he recover or even fight back? Will Briggs come in at a lighter weight so he can still be dangerous if the fight carries into the later rounds?
I think these are just a few of the questions that need to be answered, this would be a fight I would love to see, theres rarely a dull Golota fight, the only one I could remember off hand is fight against Ruiz in late 04, which was clearly not Golota's fault.
I would have to pick golota late in the fight or decision

Golota is 40 years old now so it's hard to except too much outta him:-( but i think he stiill beats Briggs who has Asthma and has a pitiful workrate, Golota at 50 would still probaly throw more punches than Briggs..
I think Andy stopps Briggs when Shaanon collapses from exhaustion somewhere around the 7 th round..

I am kidding. I have no idea who i think will win. Too close to call.
I was amazed that Golota's early coverup defense worked against Mollo, though. He seemed very stiff and just held his elbows down at his side, while Mollo went to the body.......I think Briggs would be able to penetrate that. Briggs would quickly go to the head, and Golota would have a time keeping Briggs from landing, somewhereBut if Golota did manage to withstand his early swarm, I think Golota would coast to a win. Or, I would not be suprised to see Golota pummel the exhuasted Briggs, either. Golota is very heavy handed, and certianly has power that can drop Briggs, in my opinion.

I can't believe people are picking Briggs to win this. He can't fight after 5 seconds of throwing punches.
Golota by decision.

werry close call. Golota will take it if, he can survive storm in early rounds and not get hit by Briggs fast counter shots in later rounds. If I would have to guess I would take Briggs by first round KO.
People are overrating Briggs' power. Don't get me wrong.. he's powerful, but Golota's dealt with more skilled fighters that were just as powerful.
Golota jabs his head off to a UD.

That could hapen.
But
remember how Briggs knocked out Lyachovick. Same Lyachovick who taked everything what one of the best punchers in heavyweight Brewster throwed at him and keep fighting. And Briggs have proven hes punching power in countless other matches too.

I hardly see Golota get KO'ed by Briggs. He seems soo tough and experienced now. His chin seems to be ok and he just wouldn't quit even if he got stunned as with McBride and Mollo.
I see Andrew putting constant pressure on Shannon and with his good stamina and high workrate winning UD or stopping him late.

Briggs needs to retire and do boxing commentary because I think his mouth is his biggest assest at this point. I won't be surprized if he doesn't lose to Mollo! Mollo is a tough guy and Briggs has no interest in fighting eally beyond 3 rounds, its all about if Mollo can weather the early Briggs storm.
Golota is the kind of fighter that I think would put Briggs into retirement. Golota is fighting smarter than ever and once Briggs was unable to stop him in a round or two, then Briggs would start to tire and start doubting himself. Golota would then start unleashing his trademark combination punching and jab. Golota would cruise and probably stop Shannon.
