You hear it occasionally in General about Roy Jones, "he was the head to head pound for pound #1" or something. Okay. He probably is a fine example who was ultra dangerous at a given weight (168) regardless of what he did or did not achieve there.
Who are the head to head threats from history at other divisions?
Can there be such a thing as a "head to head pound for pound #1"? Is that a phrase that appeals? Or is the whole thing a bit twilight zone?

"Head-to-head", "Pound-for-pound", "All-Time" is really stretching the conceptual paradigm to breaking point.
However, it's not as implausible as Harry Greb having actually existed.

Some great picks here.
Tyson though...that's a can of worms I don't really care to open but he certainly wouldn't be my pick.

This is often the domain of fanboys looking to blow their talented but flawed favourites exploits out of all proportion.

You said it right.
Remember guys recently trying to tell everybody that Williams was better than Hearns head to head

i dont really wanna list the obvious ones like liston or ali......but when i have fight scenarios in front of me i tend to favor gene tunney over a lot of people actually. i think he is vastly underated in terms of h2h talent

Gene Tunney is a hard to pick against between 175 and about 200, that's for sure.

Nothing wrong with any of these Sweet Pea. How do you see Hollyfield faring at 200 v Dempsey, Marciano, Langford, Charles, Louis? This is a bit of an ambush, I know, but your opinion?
Why no pick at 160?

Why no pick at 160?160 is too stacked.
I'd take Holyfield's versatility to win in bouts with Dempsey, Marciano, and Langford.
Charles and Louis are tougher calls, though I feel Charles was at his best at 175. Louis I may have to think about.

I'm going to name one in line with not having accomplished bugger all in a given division but being rather dangerous H2H, to say the least
Roberto Duran at 140
:yikes

Julian Jackson needs to be mentioned here. He did slaughter Terry Norris.

Sugar Ray Leonard might be worthy of a mention. He has a great h2h record for one thing. He also had great physical assets, skill and versatility. He could box his opponents and turn into a stalking puncher as well. Of course his best weight was also SRR:s best weight, which might be why he hasn't been mentioned.

Did we forget PBF at 130?i dunno floyd was a bit of a show boater and as much as he was dominant he wasnt the defencive master he was later in his career. he was defintly quicker though and used all his natural talent.

as good as he was a puncher...he could be horribly outboxed he lacked any backfoot knowledge. and in a perfect example he was getting totally outskiled by norris before that fearsome 3 shot combo.
it's strange becuase i felt that norris could be a better head to head fighter than jackson.
he had amazing handspeed with great combo's and pwoer with it. could counterpucnh on th ebackfoot had a good defence. . he was an underdog in his first winning streak almost althe way through mo blo, leonard, mugabi, curry, daniels were all betting fav if not they had a good chance of winning and he almost stopped them all.
mayb ethe most versitle fighter i have seen any style he could pull it off
sadly the 9 losses on his record dont reflect this:lol:

Nice to see Leonard getting some praise. He was as close to the complete Welterweight as you can get fundamentally, plus had tremendous fighting heart and a very solid chin too. Obviously Robinson and Armstrong will be mentioned too right up there (quite a lot put Robbo #1 at WW).
To say that Leonard upon fighting either of 'em would be anything other than very competitive would be very innaccurate. They'd all be very close fights indeed.
