Who were the great fighters who had miscelaneous styles?
For my own part I see a lot of fighters in the period from 1890-1920 who dont really fit any category partly due to being pioneers.
I cant find anythig remotley like Bob Fitzsimmons stylisticaly for example.

Jimmy Wilde. Jersey Joe Walcott has a very interesting way of boxing. Has anyone seen Joichi Wajima box? He looks freaky.
Your original pick, Fitzsimmons is perhaps the definitive choice, but he also demonstrates the tallness of this particular order - if someone were to call Fitzsimmons a counter puncher, I wouldn't paticularly object.

But if they called him a boxer or a slugger, or even a boxer puncer you would not see it.

Carlos Monzon comes to mind. Vitali Klitschko, too.

Surely Monzon is a box-puncher? Klitschko is a terrified-puncher.

Mike McCallum's a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none.

jerry quarry...reasons as thus.
he was a counterpuncher a boxer a puncher and a swarmer at different ends of his career. yet you could never say what type of fighter he was i cant say he was a boxer but i couldnt say a puncher as he was much smarter and slicker than that. boxer-puncher maybe but i dont think he is that muhc of either if you knwo what i mean.

Except Vitali Klitschko is not a great fighter. Not even close. This title is "great fighters"

The others mentioned sort of vacillate between different styles, but Eubank was just stylistically...weird, which makes it even harder to predict how he would have faired agaisnt the likes of a prime Jones or Toney. I defy anyone to pigeonhole him.
(btw Jones himself said the only guy he felt was a real threat to him in his prime was Eubank.)

Shane Mosley? He wasnt a boxer, desptie moving fast like one, rarely used the jab besides a measuring stick (although when he did use it to actually score it seemed to do well), packed a good punch, but definetley couldn't be considered a puncher, could string 5 punches together as good as anyone but fought in spurts to much to be a swarmer maybe? But again, Its not like he was always on the front foot.. An underrated counterpuncher as well.. :-)
Best explanation is from Manny Stewart a "Trapper" is what he called Shane.

oscar de la hoya has boxed various ways. he though is a master of boxing and countering behind his left hand

Tyson.
His pressure wasnt constant enough and his inside fighting was too lazy to be considered a swarmer. He was too technical and too fast to be considered a slugger, and he was never on the back foot enough to be considered a boxer.
tyson was a first class puncher. so he should be classed as a great puncher at least. I consider prime him to be a very powerful attacking fighter

I've always found it difficult to describe Emile Griffith's style. Mainly due to the many facets it possessed. The likes of 'Craftsman', 'technician' don't seem to tell the whole story.
