RJJ doing OK.
Into Round 5 - Roy laying on the ropes a hell of a lot more, covering up rather than slipping punches, showing signs of the old Roy
Caught Henshaw with a few uppercuts, throwing the straight right hand.
Henshaw is a pretty damn good boxer though, if Roy wins, he deserves some credit.

twenty1
07-14-2007, 11:20 PM
Round 7 - I have 4 rounds to 2 so far, for Jones Jr
Jr continuing to let Henshaw come in, happy to potshot the right hand on occassion but still not following his corners advice to throw more combinations.
Roy on the ropes again, Henshaw pushing him back into the ropes, now working to the body better, Roy deflecting the majority of the headshots, but the bodyshots hitting
Henshaw now up to 30 seconds with Roy on the ropes, firing combinations without Roy slipping off and away
Henshaw continuing to throw as Roy walks off of the ropes, Roy hasn't answered too much in this round.
Henshaw again brings Roy to the ropes, smothering him, throwing more and more bodyshots to Roy, making it harder for Roy to guard - Roy firing two wild hooks on either hand, missing.
Henshaw taking that round pretty easily.
4-3 to Roy.

Roy's corner telling him he's got a good chance, Roy looking over at his father to get some advice from "Big Roy"
Again Roy showboats to the crowd just before the Round starts
Round 9 - Henshaw again backing Jones Jr up to the ropes, Roy trying to work uppercuts on the inside, using the guard defense, Henshaw continuing to pressure Roy, working to the ribs then upstairs, mostly glanced.
Roy starting to double up on the left, Henshaw backing up, Roy following up with some combination punching as the crowd gets on the feet
Roy Jones Jr of old, jogging to his opponent, trying to land the big right hand, Roy stalking forward, Henshaw firing some counter hooks, Roy catching them on his gloves.
Roy landing a glancing left hook, backing Henshaw off again, Henshaw continuing to paw out with the jab, backing up this round though after several good shots landed by Roy.
Roy now daring Henshaw to come forward again, perhaps looking to land another counter on the inside
Henshaw not as trigger happy due to being nailed, Roy catches him coming in with a straight right hand, then tries to land an overhand left, missing completely.
Roy starting to stick and move like Roy of old, but still allowing Henshaw to dictate where they are in the ring.
Easy Round for Roy.
5-4 to RJJ.

Roy has the handspeed, but he's a little more hesitant than he used to be, he's not triggering the combinations he used to do.. too much pot shotting
I also wonder if he's lost a bit of his power, cause his punches aren't stinging when they hit
Round 10 - Jones Jr again with his back on the Ropes, making this a very fight to score, Henshaw again smothering Roy Jones Jr on the ropes.
Henshaw got a right hand through the defense, Jones Jr almost woken up by it, firing back a few combinations, now backing Henshaw against the ropes but not throwing the punches
Lead right hands by Roy Jones, landing 1 of 3.
Henshaw now again with Roy against the Ropes, Roy landing a couple of counter hooks to the body, but again not following up with anything more.. Henshaw again smothering Roy against the Ropes
Roy smashed him with two big hooks, then followed him, sprinting after him around the ring, Henshaw falling down from previous punches.
Roy now back to his cocky showboating self, stalking Henshaw but still not throwing as much as he should.
Jones Jr again back against the Ropes as the round ends.
Big Round for Roy Jones with the knock down, may have given him the win
Woohoo!

what did roy say in interview
Senya13
07-15-2007, 12:13 AM
1st judge was completely blind. 3rd judge was the closest to truth. Beautiful counter-punching skills by Jones, while about 80% of Hansho's punches got stuck in the block.
Last round Roy won big, he threw about 30-40 power shots and nearly all of them landed clean, 100% accuracy.
Senya13
07-15-2007, 12:42 AM
You don't win the rounds by aggressiveness, you need it to be effective - to score with clean punches. Roy blocked, slipped or rolled with most punches Hansho threw at him on the ropes, and countered with plenty of crisp clean shots to the body and head in all rounds except the 1st. 7th and, possibly, 10th rounds were close, but again Roy's counter punchers were cleaner and sharper, whereas Hansho's punches to the head were mostly blocked or rolled with, only his punches to the body scored cleanly, but then again Roy landed at least as many punches to the body and head, or probably more in each of these two rounds. The rest of the rounds Roy clearly won.
Senya13
07-15-2007, 01:26 AM
No, it's just that I pay more attention to punches that land cleanly and punches that land or get stuck in the block, and I'm keeping a count of clean punches as I watch the fight. If you wanna say that was effective aggressiveness with Anthony Hansho, I think you should read more explanations in the books or articles that give hints how to score the fights.

Damn straight. Roy was just getting in rounds for the most part and Henshaw almost never connected with anything but Roy's arms. Roy pretty much hit him with the right hand at will and backed him off every single time he would get too smothery on the ropes. We can all argue about whether Henshaw was a tomato can or not and whether he was a legit challenge, but this fight was by no means close.

Wow, can't wait to see this on youtube. Nice round by round also, this is a great win for Roy as he won against a good, undefeated, young fighter.
I'd say it's a pretty damn nice win and keeps Roy in the game for a while longer.:good

Good fight, would've liked to see Jones throw more, but that's not going to happen. In his last few fights, he hasn't thrown enough punches & allows his opponent to put him on the ropes. As a Jones Jr. fan, it's aggrivating when he's in that position. Yes, he was blocking most shots, but he was rarely winning while against the ropes.
114-113 Roy Jones Jr.
Senya13
07-15-2007, 05:33 AM
What are you talking about, what 10-15 punches per round? Watch the fight again and count Roy's punches in any round (except the 1st, that one belonged to his opponent, absolutely) you gave to Hanshaw, where did you see Roy throw so few punches? Clean punching belonged to Jones, in almost all rounds, and mostly by wide margin, his punches were both spectacular and effective, and usually looked as harder punches.
Also, if you saw Hanshaw landing clean jabs, then we surely were watching different fights. I saw Jones landing jabs here and there, most Hanshaw's jabs either missed or Roy parried them the way he always does, with his right hand. Hanshaw didn't throw that many punches to the body, except the 7th round, that one was close and I wouldn't object if anybody gave it to Hanshaw.
Defense works to not allow the oponent land many clean punches, that's exactly what happened in almost all round. It is irrelevant whether Roy stood by the ropes or not, when you are considering the defense criteria, it's about punches that landed and those that didn't, your comment about Roy not countering doesn't make sense, how is it related to defense?
Ring control - Roy didn't object against staying at the ropes, except for the 1st round, he was damn good while staying at the ropes as he didn't let Hanshaw land many clean punches and countered him with his own punches, it wasn't situation that allowed Hanshaw to be effective, so it cannot count in his favor. You gotta look for Hanshaw creating situations where he did good, only those count for ring generalship.
Senya13

Can't read 4 paragraphs, each consisting of 3 lines? Now I understand how you counted only 10-15 thrown punches for Roy in most rounds.

I thought Roy did good when he was against the ropes.... Many times Hanshaw had to back off because he was hit so hard...I thought Roy blocked most of Hanshaw's punches when he was on the ropes, and was really active in firing back. The knock down also came from Roy being on the ropes and capitalizing.... I thought it was a very clear cut victory for Roy Jones Jr.
He should still retire because he is not the same... He would kill Trinidad though! Im proud of Roy, thought it was a very solid performance from a old man like himself.

For sure. How many fighters in the world could have won such a clear UD over Hanshaw?
Really, I am guessing we are talking about a handful. So Roy - if he wants - is up there where it is funny again. I think we will see him be much better at this his natural weight than he has been for the last 3-4 years.
